Mobile phone insurance company markets Sharia-compliant policy as "ethical" insurance for all consumers

"The company claims that the policy will appeal to ethically aware consumers, not just upwardly-mobile European Muslims."

This could be seen as rather insulting to ethically-minded non-Muslims who have previously never been offered such a product. The good news: The insult will be met with nary an effigy burning.

Eurabia Alert. "Mobile phone insurance to comply with Sharia law arrives," by Tony Dennis for The Inquirer:

HOT ON the heels of the Archbishop of Canterbury's remarks about Sharia law becoming more prevalent in the UK, Foneshield is launching what it claims is the first Sharia compliant mobile phone insurance policy.

Well, we know health insurance can be a dicey proposition under Sharia. Could mobile phone insurance be a sort of "gambling" as well? Once you start slipping down the Sharia slope, you don't know where you might end up.

The company claims that the policy will appeal to ethically aware consumers, not just upwardly-mobile European Muslims.
It introduced this new insurance product following research that showed 58 per cent of respondents were willing to opt for an ethical insurance policy.
Ethical compliance will cover the investment, participation and processes of the insurance cover. It will be sold directly online and through selected mobile phone dealers.
Foneshield also has a very interesting policy aimed at mobile phone dealers called Cashield. It's designed to protect them against problems arising from offering customers mobile phone cashbacks.
That's good news considering the significant numbers of mobile phone dealers who go bust before paying the cashbacks they owe to existing customers.
The INQ is not quite sure how the company can do it, but if you take out a mobile phone insurance policy with Foneshield and don't make a claim after 18 months, then the cover is free.

How exactly would a mobile phone insurance company be Shariah compliant? Of course, I don't know how it works in Europe, and haven't heard of phone insurance here - we lose a phone, we just claim a lost phone and get a new one - either a free model, or something less cheap.

Not to mention - how exactly are the current insurance policies of Foneshield 'unethical'?

Just what the hell is an "ethical insurance policy" anyway?

Sounds like nothing more than a marketing ploy. Use a few Islamic buzz words, show an young, attractive, smiling woman wearing a hijab in the advertising, and voila, you've got something Muslims will buy. Simple Marketing 101.

Naturally, though, any well informed infidel should consider a company that attempts to comply with Sharia based requirements in the Dar-al-Harb to be "unethical", and withdraw their custom immediately.

I think it means if you or a loved one uses the "insured" phone to detonate themselves or any other explosive device the phone will be replaced no questions asked!!!!

I long for the days when companies were just trying to get ISO 9001 certified.

I guess Sharia compliancy is the new ISO 9001...

Cheers

"Find the pea, infidel. Is it under this shell, or this shell, or maybe even this shell?"

Silly dhimmis, I palmed it and it is NOT under any shell! Islamic finance wins, infidels lose.

Good point, and I think many people will instinctively understand this and act accordingly. Boycotting Sharia-connected products will, of course, be deemed discrimination by the PC crowd and "ways will be sought" to make it an actionable offense. Sigh....

Any ethics-mulling Muslims would suffer such severe cognitive dissonance that blood would shoot out of their eyes.

But that would require they be capable of cognition and critical thinking, in the first place.

May I suggest a new name for the company?

"Mo Bell".

Oh my you are all in rare form today! I love it!

I lose cell phones regularly, (hence I will not purchase a wireless mouse) but as they are so cheap why ever would one purchase insurance? Even the cheapies are textable, etc.

Oopps. How did I post that twice? My apologies!

Happens all the time.

Happens all the time.

Exactly! Well summarized.

I had insurance on my Sprint plan.. $7 a month. When my phone was stolen and calls made on it the Domincan Republic, they took hours to pick up on their 800# so I was unable to cancel service until the next day.

I had to go to an office to cancel since they never picked up.

To get a new pgone they gave me a number for an "insurance company" who also never picked up.

Finally I looked up Sprint's corporate office and called them in Virginia.

I demanded to be let out of my "contract" so they ended up taking the calls off my bill which they should have never been on if I'd been able to contact them to cancel in the first place.

They also gave me a new phone since I told them can't stay on hold for hours on end just to replace a stolen phone.

In my experience insurance companies are ripoffs to begin with so I'd caution anyone against getting phone insurance.

It's beyond ridiculous.. that's why these scam artists understand the islamic mentality no doubt..
