And from all of us at Jihad Watch to Sami Al-Arian: We hope you had a very, very happy anniversary. In Human Events today I discuss the ongoing case of the Rumpled Academic:
Monday marked the fifth anniversary of the imprisonment of Sami Al-Arian, the notorious Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader who operated for years out of the University of South Florida, where he taught computer science. The Leftist LinkTV (“Television Without Borders”) celebrated the day with the premiere of USA vs AL-ARIAN, a hagiographical documentary about the jailed jihadist, who is currently on a hunger strike after refusing to testify to a grand jury about the activities of Islamic charities and other organizations in Virginia.LinkTV works hard to portray Al-Arian as a martyr, saying: “Al-Arian, who is diabetic, is on a hunger strike in protest of his continued imprisonment beyond his scheduled release date, despite being acquitted in a jury trial. His health is deteriorating rapidly, as his food and water strike nears the one-month mark.”
Acquitted in a jury trial? Then why is he in prison? Because Al-Arian, LinkTV later reports, “…pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy in aiding Palestinian Islamic Jihad associates in nonviolent ways in return for receiving the minimum prison sentence, including time served, and to be deported from the country upon his release.” And even that is hiding what Al-Arian did.
In reality, Al-Arian pleaded guilty to a charge of “conspiracy to make or receive contributions of funds to or for the benefit of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a Specially Designated Terrorist” organization. If PIJ is a terrorist group, then “non-violent” aid to it is comparable to contributions to Nazi charitable organizations (and yes, they did have them). Al-Arian was aiding a jihad terrorist group, period. And his plea agreement leaves no room for doubt: “Defendant is pleading guilty because defendant is in fact guilty. The defendant certifies that the defendant does hereby admit that the facts set forth [in the plea agreement] are true, and were this case to go to trial, the United States would be able to prove those specific facts and others beyond a reasonable doubt.” What’s more, Al-Arian acknowledged that he was “pleading guilty freely and voluntarily…and without threats, force, intimidation, or coercion of any kind.”As far as LinkTV is concerned, the hounding of this good man is all part of the persecution of Muslims in the post-9/11 Amerikkkan police state, you see: “USA vs AL-ARIAN is the personal story of the Al-Arian family, who like many Muslims in the U.S. today, are navigating the new laws and political climate of post-9/11 America.”
But it was Al-Arian who worked hard to create a climate of intimidation and violence. He stood by approvingly at one Islamic conference while former Cleveland Imam Fawaz Damra (himself now also deported) tried to raise money for Islamic Jihad by saying: “Donate to the Islamic Jihad. Nidal Zalooum from the Islamic Jihad held a dagger and stabbed four of the Jews in the courtyard of Al-Haram Al-Qudsi….One of them would leave his house with a knife to stab the Jews -- twelve Jews -- after the events of the Gulf War. Brothers, the Intifadah calls you. Five hundred dollars! Who would add to five hundred dollars?”
Al-Arian and Damra operated for years within the United States while enjoying reputations as moderates. Damra was one of the signers of the 2005 fatwa condemning terrorism issued by the Fiqh Council of North America under the auspices of the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim Public Affairs Council. Damra’s name among the signatories lends credence to the view that this fatwa, despite the enthusiastic praise it has received from the mainstream media, is in fact another exercise in the deception that Damra and Al-Arian so skillfully practiced in America for so long, while continuing behind closed doors to support jihad terror.
Another video that was shown publicly for the first time at his trial depicts Al-Arian, the mild-mannered computer science professor, exhorting his Muslim audience to “adopt the choice of jihad.” And of course, most notoriously, Al-Arian has said: “Let us damn America, let us damn Israel, let us damn them and their allies until death.”
Al-Arian’s guilty plea and future deportation thus constitute a significant setback for the subversive, stealth jihad that the mujahedin have been waging in the West, largely (but not solely) by financing jihad activities elsewhere in the world under religious and academic cover.
That LinkTV would mark the fifth anniversary of his imprisonment by trying to portray him as a Muslim Gandhi, railroaded by a racist U.S. government avid for terror convictions, is unconscionable. LinkTV plays into the hands of those friends of Sami Al-Arian who would destroy LinkTV along with the rest of the embattled civilizational outposts of the confused and squabbling West.
LinkTV is the epitomy of hand-wringing liberal guilt.
Everyone should watch it, it's hilarious.

Robert,
For whatever good it will accomplish, I visited Link TV and used the "Contact Us" form to provide those benighted folks with a link to your Human Events article: "A Jailed Jihadist’s Unhappy Anniversary." One can hope that reading your article will inspire in them a radical reassessment of Islamic "reality," but I'm not holding my breath.
This seems very similar to the joke "How do you tell if a lawyer is lying...His lips are moving". Make any association you deem appropriate.
Great comment Robert.
Tell the truth and scare the beghesus out of these hate America fools.
(shades of the righteous Reverend Wright and his Marxist black liberation theology crowd - death to us)
Phony white guilt is self defeating.
Wake up. This is who Sami is.
Let me see if I got this straight - the muslims are wailing that they are victims because we hold them accountable for support of terrorism and acts of terrorism and that ruins their image so we are guilty of persecution. And nothing should be said that it is their koran, prophet, and basically 'religion' that is the root cause of the slaughters and we should shut up because... oops, I think I am losing it here. My feeble Western brain and logic is not grasping this whole concept. Heaven forbid that I go to this area since it wouldn't be politically correct - their 'religion' is NOT a religion!
His health is deteriorating rapidly, as his food and water strike nears the one-month mark.
A month without water? How does he do it?
What is LinkTV, and how can it be harmed economically? Is it something carried by Verizon, by Comcast? How can one make known to those carriers that LinkTV offers propaganda on behalf of the domestic Jihad?
Hugh--
LinkTV is a satellite channel, carried by DirecTV among others. So there's definitely some economic pressure to be applied there.
Here's the Al-Arian thing:

The home page for Linktv verified what I already knew. Link is leftwing tv produced in San Francisco and directed at those who enjoy information "without a US centrist viewpoint."
The Sami al Arian special was nauseating up until the judge finally spoke to him and told him what he was and sentenced him. Hearing that made the rest of the program worth watching.
R_not: wrt: "My feeble Western brain and logic is not grasping this whole concept."
you need to exercise your doublethink and listen to the duckspeakers at CAIR. Miniluv can help you but you must want to be helped. The bullet will enter your brain when you least expect it.
Hallmark doesn't carry cards celebrating ones 5th anniversary behind bars, so I've submitted an idea to them to honor such a milestone:
"Happy 5th Anniversary in Hell,
With Many More to Come!"
.....needs a little work....any suggestions?
For what it's worth, earlier today I used Link TV's "Contact Us" form to provide a link to Robert's Human Events article: A Jailed Jihadist’s Unhappy Anniversary
The autoresponding machine at Link TV replied as follows:
To "grow and evolve" is also to metastasize.
“Al-Arian, who is diabetic, is on a hunger strike in protest of his continued imprisonment beyond his scheduled release date, despite being acquitted in a jury trial. His health is deteriorating rapidly, as his food and water strike nears the one-month mark.”
This is, I believe, Al Arian's second "hunger strike," so why did he give up the first time?
And about him consuming no water for nearly a month, I highly doubt it. I've not heard of any instances where the human body has had the ability to sustain life without water for more than a week or so tops. Food perhaps for a few weeks, but not the water.
Figure in his diabetic condition, going without any type of food would throw his blood sugar levels into a major spin.
My heart bleeds for the diabetic and pathetic Sami. I pray that he succeeds in eliciting the sympathy and attention that every persecuted muslim victim of American bigotry so richly deserves. Muslim theatrics and arrogance are so amusing, almost entertaining. You can bet that when their arrogant, supremacist tactics fail the histrionics will follow, as if on cue. They're all superb performers.
You've been such a pain in the ass already, Sami, so why don't you spare us the medical expenses and get it over with. Don't worry about your wives and umpteen minimuslims; one of the many benevolent islamic charities will provide their every spiritual and temporal need while you revel in the ecstasies of porno paradise.
I really don't see the problem here. Jihadists, by their own admission, love death. So what's the problem with him starving himself to death? It makes a refreshing change for one to kill himself without murdering innocents in the process.
But of course his actions are aimed at the hand wringers and do gooders who will fight for his right to be freed so that he can murder their own children and families.
