Karachi, 21 May (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad) - Taliban fighters in Afghanistan claim to have killed a woman by slitting her throat after accusing her of spying for US forces in Afghanistan.They said they killed the alleged female American informer in the Afghan valley of Kunar on Monday.
"Bachagai, 32, was part of an American proxy network in the Sarkano district's village Barogai," a Taliban spokesperson Zubair Mujahid told Adnkronos International (AKI) from the Kunar valley.
"Her information caused a lot of American attacks on the position of the mujahadeen, their killings and arrests," said Mujahid.
"We throughly investigated the matter and confirmed her links with Afghan intelligence and American troops. She also received cash rewards on the information she provided against the Taliban," he said.
Mujahid told AKI that once all the evidence against the alleged spy was gathered, they slit her throat with a knife and killed her....
This is bad. If ISAF can't protect its informers, it will find the flow of intel slowing to a trickle. Kunar province has resisted attempts to smoke out the Taliban and the job will only get harder without local support.
It's good to see that the Taliban gave her due process.
They always kill somebody (sombodies usually) when they get an ass-kicking, these people are probably innocent of spying and are just used as examples to instill fear and terror into their hearts....seems that is the only Islam can thrive.

pulsar 182: ISAF intelligence are the ones who try and cultivate informers like the executed woman. This is why these executions are such a blow; without informers, there will be fewer sources of human intelligence to act on.
Killing mujahideen has never been the hard part; the Soviets proved you can massacre them and still lose the war. The real fight is in getting the locals to stop relying on Taliban aid and authority. If the local tribes' loyalties had been different, this execution might never have happened.
has anyone seen Afghan locals expressing any discontent with the Taliban? all I see is Taliban cooperation. It is hard to save anyone from evil if they do not want to be saved.
There are a variety of responses to the Taliban, as many as there are people in Afghanistan. Right now the Taliban are supplying aid and security to groups that are angry at the central government's incompetence. This leads to greater support from the populace and a harder fight for the guys on the ground.
Remember those Northern Alliance guys who helped our CIA and special operations guys knock the Taliban over in 2001? They're still out there and they don't like the foreigner fighters any more than we do. Not that they seem very fond of ISAF or the central government, either...

This is obviously a case where some poor innocent was sacrificed to protect a higher profile american informant.
As others have postulated I would guess that the Jihadi movement is riddled with informants, and that it might go pretty high up the ladder.
Others have posted on the contacts between some very important, beyond suspicion jihadis and american intelligence, the operative phrase is "beyond suspicion".
I have just finished reading the 1963 book, "The fall of the dynasties", which is about ww1 and the mechanical aspects of those events which led to the fall of the austian hungarian, the germanic, and the russian empires.
During those days the various empires intelligence agencies had assets within the various nationalist movements, and in many instances ennabled some of those movements to protect their assets.
A big misstake, the best thing that could be done by the west would be to cut those worthless assets loose, along with a detailed account of how they were used and what they offered.
Remember, Islam prohibits killing 'innocent civilians'.
Obviously, she was not an innocent civilian; she was a guilty civilian, as determined by grizzled old village elders (most of whom never got past the third grade).

Most probably she was gang-raped before she was beheaded. This was the treatment given to Infidel women throughout the history of jihad. Some were taken as sex-slaves, but most were raped and beheaded.

Islam is where excuses are available for any criminal thing to do. No doubt, islamic countries are some of the violent in the world.
I agree with arjun. There was surely some kind of Taliban circle jerk going on as this woman was murdered. They're all bisexual so this must have been a real treat for them.
Killing the informant is pretty standard. Even American gangs will kill a 'snitch'. I know of one such instance locally where two very bad bikers murder/tortured a snitch in ways that rival the worst muslim atrocity. It's risky business to be an informant, and even worse if one is not a snitch but is accused. The Taliban probably go a lot on pure suspicion, Allah did not relieve them of paranoia.
A group of mean spirited, religious fanatics, woman deprived, angry, frustrated, enraged and well armed,
is a force you don't want to meet in a dark alley, or have accuse you of being a snitch. Especially if you are a woman...I bet these animals had fun at her expense...
