Adding to Major General Hammond's abject apology from Saturday, Bush apologizes, although apparently without using the word "apology." Whatever that means.
"Bush calls Iraqi leader about soldier's Quran desecration," from CNN, May 20 (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- President Bush has apologized to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for an American soldier shooting at a Quran, the prime minister's office said.President Bush called Nuri al-Maliki over the incident, al-Maliki's office says. The leaders are seen in September.
Bush made the call to al-Maliki on Tuesday morning, the office said.
But National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the president stopped short of using the word "apology" in his remarks. [...]
On Monday, the Iraqi Islamic Party, the movement of Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, condemned what it said was a "blatant assault on the sanctities of Muslims all over the world."
The party said it reacted to the news "with deep resentment and indignation" and wants the "severest of punishments" for the action.
"What truly concerns us is the repetition of these crimes that have happened in the past when mosques were destroyed and pages of the holy Quran were torn and used for disgraceful acts by U.S. soldiers," al-Hashimi said.
"I have asked that first this apology be officially documented; second a guarantee from the U.S. military to inflict the maximum possible punishment on this soldier so it would be a deterrent for the rest of the soldiers in the future."
Kill him?
Wasn't this the time to tell people that the US has no official religion and the people even soldiers have freedom of speech.
It is perfectly legal to desecrate the US flag, though I cannot imagine any US soldier doing that. It is perfectly legal to desecrate a religious book, as long as you aren't stealing the copy you desecrate.
Do they expect us to hand him over to a shiria court and have him killed? oh stupid me yes they do......I hope that this puppet government of ours wakes up and realizes what they are dealing with..... okay he was stupid to leave any evidence behind.......but to allow him to face a kangaroo court is just insanity.....what will they do strip him of rank/pay/maybe jail time? I do believe it was better to shoot a book than the nasty imam down the road that was spewing hate...
No apology necessary. Bush needs to quit groveling altogether as he recently did after begging the Saudi’s to increase oil production. Have a spine for once – we need leaders not kitchen knaves!!
anyone for making that special shoot the koran day a national holiday where we all do it? I am all for it.
l did not realize what a bunch of softies these muslims are, you would never know from the murderous actions. Muslims can kill, torture people but dont ever slap that koran around. lets have a slap the koran day perhaps this weekend would be a great start!
I like this part from the CNN story above...
"However, al-Maliki's office said Bush issued an apology on behalf of the United States and "promised to present the soldier to the courts." The office said Bush apologized in a call to al-Maliki on Tuesday morning."
"To the courts"? I don't like that language....
Of all the stories I have read the past two years, and doing my best to discount the cumulative effect such readings have registered (is this even possible?) on my psyche, I do believe that this is the most disheartening, disgusting act of moral cowardice on the part of our military leadership we as a people have experienced to date. This act of dhimmitude by the President shows nothing but weakness and perversion. The picture of Malaki and Bush shown here tells the whole story. It is this sort of bumbling apologetics that can not and should not even pass muster as a low-grade American version of political taqiyya. In fact, it is this breed of treachery and deceit passing as "concern" that gives aid and solace to the enemy, who recognize the weakness for what it is and celebrate the perversion for what it's not.
Aiy yai yai!
Do Islamic countries at least offer a apology when Christian Missionaries are murdered by Muslims? Which is light years ahead in seriousness than shooting a book.
Where is Bush when this happens??? His pseudo Christianity is all too easy to see when he grovels in PC convictions to appease Muslims while Christians are slaughtered.
Tricky trivia question: When was the last time a western leader wanted vengence for a bible trashed by a muslim (actually mountains of bibles would have been trashed by now, but anyway...) and as a result demanded forgiveness from the leader of a muslim country and when was the last time a muslim leader gave it? Hmm, hard one that un. Let me think for days or even years on it before I can work it out. Reciprocity. Hmmm...let me look that up in the dictionary too. Hard hard hard!
"an apology on behalf of the United States"
Don't apologize for me. How presumptuous.
Bush is loosing his marbles. This behavior from him is a disgrace. He should resign immediately.
Some muslim group (CAIR) is passing out free Qurans.
This gives a lot of opportunities for a 'Shoot The Quran Day', an American tradition. Or massive bon fires.

I have been suspicious of Bush's 'Christianity' for a long time. I have a strong suspicion that it is actually something else...

-from the article
And when Muslims have as much respect for the "sanctities of Christians (and Jews and Hindus, etc.) all over the world", such as in the Church of the Nativity or in Saudi Arabia, they might see that respect returned. For now guys, you get what you give.
(Not a Christian sentiment I grant you but then I'm not perfect. Never pretended to be.)
Only three and a half years for Afghan Assassin who stabbed Frankfurt Rabbi

PMK, don't forget that Jesus turned over the tables of the Moneylenders, and chased them out of the Temple. And not in a nice way. He gave 'em what they deserved.
When someone admonishes you that "fighting back" isn't Christlike, remember that example. Jesus isn't a wimp, and neither am I, and I refuse to be paralyzed by "turn the other cheek." Especially concerning Mohammedans.
"inflict the maximum possible punishment on this soldier"
!@#$%?!@#$%?!@#$!@?
Is he smoking something?
So, it wasn't enough a US General groveled, begging for forgiveness.
It wasn't enough that a military official actually KISSED a quran as a show of remorse (Imagine the outcry if a military official publicly kissed a Bible!).
Now the President of the United States, the most powerful man on earth, grovels to islam?
How disgusting.
My letter to Dubya, which I'm sending today ...
Dear President Bush:
I am writing to you today in regard to the soldier who used a Qur’an as target practice in Iraq. Per your conversation with Iraqi officials, you promised to “present the soldier to the courts.”
My question, Sir, is: To which “courts” will you be presenting this American soldier?
Provided that he did not steal the Qur’an in question, he (as an American citizen) should be allowed to do whatever he wishes with his own private property. From what I’ve gathered from news reports, I can find no criminal offense committed toward the government of Iraq, nor to any of its citizens because of this soldier’s actions.
Simply put, it is not a crime to be offended. And because Iraq is supposedly attempting to be a democracy, it would be unfair to “present the soldier” to Shari’a (religious) courts, as he would most definitely be executed for this “crime,” which harmed precisely no one.
Given the fact that the Qur’an specifically commands adherents to harm and/or kill not only this soldier, but every American soldier in Iraq, it was a travesty for General Hammond to not only kiss a copy of it, but also to apologize to the Iraqi people, who were never victims of anything. In fact, it showed the Iraqi people that the leaders of our great US Army had been “subdued,” as per Qur’an 9:29.
It would be an even greater travesty, Sir, if you turned this or any American soldier over to thugs who murder, rape and steal in the name of religion (Islam), and who honor the pedophile who wrote the predecessor of ‘Mein Kampf’ (Mohammed).
[As your advisors have probably told you, ‘jihad’ and ‘kampf’ both mean ‘struggle.’ Or perhaps they haven’t, since Secretary of State Rice recently banned the usage of the word ‘jihad’ by intelligence agencies.]
I trust that you will do the right thing.
Sincerely,
All right, let's have some apologies from, and punishment inflicted upon, the muslims who desecrated the Church of the Nativity (previously noted by PMK), who damaged Christian churches in Iraq and Kosovo, who destroyed the Bamiyan Buddhas, etc.
Weren't there instances of Allied soldiers using Mein Kampf for target practice in occupied Germany?
Can you imagine General Patton being forced to kiss "Mein Kampf" during an apology ceremony in occupied Germany?
Would Truman apologize to Hirohito if an Allied soldier shot up The Kojiki?
This is absurdity on stilts.
Our soldiers instinctivly know who and what our enemy is, and are frustrated by the idiocy that is our Whitehouse, and Pentagon in relation to all the P.C. talk around Islam. Seems to me this soldier knows how to treat the Koran perfectly well. Did any of you catch (think it was Patreaus) kissing that Koran and handing it back to Iraqi officials? That made me cringe.
Hotspur, I got one at Goodwill on Saturday for $2.99.
The "palestian" muslims who stormed the Church of the Nativity, tore pages out of the Holy Bible, and used them to wipe their filthy asses would like to express their sincere regrets, too. I'm pretty sure.
Kissing the Quran is an expression of love, or a lie.
Guards at Gitmo have to wear gloves to handle the Quran, so dirty, filth kuffaars are not supposed to touch it. But military officers who are killing muslims may kiss it? And muslims go for this?
That's a great letter Lori, mind if I copy it?
Does the US feel itself submitted to islam?
It's leaders have submitted themselves to islam (and by proxy, the American people whom they represent) and have elevated islam to a status of superiority.
Thus, shariah is by incremental degrees creeping into the US mindset and will eventually supplant the laws of the US.
It is not too far of a stretch to envision the future of the US as being like that of Afghanistan just after the Russians left and the taliban took power.
"You there! Where is your white hat? Why is your beard not grown? Why isn't your face covered?"
Sun Tzu "The Art of War"
"Laying Plans
3 The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations, when seeking to determine the conditions in the field.
4 These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth: (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.
5,6 THE MORAL LAW causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger."
Do you feel El President Heir Bush is in accord with the American People? Is he even in accord with the constitution? When he is clearly violating the first amendment and placing one religion above all other.
I say he is slowly creeping for his self-declared position of Theocrat in Chief to show us what he really is… A Saudi Arabian purchased Saboteur in Chief.
Under no circumstances, should we, the American People, permit or accept that this soldier be returned to Iraq for any inquiry or trial.
Some of our "leaders" need to be told in no uncertain terms, by whatever means necessary:
Every legal instrument, and every form of civil disobedience, should be utilized to forbid such transfer.
This kind of abject apology just plays into the arrogant mindset of the Muslim hordes that consider themselves the rightful rulers of the world. They know they don’t rule the world yet but at least they demand and get dhimmi obsequiousness at every imagined offence. This just makes the West look weak and unworthy of respect and confirms their imagined superiority. Why can’t our military & political leaders act like proud people with backbone? Bush just shames all Americans with such behavior - and all over a 7th century con man's fabrication!

I bet they found a muslim U.S. soldier for that duty. It, no doubt, would have brought more outrage from the Iraqis if a 'filthy kuffar' touch it with lips.
Unless that kissing was an act of humility and ultimate dhimmitude... then it probably would have been accepted as a small victory.
I am planning to fire a frozen bratwurst through a cheap (so to speak) koran, quran, qu'ran, q'uran, qura'n etc, etc using an ultra-high pressure pneumatic cannon. Perhaps, I could fire a brat through several of them lined up behind one another - all at once.
I will enter a photograph of this work in art shows throughout the west. Along the lines of "Piss Christ", I could call the work, "Bratwurst Mohammed".
muslims Will go bananas.
