Our friend D. C. Watson weighs in on Omer Subhani, the CAIR op who has been engaged in increasingly paltry and desperate attempts to “expose” my work as inaccurate.
Over the past several days, readers of Jihad Watch have been treated to yet another in a long line of representatives from the Council on American Islamic Relations who have attempted to divert attention away from the CAIR organization’s raunchy public record by targeting one of its main critics. The latest is Omer Subhani, Communications Director for CAIR-South Florida. Going into the issues that Omer Subhani attempts to raise in his exposé of Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer would be futile. Spencer certainly doesn’t need me or anyone else to defend him.
Regardless of what CAIR representatives opt to declare about him, they haven’t exactly been beating down the door demanding to step on stage and debate him. This is for good reason.
Before going further into this column, one point that should be made is that no one needs to be able to read, write, or speak Arabic to understand the troglodyte-type brutality being demonstrated as beheadings, honor killings, amputations, physical beatings, violent rioting, gang rapes of Western women, and bomb lobbing continue to be carried out by many in the Islamic world. These crimes against humanity are real, and they are being perpetrated by Muslims against both their co-religionists as well as against non-Muslims. CAIR cannot hide this fact.
After reading his extensive take on Robert Spencer, it’s apparent that Mr. Subhani possesses endurance, and can hardly be categorized as having the low level of intelligence that a couple of blatantly dishonest, slovenly CAIR supporters have shown to possess with their sophomoric screeds.
With that said, it is also apparent that the energy he has put forth on “exposing” Robert Spencer could have been utilized in an effort to clean up the unsavory organization that employs him. On his blog, Mr. Subhani stated: “I enjoy helping people and that is why I work with CAIR.”
So that’s what CAIR does? It helps people? Which people? Since he works for the Council on American Islamic Relations, Mr. Subhani by now ought to be familiar with CAIR’s “Mission Statement,” which says that “CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.”
If this were CAIR’s actual mission, the organization could be considered a complete failure. However, CAIR’s actions suggest that its true purpose was never to build coalitions or encourage dialogue. CAIR’s purpose seems, whether Mr. Subhani wants to admit it or not, to have been to creep slowly into the ears of American politicians so as to influence their views of Islamic jihad and jihadist activity in the U.S., while attempting to intimidate American companies and citizens into towing the Islamist line, or face being labeled as anti-Muslim bigots.
Time and again since CAIR’s inception in the early 1990s, the organization has been found on the wrong side of coexistence and respect for the citizens of this nation. The information to follow is not new, but can be reiterated whenever the CAIR group decides to jump back up on its pedestal — a pedestal from which it has been legitimately knocked down on many occasions.
By “helping people,” does Mr. Subhani mean participating in phone call, e-mail, and letter-writing campaigns to radio stations (and their sponsors) that employ radio talk show hosts who speak about Islam in a less than flattering manner, in attempts to force the station to either suspend or fire the host, such as was the case of Michael Graham?
By “helping people,” is Mr. Subhani speaking of the frivolous defamation lawsuits filed by CAIR against Americans who have researched the Council on American Islamic Relations’ public statements, activities, and connections, and spoken out about them, as was the case with Anti-CAIR director Andrew Whitehead?
In this particular waste of taxpayer money, as well as the court’s time, CAIR filed suit against Whitehead, objecting to several claims that Whitehead made, as Daniel Pipes explained in his column, “CAIR backs down from Anti-CAIR.” CAIR originally objected to these statements by Whitehead:
“Let their [sic] be no doubt that CAIR is a terrorist supporting front organization that is partially funded by terrorists, and that CAIR wishes nothing more than the implementation of Sharia law in America.”
CAIR is an “organization founded by Hamas supporters which seeks to overthrow Constitutional government in the United States and replace it with an Islamist theocracy using our own Constitution as protection.”
“ACAIR reminds our readers that CAIR was started by Hamas members and is supported by terrorist supporting individuals, groups and countries.”
“Why oppose CAIR? CAIR has proven links to, and was founded by, Islamic terrorists. CAIR is not in the United States to promote the civil rights of Muslims. CAIR is here to make radical Islam the dominant religion in the United States and convert our country into an Islamic theocracy along the lines of Iran. In addition, CAIR has managed, through the adroit manipulation of the popular media, to present itself as the ‘moderate’ face of Islam in the United States. CAIR succeeded to the point that the majority of its members are not aware that CAIR actively supports terrorists and terrorist supporting groups and nations. In addition, CAIR receives direct funding from Islamic terrorists supporting countries.”
“CAIR is a fundamentalist organization dedicated to the overthrow of the United States Constitution and the installation of an Islamic theocracy in America.”
As the discovery process in this case began to move forward, however, CAIR’s legal counsel amended the complaint against Whitehead to just two claims:
“Let their [sic] be no doubt that CAIR is a terrorist supporting front organization.”
CAIR “seeks to overthrow constitutional government in the United States.”
A copy of the amendment can be found here.
When all was said and done, once the bully boys at CAIR were confronted with substantial evidence contrary to their claims against Whitehead, they couldn’t run away from this lawsuit fast enough.
The words of CAIR officials are on record, and clearly serve as examples of the differences between the CAIR “Mission Statement” and the real reason for CAIR operations in America:
Ahmed Bedier, CAIR-Florida: (Here is a strategy that CAIR has hidden behind since it’s hatching): “We are to the American Muslim community what the NAACP is to blacks in America. If you attack us, you are attacking the Muslim community and the religion of Islam in this country.”
Bedier’s over-inflated self importance regarding CAIR as it relates to the Islamic community in America can be summed up by the fact that CAIR’s membership, since the 9/11 attacks, has declined by more than 90%. They do not speak for the majority of Muslims in this country, many of whom left their homelands and came here to both enjoy freedom, and to steer clear of the backward, barbaric legal system practiced in Islamic states known as Shari’ah law.
Omar Ahmad, CAIR’s co-founder: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran…should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.”
Imam Siraj Wahaj, CAIR Board member: “If only Muslims were more clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate….If we were united and strong, we’d elect our own leader and give allegiance to him.”
Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR spokesman: “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future…”
Ihsan Bagby, CAIR: “Ultimately we (Muslims) can never be full citizens of this country [the U.S.], because there is no way we can be fully committed to the institutions and ideologies of this country.”
Nihad Awad, CAIR: “I am in support of the Hamas movement.”
Is Mr. Subhani aware that:
CAIR has published flawed “anti-Muslim hate crimes” reports, which include some of these alleged crimes against Muslims actually being perpetrated by the so-called “victims” themselves?
CAIR demanded the removal of a Los Angeles billboard that dubbed Osama bin Laden “the sworn enemy,” saying that it was “offensive to Muslims”? (Offensive to Muslims, or offensive to CAIR?)
CAIR was named as a defendant in a class action lawsuit stemming from the 9/11/2001 Islamic terror attacks against the United States?
CAIR is listed by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas funding case?
CAIR officials, currently numbering fourteen, have been investigated, indicted, convicted or deported for their connections to Islamic terrorism and terrorist organizations?
This is not a complete list of CAIR’s escapades, but it should be enough to show why Mr. Subhani should give thought to using his intellect for the sake of decency instead of wasting time trying to plug holes on a ship that is destined to sink itself by way of its own deceit and arrogance. With this evidence presented, if Mr. Subhani chooses to continue his affiliation with CAIR, then the nation will know that it is by his choice to do so, not because he is in the dark about CAIR’s record.
CAIR has been trying to poke America in the ribs since the early to mid 90s. To date, it continues to whine about “injustices” being done to Muslims in the United States. CAIR should acknowledge that nearly eight years ago, Dr. Daniel Pipes reported the following information regarding Muslims in America: “American Muslims ‘boast among the highest rates of education of any group in the country (a whopping 52 percent appear to hold graduate degrees), and this translates into a pattern of prestigious and remunerative employment.’…Muslim Americans’ median household income of about $69,000 stands well above the national average.”
Have they had their degrees revoked, and been forced to take lower paying jobs? No. So much for all that hatred toward Muslims in America that CAIR continues to proclaim. Subhani, get out while you can, or stay, but if you do, you will end up on the wrong end of the final score.
