Almost seven years have passed since 9/11, and we're hearing the same thing from our leaders that we've heard since 9/12. It is a reminder that, at the highest level of government, policy decisions are driven -- hijacked, if you will -- by willful blindness to the roots of the ideology that motivates not only al-Qaeda, but is also common to Hizballah, Hamas, and other jihadist groups. Does anyone at the State Department, Homeland Security, or elsewhere, ever puzzle at how ingrained and widespread jihadist activity is, even outside of the Wahhabi sphere of influence, if it's supposedly all just a big misunderstanding and "hijacking" of an otherwise peaceful belief system?
"'Islam has been hijacked by ideologues'," from the Associated Press, May 29:
US Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff said Thursday that progress is being made in the war on terror but it is being sabotaged by critics of American foreign policy in the West.
Chertoff was speaking at a security conference in Jerusalem with counterparts from around the world, aimed at sharing information and techniques to fight terrorism.
He said that the US was making inroads in the "battle for hearts and minds" in the Muslim world, but that the effort was being undermined by "sources of cynicism in our society that cannot distinguish between our actions and the actions of terrorists, that treat everything as equivalent, that view appeasement as the best course of dealing with the enemy."
He said Muslim communities "have seen their religion hijacked by a group of ideologues." But he noted that there was a new trend of Muslim clerics in the Middle East and the US that have begun to speak out, preaching that "the ideology of bin Laden and others is at odds with what Islam is about," he said.
Specific examples of such clerics would be nice, of course, especially if they denounce something more substantive than the usual, vague terms like "terrorism," "extremism," and the killing of "innocents."
"Captain Clueless" makes another public statement.
Move along, sheeple.
Chertoff has been hijacked by space aliens.
Chertoff's brain's been hijacked, what a fool, talking out of his ass when we need the truth more than ever.
Probably illegal space aliens.
:-)
Actually, he looks alien.
I ask again: What have MUSLIMS done to win OUR hearts and minds?
We're in big trouble in this country, but if we think it's bad now, think of what an Obama presidency will be like.
Rome might has fallen for any number of reasons, but we'll fall from shear stupidity.
How did all this greatness fall into the hands of people like Chertoff?
Who would hijack the religion of hijackers?
Why is such a dumb guy in such a responsible position?
Here's my latest Pigman piece, Taking the War into his Own Hands
Islam is very easily hijacked.
Someone send this limpwrist a copy of the UNHOLY Kakaraaan..
Actually, Mr. Chertoff, the Bin Laden-style terroristic jihadists have simply returned Islam to its original imperialistic course.
The direction decreed by the joyless Koran.
The one begun by that Dark Age hijacker and distorter of more sublime and loving Judeo-Christian theology, the warlord Mohammad.
Islam was drifting for centuries, after being humbled by the more advanced infidel world, and the Wahhabist / Al Qaeda crew just turned off the aimless autopilot of Ummah confusion and simply steered the Juggernaut of intolerant Islam back toward the theocratic global gulag it was originally aiming at.
You cannot hijack a kamikaze.
..Sometimes.. more often than not.. Robert, your picks are simply nothing less than ***ABSOLUTELY****BRILLIANT***.
Thank you and Hugh for keeping it REAL.
I recall a decade ago when an earthquake devastated the Iranian city of Bam, the US was airlifting emergency supplies before the sun set.
I am trying to imagine Islamic nations - pre-hijacking of course - sending emergency supplies to a nation the people they consider infidels in the same fashion.
I know it's unfair to judge a book by its cover but looking at this Arschauf.. err. I mean Chertoffen guy.. yes you CAN judge a book by its cover.
And every time he opens its mouth he removes ALL DOUBT.
We have a kakistocracy (government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens). They run rampant in Homeland Security, State, Education, Justice, CIA & FBI, Congress...what else? How is it that the greatest nation ever has ended up in the hands of such fools? Where do we go from here? Obama or Hillary? No way. And McCain is only marginally above these two. We shall see how each of them kowtow to the Muslims for votes.
And then we have jihadist infiltrators into all the unelected offices and they are leading the kakistocrats (Chertoff, Rice, Mueller, etc.) around by the nose. We can thank Grover Norquist for this situation. We still have not gotten the red meat on the source of the new no-speakada Jihad rule.
We are in deep dudu. The vice presidential candidates for each of these people will be more important than the principal, since there is (or rather should be) a high probability that whoever is elected will be impeached for ignorance, thus putting the VP in the hot spot.
Islam has been hijacked?
A more accurate assessment is that the West has been hijacked - and that our fearless leaders as a very serious case of "Stockholm Syndrome"
"the ideology of bin Laden and others is at odds with what Islam is about," Chertoff his rocker said.
There will come a day when comments like this will be challenged, only after we've paid too high a price for having as our defenders pathetic cowards who are terrified of the truth they need to know and act on.
Islam has hijacked religion and codified criminal behavior and attributed that to their deity by example of its inventor. Islam should be treated like an organized crime syndicate.
I like "hijack the religion of hijackers" from sheik yer'mami.
What pathetic examples of leadership my country has displayed. Too stupid to be true it is almost like they seek to construct a web of fantasy rather than confront the spider who seeks to destroy us.
Yes sir a battle for the hearts and minds; you got that one right, now check this one out:
Tell you what, this adminstration won't quit! They are hell bent on forcing islam on everyone and seem to be so delusional that they believe they can mentally make islam what it is not.
The thing that should concern YOU is that the foundation is already in place at YOUR expense through YOUR tax dollars; when the NEW adminstration comes in with Obama and company -- the party will just be getting started.
Don't say you haven't been warned, because you have been!
Oh yes, one more thing:
In other words, if you try to convert people to islam you are okay; if you try to covert them to something else -- Christianity in this specific case -- you're fired!
Your tax dollars at work via the US Department of Education!
this one has the link

witness,
Regarding the WND story, wasn't the foundation laid with the various initiatives for faith-based education? Those were promoted by the GOP and aimed at Christians but now Muslims are getting into the act.
As Perry Mason would say: we opened the door.
Rome might has fallen for any number of reasons, but we'll fall from shear stupidity.

rational,
People in a democracy get the government they deserve.
But he noted that there was a new trend of Muslim clerics in the Middle East and the US that have begun to speak out, preaching that "the ideology of bin Laden and others is at odds with what Islam is about," he said.
Care to name a few?
If bin Laden and others are at odds with what Islam is about then so was its founder, the grand jihadist.
But the plane they hijacked has "Jihad Airlines" written on the side.
I believe Chertoff et al know the reality of the situation.
If Bush has had to go--hat in hand--to beg the saudis for more oil (300,000 more barrels a day) it is not helpful for members of the administration to express the truth.
It's just business.
Take a moment. Imagine the consequences of any senior member stating the truth. You think $4.00 per gallon is tough?
turn,
Gas prices will go higher no matter what Bush says to the Saudis. World population continues to increase. More people = more cars, more homes, more food, all of which require more energy. India and China are modernizing. Ditto.
Even our using the internet - all require fuel.
Do you really think that we can continue doing business as usual and still retain our freedom?
When gas prices reach $10 a gallon, what then?
Placating Muslims today won't prevent any of that.
We have a kakistocracy (government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens). They run rampant in Homeland Security, State, Education, Justice, CIA & FBI, Congress...what else? Spot on, Jimmy. At the risk of sounding gloomy, but being a strong believer in thinking about all possible scenarios and how they might play out, one might imagine about the best that one can hope for at this point is McCain gets elected and suffers an unexpected coronary on 21 January. In this case, the VP becomes the president.
Given McCain's age, this is not an entirely unrealistic scenario, so one should give some serious thought to who McCain's running mate will be. I suppose it's wishful thinking to hope he would pick someone like Tom Tancredo or Newt Gingerich. How about drafting Lou Dobbs? Maybe he'll pick a completely new face. I hope to God he isn't considering Condi Rice or any of the trogolodytes presently in Bush's administration. Going back to being gloomy again, my guess is that he will perform a cold political calculation and select a VP that will help gain support in ethnic/gender groups where he is presently weak. There will be NO consideration made about the fitness of the person for the job. And when McCain goes toes up, we'll once again have an amateur at the helm.
"He [Chertoff] said Muslim communities 'have seen their religion hijacked by a group of ideologues.' But he noted that there was a new trend of Muslim clerics in the Middle East and the US that have begun to speak out, preaching that 'the ideology of bin Laden and others is at odds with what Islam is about,' he said."
-- from the article above, reporting on Michael Chertoff's remarks in Jerusalem
At this point someone who makes such a remark shouold be required to explain, under cross-questioning, what the "ideology of Bin Laden and [unspecified] others" is, listing its main points, and carefully explaining how, in what ways -- details, please, not vaguneess -- is "at odds with what Islam is about."
And if Michael Chertoff, and others, think they can continue to get away with airy references to "what Islam is about" and not be asked to tell us exactly what they think "Islam is about" -- based on a detailed knowledge not only of the Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, but of the past 1350 years of history of Islamic conquest, or in some cases attempted conquest, and then of subsequent subjugation of many different non-Muslim populations, in vastly different lands, but where Muslim attitudes and behavior ended up demonstrating a remarkable similarity, in time and space, and the results of that behavior also, in all of these varied lands, tended to the same thing -- the diminishment and then total destruction of the non-Islamic or pre-Islamic past, including the reduction to helplessness and then, inexorably, to a diminishment leading to near-disappearance, of those once-numerous non-Muslims.
He can prate all he wants, Chertoff and Knocke and all the othersusing whatever comfortable phrases that amount to attempts to chlorofom. Some of us, and more and more of us, who are not officiously going from meeting to meeting, but actually have taken the time to study the texts, tenets, attitudes, atmospherics of Islam, will not be so easily tied down, and are going to insist on refusing to be chloroformed, insist on remaining alert and vigilantly alert, for we have, as we look around the Western world and the consequences of deferring to political and media elites as, for example, millions of Muslims settled in, and are now busily breeding within, the countries of Western Europe, become most distrustful of those who assume that we should defer to them, who behave as if their knowledge of the problem of Islam is superior to ours -- when we have every reason to believe they have it exactly wrong.
I'd say the intelligence of western leaders has been hijacked.
The government is lying to us. They know what is going on with Islam in the west. They are intelligent and smart people. I do not buy it that these people are naive and need to be educated about the situation. Reading and learning about the history of Islam and the West and the teachings of the religion will have no effect. They know what we are up against is not just a bunch of fanatics that have high-jacked a peaceful religion. They are lying when they broadcast such blatant propaganda. They are puppets whose strings are being pulled by forces not in the open. The forces are covert and insidious. We are not being protected by those in positions sworn to be our protectors. They are in their positions for their own self interests. Nothing more than that. They could not care less about our fate, no matter if that fate is disastrous.
Eastview,
Per McCain's VP pick:
One name that keeps coming up is Mitt Romney.
I can see him naming a southern senator, since many conservatives aren't yet convinced McCain is their guy. Unless that person's term in the Senate is up this year, it does no harm. If McCain loses, it's back to the Senate for both of them in January.
I'd say the intelligence of western leaders has been hijacked.

What intelligence?
From post above: Tell you what, this adminstration won't quit! They are hell bent on forcing islam on everyone and seem to be so delusional that they believe they can mentally make islam what it is not.
It certainly seems like that. There seem to be a fair number of western people in power, with this same agenda. It's almost like they are clones of each other. If we keep putting people with this
mental malady in power, it won't be long till
we all have a callused forehead.
It's very convenient for the gov to keep the enemy
undefined, it keeps Bush /Chertoff and Company, out of prison for treason...
Let me be the first to nominate Michael Chertoff AND Condoleeza Rice for Co-Dhimmi of the Year honors.
What a mindless pure Orwellian bureaucrat he is.
What a mindless pure Orwellian bureaucrat she is.
Together they are the best friend the warring Muslims have.
"The government is lying to us. They know what is going on with Islam in the west. They are intelligent and smart people. I do not buy it that these people are naive and need to be educated about the situation."
-- from a posting above
No, they are mostly dopes.
If they were not dopes, then why, ever since 1973, has the most obvious thing in the world -- putting a slow but inextorably rising tax on gasoline (and on oil) not been put, in order to make what will now be abrupt and painful transition something smoother and more manageable? And why, if Americans are so clever about one thing -- economics -- did our rulers not realize, long ago, that such a tax is in fact a way to recapture oligopolistic rents, so that the Saudis and other permanent enemies, malevolent Muslims who, however, had only oil revenues to fund the world-wide Jihad, would have taken in a few trillion dollars less, because we would have been causing the price rise ourselves, but also taking much of that rise in prices for ourselves through taxes, the revenues from which could have gone to pay for subsidies for railroads (instead the tracks have been ripped up-- try getting to Fort Sills, Oklahoma by train from Kansas City, Missouri), and for mass transit systems, and for the development of solar and wind energy, and paying for nuclear power plants), a tax on gasoline). The price of oil is now close to $140 a barrel. Long ago, we could have slowly introduced an ever-rising price, and made the necessary adjustments. But we are led mostly by those who are not capable of thinking things through.
Shall we discuss the denial of, and then utterly ineffective response to, anthropogenic global warming -- which might, by the same system of taxation mentioned above, have been slowed down and time bought to mitigate its effects?
Shall we discuss the collapse of American education into mere vocational training, or the No-Child-Left-Behind farce?
Why do you have any confidence left in those who have shown themselves, at every turn, insufficient for the tasks at hand?
Win hearts and minds?
Islam--by immutable "divine" command--renders its followers heartless toward infidels and mindless toward new information and self-criticism. Muslims must lobotomize themselves completely, or else face slaughter at the hands of fellow cult members followed by eternal hellfire from the "merciful" Allah in the hereafter. By Mohammed's evil design, implemented through incessant brainwashing of Muslims from birth, there is nothing left to win.
Pious Muslims are already the walking dead. Death is their quest. Death is their method. Death is their message. Death is their only friend. On this good Earth, they are quite incapable of constructing a civil society or maintaining one in regions they have conquered in the name of Mohammed's sock puppet Allah.
Build bridges to those Islamic hearts and minds across the globe? In the words of Omega Man (Charleton Heston):
"Build coffins. That's all you'll need."
I guess that we are still the brave led by the clueless.
In general I have concluded, that when people go to Washington as leaders and officials, they become blind, deaf and dumb. (Dumb as in stupid!)
I am happy to see that Chertoff has seen the appeasement folks for what they are however.
Yes, we will continue to hear verbage that beats around the bush; never quite naming Islam as the problem. It's not PC.
Eventually, however, some politican will wake up and find that its a campaign benefit for him to use the incorrect terms, and we will all benefit from his "brilliance".
Hi all,
Since I believe the thread of “the Nakba” [1] is already dead, allow me to make use of this entry’s comments section to rectify some misunderstandings.
[1]http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/021216.php#comments
1-Matamoros (I mean, the original one).
I apologize for “stealing” your nickname, but please know, it wasn’t intended. The typekey allowed me to choose it so I supposed no one had ever taken it yet.
As for your ridiculous and baseless calumnies.
I don’t know if you’re a religious Jew, but I suppose you heard about “motzi shem ra”. In judaism, one who spreads malicious falsehoods and outright lies is regarded as the lowest of the low, a moral leper.
If you have no proofs, refrain from accusing and smearing people.
As to the Vlaams Belang, yes I support them. But I trust them as much as I trust a rattlesnake in my bathtub. I am well aware they’re in the bottom of their hearts, a bunch of ethno-centrist fascists. And they never duped me with their sudden and newly found philo-Semitism.
But hey, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, you know.
Such political parties, would serve as a way to get rid of (or at least, lessen) the pro-arab policies of many European countries. I don’t think the Lega Nord, Haider or Fillip De Winter are good friends of the Palestinians and the Arabs. Regarding Jews, if things get ugly and Europe goes back to the climate of the “ol’ good days” (maybe once getting rid of Muslims, they’ll get bored and start fantasizing about the “Jewish lobby”, maybe who knows), we always have our God given homeland, Israel. I am myself, thinking about making aliyah in a few years.
Anyway, I am going to change my account and my nickname so to avoid any confusion.
2-Spencer,
I never meant any insult by “National-Catholicism”. I didn’t even point my finger at you.
Why would I ever buy your books, if I had something against you?
Maybe my relatively poor English, didn’t help me to express my thoughts as clearly as I would have liked.
Please read Morgaan Sinclair’s excellent entries, that’s exactly what I tried to say.
As to my “disagreement” with some of your ideas, look, you’re a person who attends many conferences and debates, and I suppose you’re well aware that even like-minded people may disagree over some things.
That’s why I said let’s agree to disagree, this is not a blog on Christianity, and starting to argue about who’s right and who’s wrong will only deviate the main issue we’re all here for, that is, Islamic Jihad.
Best wishes,
3-As for the paranoids, well I guess it’d be a waste of time to argue with you. Be free to theorize my supposed real identity and real agenda, that won’t affect the reality.
Just one thing, we’re rational individuals and not a flock of sheep. If someone says something “unorthodox”, it’s should be discussed politely. Vulgar Ad-hominem attacks and name-callings only prove the besotted fatuity and impetuous zeal of the one who make them.
Best wishes,
New World Man (Rush) lyrics by Neil Peart, music by Geddy Lee/Alex Lifeson
He's a rebel and a runner
He's a signal turning green
He's a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine
He's got a problem with his poisons
But you know he'll find a cure
He's cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure
Learning to match the beat of the old world man
Learning to catch the heat of the third world man
He's got to make his own mistakes
And learn to mend the mess he makes
He's old enough to know whats right
But young enough not to choose it
He's noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it
He's a new world man
He's a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
He's a writer and arranger
And a young boy bearing arms
He's got a problem with his power
With weapons on patrol
He's got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control
Trying to save the day for the old world man
Trying to pave the way for the third world man
He's not concerned with yesterday
He knows constant change is here today
He's noble enough to know whats right
But weak enough not to choose it
He's wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it
Hes a new world man
"US Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff said Thursday that progress is being made in the war on terror but it is being sabotaged by critics of American foreign policy in the West."
Our nation's progress in the War That Cannot Be Named is being sabotaged by critics. Hello--Critics speak and write. That's what critics do. They make their views known.
I'm trying, really, really hard to see how the words of critics are sabotaging poor Mr. Chertoff's efforts, and those of Homeland Security, but my nose is starting to bleed, with the effort, and I'm going to have to stop before my ears begin to bleed as well.
This is excuse-making for failure to perform.
It sounds very much like the excuse-making for murderous rioters, against those who "insult Islam", "insult Mohammed, or "insult Allah". Oh, and "insult the Qur'an". I won't even go into the "humiliation" cycle, as it is the same.
Poor, sensitive Mr. Chertoff--having to face bullies armed with words. I could cry.
"US Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff said Thursday that progress is being made in the war on terror but it is being sabotaged by critics of American foreign policy in the West."
-- from the article above
"Critics of American foreign policy in the West"?
Which ones? Noam Chomsky? Ward Churchill?
Or did he mean to include the most telling and deadly criticisms of all, the ones that are unanswerable, the ones that have been posted, for a long time, at this website?
By the way, why is Chertoff focussing so much on the things that are happening abroad, when he is supposed to be paying attention to the dangers posed by enemies here, at home?
Oh, do I sound like a critic? Sorry Mr. Chertoff.
Just another story that had my eyes rolling yet AGAIN. I just don't understand why these people don't get it. I'm hoping that they come out with this stuff because they feel the need to justify their positions, and that behind the scenes there are people with common sense working hard. I think that might be a pipe dream tho.
;o(
We get the government we deserve but look at the choices we are forced to make at the polls -- clinton, obama, mccain; the only differences are few.
This is exactly my point; and it keeps getting better:
Humiliating? But it is not "humiliating" to force islam on other people??
Nope, these morons in power just don't quit!
Actually, Islam hasn't been "hijacked" enough. Dr. Foroud Fouladvand tried. And now they are about to execute him for being outspoken.
Islam NEEDS TO BE HIJACKED by true peace lovers.
It's not just his myopia regarding Islam...Chertoff seems absolutely lackadaisical about the southern border. Yea, security there is better than in years, but it's still plenty porous. You'd think it would be his #1 priority.
PS - Robert's latest at FPM deconstructs the media's whitewashing of Jihad in Thailand. It's a frigg'n crime that he can't be read in the MSM.
witness, duh_swami et el,
Have to say this....
Americans made back-to-back mistakes:
- Not impeach Bush for aiding and abbeting illegal aliens, obstruction of congressional inquiry, shielding prime perpetrators of 9/11, Saudi Arabia.
- Not supporting patriot congressman Tom Tancredo, R-CO.
Well, national-level blunders exact a heavy price.

The failures of solving the problems of energy, education, immigration, and all the other problems that keep being passed on down the line to succeeding politicians. The politicians and their bureaucrats have not solved these problems. The common theme is to maintain the status quo. It is not that they are not aware of the problems. This is an open society. All problems are open and exposed for everyone to see. So it is not due to ignorance that solutions are not implemented. The government apparatus is controlled by covert interests to keep things as they are. Maybe make a few cosmetic changes on the periphery which have no significantly beneficial consequences. I do not believe anything out of the mouths of these people. They do not speak the truth. They do not tell us what is really going on. They can't because they do not really control the ship. They are mannequins. Power and control reside somewhere else.
The only person who actually had any success in hijacking Islam was Kemal Ataturk back in the 1920s, in his pursuit of making Turkey more secular. And the way Turkey is going now, how much longer will Kemalism last?
I will not give those in charge the benefit of the doubt by calling them dopes. That is too kind. Dopes is too innocent a term to describe them. They are worse than dopes.
I wish also that we could get rid of using the term "political correctness". It has outlived its usefulness. It has become the same as "the war on terror". Meaningless!!. And the other side uses it in an equivocating way. We need a better term or adjective to replace "politically correct". And it should be less polite and more accurately descriptive. I hope it happens soon because the term is getting misused.
From Marco Polo's Diary (The Travels of Marco Polo, pp57-58 Peguin Books written in the 1200's):
"The Muslims in Persia are wicked and treacherous. The law which their prophet Mohamet[Muhammad] has given them lays down that any harm they may do to one who does not accept their law, and any appropriation of his goods, is no sin at all.. And if they suffer death at the hands of Christians, they are accounted martyrs. For this reason they would be great wrongdoers, if it were not for the government. And all the other Muslims in the world act on the same principle. When they are on the point of death up comes their priest[Mullah] and asks whether they believe that Mahomet was the true messenger of God; if they answer "Yes" then he tells them that they are saved."
--------------------------------------
By Sir Winston Churchill, from The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899).
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities - but the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, **Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith**. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome."
----------
John Quincy Adams 6th President of the USA writing on Islam in 1830(fyi..the caps appear in his original writing):
"In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar [i.e., Muhammad], the Egyptian, [.....] Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST.- TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.... Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant ... While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men."

We didn't have bases in Saudi Arabia when the "Algerine" pirates sailed into the Atlantic to capture our sailors and torture them in the late 1700s to 1830. As a matter of fact, the Islamists were very straightforward as to why they were attacking us for the 30 years of the Barbary war (s).
It was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged the Muslim’s authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and make slaves of all the could take as prisoners, and that every mussulman who be slain in the battle was sure to go to paradise"
-Abd-al-Rahman March 1785 London, England
During a meeting to discuss the fate of American captives in Barbary to Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.

....common sense has also been hijacked....
I assure you Bush and company the only "Battle for hearts and minds" was lost 1400 years ago. Now it is only being fought in your own (suprisingly dense) skulls. Yes and I mean alarm, and suprise ... like the kind the IAEA is having over the recent discovery of these documents http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3549692,00.html. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't left wing influences in the Pentagon just claim that Iran wasn't in the buisness of weaponizing fissionable materials?
PMK,
Mitt Romney would make an excellent VP choice for McCain. Besides possessing a brain, he seems to understand, better than other aspirants for the job, what Islam is all about.
Witness:
This is my favorite quote of the article:
"Indications are this was an isolated incident — an individual Marine acting on his own accord passing out coins," Hughes said in an e-mailed statement. The issue was first reported by McClatchy Newspapers.
Yeaaaaa----He had a coin making machine in his tent & happened to know Arabic!!!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/30/ap/national/main4137681.shtml
Muhummed has told authorities he believed his Muslim religion allowed him to have multiple wives.
Barfield said she married Boddie when she was 18 and that she was repeatedly beaten and threatened with death during 26 years of marriage.
Barfield was jailed for 17 months in the case and pleaded guilty to one count of child endangerment as part of a plea bargain to testify against Muhummed.
Another wife, Laura Cowan, said that he took control of her bank accounts and finances. She and other members of the family also collected public assistance. AKA as jizya.
Why oh why do "we" keep making excuses for this one "religion" that has never really stopped in its conquest for world dominion? I've never heard anyone describe any of the Crusaders of old as "hijacking" Christianity? Good luck trying to excuse away their actions of hundreds of years ago as the actions of a bunch of "ideologues."
If what he says is true, than the 'peaceful religion of Islam' was originally 'hijacked' by Muhammad.
I agree with Han_Solo's statement (and PMK's approbation of it by invoking Santayana) about Islam always being on the warpath and seeking subjugation of kuffaars whenever possible. In fact, to deny this would be indicative of either mendacity or ignorance. But, what appears to be something new among the Mohammedans is deliberate, pre-meditated suicide missions. Could anyone point to this happening in the Islamic world in centuries past or is this indeed a new development within the religion that seeks to conquer the earth? Anybody have information here? Thanks.
We get the government we deserve but look at the choices we are forced to make at the polls -- clinton, obama, mccain; the only differences are few.
Witness,
Those are just the final choices. We started with a much bigger field and winnowed it down to these three. In any event, we are the ones who created the atmosphere that allowed these three to become credible candidates. We chose the issues to vote on and we made our decisions. In past years they would have been given a polite nod and then we would have moved on to the next applicant.
Chertoff should really spend more time in the middle east , just like an ordinary citizen and experience Islam for himself.
Until you live among Muslims,it is easy to believe their nonsense of religion of peace.
Americans are by nature generous and naive.Until Washington changes its attitude of politic correctness and decides to take a firm stand against this ideology, the danger will become bigger and bigger.
God help America
Wellington,
I would think there have been planned suicide missions in almost every war. Surely many people accepted missions knowing full well they wouldn't be coming back.
I attribute the modern suicide bombers to necessity. The field of battle is changed. They can't attack lonely outposts. They've tried to start wars and each time have been put down.
The war hasn't ended and the goals haven't changed. Only the tactics are different. That is necessary in order to attack the enemy at his weakest point. In our case, it's our openness. Military battles are lost before they've begun. The suicide missions, attacking people in the street as they go about their business, are the only weapon they have left.
If we were willing to fight on their level, we'd be going after the mosques, particularly the Grand Mosque.
We get the government we deserve but look at the choices we are forced to make at the polls -- clinton, obama, mccain; the only differences are few.

Tom Tancredo, R-CO has what it takes to stand up to:
- Illegal Immigrants.
- Islam.
If only Americans would have read his book: "In Mortal Danger" to understand both, the threat and the answers, Americans would not have rejected Tom so easily.
Americans would rather follow a melodious Pide-Piper (and complain) fully aware that their sell-out president/commander-in-chief is inviting a disaster, if not total destruction, of America, than choose a Churchillian leader.
A choice that will cost America, to put it mildly, dearly.
I'd also like to point out that a major reason for the volume of suicide/homicide bombings is that it gains the enemy's desired outcome - that being to increase political pressure for us to withdraw.
The enemy is fully aware that with each bombing, the left cites that as reason for us to withdraw. The left is essentially rewarding their behavior. The irony being that if we were truly unified in our resolve, then there would be less incentive for these bombings since they would yield no real benefit to them.
So Mohammad hijacked his own religion? Sure some Muslims are being nice to us in the Middle East. They need us now.
Suicide bombings also TERRORIZE since nobody knows when it's coming. Cool Ghoul is right, they reach the desired outcome.
Someone tried to suggest that these fools in power know what's going on but pretend they don't, somehow forgetting that these are politicians. We can never underestimate the lengths they'll go to in order to evade reality, opting to believe in a more likeable version of things. It is their denial of things as they are which has encouraged this weak enemy to believe they can defeat us. That our politicians are the most protected among us only adds to their continuing to believe as they do, at our expense. If flight 93 actually hit its target and politicians were wiped out in great numbers, this war would have been fought far harder than it has.
Alert,
Tom Tancredo rejected US. He dropped out after a NH and IA and a few other states, states that are used to getting a lot of candidates' attention, said no. He never gave the Super Tuesday states a chance. He did a Ross Perot, saying he had "publicized the issues" and then he vanished, never to be seen or heard from again.
Getting the government we deserve... seems to depend mostly on what the journalists seem to think is the government we deserve... And the get out the vote crowd, pulling in people who have no idea what the candidates stand for or who they even are sometimes.
Thank goodness for blogs.

The Obama Gaffe Machine
By JOHN FUND
May 30, 2008; Page A13
For months, Barack Obama has had the image of an incandescent, golden-tongued Wundercandidate. That image may be fraying now.
As smart and credentialed as he is, Sen. Obama is often an indifferent speaker without a teleprompter. He has large gaps in his knowledge base, and is just as likely to dig in and embrace a policy misstatement as abandon it. ABC reporter Jake Tapper calls him "a one-man gaffe machine."
Take the Auschwitz flub, where Mr. Obama erroneously claimed last weekend in New Mexico that his uncle helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp. Reporters noted Mr. Obama's revised claim, that it was his great uncle who helped liberate Buchenwald. They largely downplayed the error. Yet in another, earlier gaffe back in 2002, Mr. Obama claimed his grandfather knew U.S. troops who liberated Auschwitz and Treblinka – even though only Russian troops entered those concentration camps.
That hardly disqualifies Mr. Obama from being president. But you can bet that if Hillary Clinton had done the same thing it would have been the focus of much more attention, especially after her Bosnia sniper-fire fib. That's because gaffes are often blown up or downplayed based on whether or not they further a story line the media has attached to a politician.
When John McCain claimed, while on a trip to Iraq in March, that Sunni (as opposed to Shiite) militants in Iraq are being supported by Iran, coverage of the alleged blunder tracked Democratic attacks on his age and stamina. (In fact, Iran may well be supplying both Sunni and Shiite militants.) Dan Quayle, tagged with a reputation as a dumb blond male, never lived down his misspelling of "potatoe."
Mr. Obama, a former editor of the Harvard Law Review, has largely been given a pass for his gaffes. Many are trivial, such as his suggestion this month that America has 57 states, and his bizarre statement in a Memorial Day speech in New Mexico that America's "fallen heroes" were present and listening to him in the audience.
Some gaffes involve mangling his family history. Last year in Selma, Ala., for example, he said that his birth was inspired by events there which took place four years after he was born. While this gaffe can be chalked up to fatigue or cloudy memory, others are more substantive – such as his denial last April that it was his handwriting on a questionnaire in which, as a state senate candidate, he favored a ban on handguns. His campaign now contends that, even if it was his handwriting, this doesn't prove he read the full questionnaire.
Mr. Obama told a Portland, Ore., crowd this month that Iran doesn't "pose a serious threat to us," saying that "tiny countries" with small defense budgets aren't much to worry about. But Iran has almost one-fourth the population of the U.S. and is well on its way to developing nuclear weapons. The next day Mr. Obama had to reverse himself and declare he had "made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave."
Last week in Orlando, Fla., he said he would meet with Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chávez to discuss, among other issues, Chávez's support of the Marxist FARC guerrillas in Colombia. The next day, in Miami, he insisted any country supporting the FARC should suffer "regional isolation." Obama advisers were left explaining how this circle could be squared.
In a debate last July, Mr. Obama pledged to meet, without precondition, the leaders of Iran, North Korea, Syria and Cuba. He called President Bush's refusal to meet with them "ridiculous" and a "disgrace."
Heavily criticized, Mr. Obama dug in rather than backtrack. He's claimed, in defense of his position, that John F. Kennedy's 1961 summit with Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev in Vienna was a crucial meeting that led to the end of the Cold War.
Not quite. Kennedy himself admitted he was unprepared for Khrushchev's bullying. "He beat the hell out of me," Kennedy confided to advisers. The Soviet leader reported to his Politburo that the American president was weak. Two months later, the Berlin Wall was erected and stood for 28 years.
Reporters may now give Mr. Obama's many gaffes more notice. But don't count on them correcting an implicit bias in writing about such faux pas.
Over the years, reporters have tagged a long list of conservative public figures, from Barry Goldwater to Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, as dim and uninformed. The reputation of some of these men has improved over time. But can anyone name a leading liberal figure who has developed a similar media reputation, even though the likes of Al Gore, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have committed substantial gaffes at times? No reporter I've talked to has come up with a solid example.
It's clear some gaffes are considered more newsworthy than others. But it would behoove the media to check their premises when deciding just how much attention to pay to them. The best guideline might be: Show some restraint and judgment, but report them all.
Mr. Fund is a columnist for WSJ.com1.

PMK: Thanks for your response. Military missions which entail a realization that one is not very likely coming back do not, I believe, add up to what's going on now in the Islamic world, where there is a conscious, deliberate awareness that killing oneself amidst a civilian (and sometimes military) population will send one to Islamic heaven; you know, the 72 virgins and all that rot.
The reason why I want to nail this issue down is that when folks like you and I speak against the invidiousness which is Islamic theology and practice, we are, though unfairly I would argue, on the defensive to begin with as we propose a heretofore unheard proposition: To wit, that Islam is rotten to the core unlike any other major faith. Precisely because of this burden, we must get EVERYTHING right. One little slip will be enough to allow the uninformed listener to dismiss us. I want to avoid that and so that's why I asked what I did.
To my knowledge, direct, unambiguous suicide missions, by which civilians are murdered aplenty, are indeed a new development in the religion that is enthralled with violence for the purpose of world domination. I'm not surprised by this, since pathologies lead to even more egregious pathologies if left unchecked. That, I would aver, is exactly what has happened to that faith founded by just about the most unfortunate example in human history of someone making it to adulthood.
My best to you and yours as we continue to lead the vanguard against that which would destroy so much that we cherish, if only we let it.
Alert: I'm with PMK here. Tom Tancredo is a good guy with the right message but he is he very far from being the right messenger. Tancredo has zero chance of being elected to the highest office in the land, or even to a fairly high office where he will be heard, admired and endorsed by a large multitude. You know this or should know it. Leaders in a Churchill, Lincoln type mode, with the right message in dire times, are rare indeed. I see none on the horizon.
If our gov. protected us the way they protect themselves from the truth....
Chertoff and all the rest of them know what's going on and this is just another propaganda campaign to mislead the American people so maybe they wont' go on a wild rampage after the next islamic terror attack and start killing muslims and burning mosques. The Human Rights folks at the almighty U.N. wouldn't like that.
They can't acknowledge that they understand what islam is all about, not even among themselves. Just imagine what would happen if Mr. Chertoff made a televised speech and told the American people that islam has been a violent, supremacist, predatory death cult for almost 1400 years, that muslims brutally conquered many civilizations during islam's early years and after squandering the wealth of the superior people they conquered and subjugated, they found themselves dirt poor, isolated, illiterate, and unable to wage jihad against the West for a number of years. Then oil was discovered, they were suddenly awash in money, and they began immigrating to the West to spread their vile religion, unhindered by Western governments who felt obliged to not only give them our technology and experts to get their oil out of the ground, but also to buy it and allow our avowed enemies to become citizens of our countries. They can never be our friends or allies because their religion forbids it and it is their religious duty to wage jihad until the entire world is islamic. There are millions of muslims in America and Canada; they breed like rats and eventually there will be enough of them to create major problems, if they don't nuke us first.
That now we're at the mercy of these savages to obtain the oil we need to keep our countries running and they're calling the shots; that it is their goal to conquer the entire world for allah and either convert, subjugate, or kill those who don't cooperate. They have overrun Europe and plan to overrun North America, which will soon be one big, happy, borderless "area", accessable to all citizens of the New World Order.
__________________________________________________
How could they ever acknowledge the truth about muslims and islam without admitting that they have knowingly allowed spies, subversives, and terrorists to invade America? How could they admit that islam is a religion of perpetual war against the "other" without admitting that they have knowingly invited our enemies into our country?
How could they ever explain to the American people that multiculturalism, globalism, internationalism, diversity, and cultural Marxism are more important than their safety and security? How could they explain why they have increased muslim immigration since 9/11, importing tens of thousands of muslims from the most radicalized islamic countries? There is no rational explanation for their betrayal of the American people and they'll do anything to hide the truth to save their asses and promote their own insidious agenda.
Susanp: You may be correct about Chertoff and other government folks knowing what Islam really is about, but I think it more likely that he and his brethren really do believe there is a good Islam that exists which is not a menace to Western societies. After all, scholars of Islam like Daniel Pipes and Bernard Lewis also think of Islam as having to be rescued from extremists, the implication always being that Islam will eventually take its place in the modern world and things wil be fine.
I don't take this point of view but do think, for now, that we can align with some Muslims against others. Unlike folks like Pipes and Lewis, I see no good Islam but rather a gutted Islam that might barely be OK to work with, at least for the time being. And even here I'm doubtful. I do wonder, though, if someone like Chertoff or President Bush suspect deep within what you, I and so many who post here at JW already know about the one faith that is truly inimical to such much that the West holds dear. My best to you and yours.
"He said Muslim communities "have seen their religion hijacked by a group of ideologues." But he noted that there was a new trend of Muslim clerics in the Middle East"
Draw a cartoon of Mo, people die, islam goes mustang, and citys burn.
OBL "hijacks" islam, and the islamic world cheers, and puts his picture on buildings and tee shirts.
And what is this "new trend", if it is really new look for heads to roll, same as the old trend.
What am I getting wrong?
