Fitzgerald: The half-wit, his nail bomb, and his Islam

Devon and Cornwall Deputy Chief Constable Tony Melville said Reilly appeared to be a "vulnerable" individual who had been "preyed upon" and "radicalised".

He said: “Our investigations so far indicate that Reilly, who has a history of mental illness, had adopted the Islamic faith.

We believe that he was preyed upon, radicalised and taken advantage of."

Reilly was arrested by police at the scene of the explosion. He suffered lacerations to his eye and some facial burning after one device exploded. -- from this story

Mohammed Rasheed, aka Nicky Reilly, is said to be a half-wit -- not a half-wit in the Garaudy or Galloway or Chomsky sense, each quite capable of low cunning, but a half-wit in the literal sense. And it is a quite plausible claim. For Muslim "activists" (fine word, activists -- its awfulness reflecting the awfulness of all "activists") are good at identifying, for the purposes of Da'wa, target populations of the economically and psychically marginal.

The explosive Mr. Reilly of Exeter turns out, unsurprisingly, to be a man with a history of mental illness, who was "preyed upon and radicalised" by Muslims.

This description fits perfectly the Dutchman Volkert van der Graaf, a demented man and "animal-rights activist" whose "concern for the most vulnerable members of society" led him to murder Pim Fortuyn -- via Muslims who probably carefully explained to him that next to of course animals it was they, Muslims, who best fit that definition, they who were most vulnerable. And they most likely told him that it was bad old Pim Fortuyn who was out to get them and wouldn't it be nice, wouldn't it be right, if some brave protector of the "most vulnerable" were to come to their aid by shooting Pim Fortuyn dead so he wouldn't any longer be able to threaten those "most vulnerable" and helpless Muslims?

And that is exactly what Volkert van der Graaf did.

There are those who continue to believe that because Volkert van der Graaf was not a declared convert to Islam, and was known as an animal-rights activist, his murder of Pim Fortuyn had nothing to do with Islam. They never seem, these people, to ask themselves two questions. First, what did the murder of Pim Fortuyn have to do with animal rights? Was Pim Fortuyn known for having taken any position on the treatment or mistreatment of animals? No, he was not.

The second question is: why did Volkert van der Graaf, then, murder Pim Fortuyn? What was it about Pim Fortuyn that he, Volkert van der Graaf, told the court was the reason for his murdering him? It is no secret. He made it clear before his trial, and at his trial, and after his trial.

From the Daily Telegraph of March 28, 2003:

A Left-wing activist confessed in court yesterday to Holland's first political assassination in 400 years, claiming that he shot Pim Fortuyn to defend Dutch Muslims from persecution. Volkert van der Graaf, 33, a vegan animal rights campaigner, said he alone was responsible for killing the maverick protest leader last May, days before a general election in which the Fortuyn List party vaulted into second place and shattered Holland's consensus.

Facing a raucous court on the first day of his murder trial, he said his goal was to stop Mr Fortuyn exploiting Muslims as 'scapegoats' and targeting 'the weak parts of society to score points" to try to gain political power. He said: "I confess to the shooting. He was an ever growing danger who would affect many people in society. I saw it as a danger. I hoped that I could solve it myself."

Possibly van der Graaf arrived at this conclusion on his own. More likely, I think, is that Muslims used him as a weapon, a human guided missile that they could exploit and direct through the power of mental suggestion.

But it doesn't matter. It was a killing for Muslims, on behalf of Muslims, for a Muslim cause, by a non-Muslim sympathizer, of a man known for his anti-Muslim views.

Surely that is enough to connect it to the case of Mr. Reilly, in Exeter, a half-wit whom more cunning Muslims, demented in a different way, were willing to exploit by putting thoughts into his head -- which thoughts led to his little bomb, and little explosion. That explosion hurt, in this case, only him. But there are other half-wits, for Islam preys in the West not only on the economically marginal but on the psychically marginal as well. They are given a Total System that justifies them in their resentments. It organizes that resentment, often taken out in criminal activity, so that it all makes sense within the framework of Islam, as justified hatred of Infidels. Criminal behavior is reinterpreted, so that stealing from Infidels becomes justified as proleptic Jizyah, and rape of Infidel women -- see those imams in Norway, explaining this so solemnly -- is deserved, because of the way they dress, which means, of course, that they are, civilizationally, asking for it.

No, in this case there was what the Israelis dryly call a “work accident.” But what about next time, with the next half-wit?

I think that a lot of the anti-Western, pro-Islamic sympathies displayed by many in academia trace back to Hugh's accurate diagnosis of the "psychically marginal" as being prone to such sentiments. In this case, it is an alienated and resentful bunch of self-styled elitists.
My daughter is in college suffering through the indoctrination. I had her watch a few MEMRI videos on youtube as a quick and effective antidote when she was home.

That explosion hurt, in this case, only him.

The fact that he hurt only himself will serve to mitigate his act, in the courts of law and public opinion. Instead of being seen as part of a trend, he will become yet another "loner" totally unconnected to Islamism. He won't even be seen as a "misunderstander". He'll be a poor soul who was taken advantage of and one whom society must forgive because he knew not what he did.

Interesting, the bit about the murderer of Pim Fortuyn. The ultimate 'lily-white' 'activist' who does not look Muslim or have any overt connections thereto either.

But I guess 'lily-white' 'activists' are harder to come by than they imagined, so they have to dip a little lower in the barrel to find their, er, 'man.'

Islam and mental illness... Just sayin.' Heh.

Many thanks Hugh for your reasoning.

No doubt the sweetness to of getting rid of more than one infidel (two for one) is not lost upon these perps.

Speaking of the psychically marginal does anyone know what the status is of the case of the Coptic family a few years ago who were murdered in a suspiciously Islamic fashion by two ex-convicts certified by the authorities as non Muslim? Could they have had similar motives to that of Fortuyn's killer considering the many contacts with Muslim converts they must have had while imprisoned? I can't help thinking that if if it was definitely determined that there was no such influence, members of the prosecutorial team would be stepping over each other to inform the public of that fact.

Armanious murder update

Edward McDonald, having already been convicted on multiple counts of felony murder, will face trial again for the aggravated murder of 9-year-old Monica Armanious, authorities said.
"The prosecution of Edward McDonald for the purposeful killing of Monica is not only a question of sending a message, it is an unfinished obligation on the part of the state," Hudson County Prosecutor Edward De Fazio said
. McDonald, 28, already faces 30 to 300 years in prison when he's sentenced on the charges for which he's already been convicted, but "time is not the issue," Assistant Prosecutor Michael D'Andrea said.
"The issue is a 9-year-old that was stabbed 19 times. It is unfinished business," he said.
D'Andrea, who prosecuted McDonald in the first trial, will represent the state again in the next trial.
Hossam Armanious, 47, his wife Amal Garas, 37, and their two daughters, Sylvia, 16, and Monica, 9, were killed during the robbery of their home on Oakland Avenue in the Jersey City Heights on Jan. 11, 2005.
McDonald was convicted on seven counts of felony murder for the four family members, but was acquitted on charges of aggravated murder for Hossam Armanious, 47; his wife Amal Garas, 37; and their two daughters, Monica, 9, and Sylvia, 16. He also was convicted on burglary, robbery and weapons charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced June 5.
However, he wasn't convicted of the most serious charges against him -the four charges of aggravated murder. He was acquitted on three counts; the jury couldn't come to a decision on the fourth charge, against Monica. The jury also said it could not come to a decision on a felony murder (robbery) charge and weapons offenses in connection to Monica's slaying.
Today at 1:30 p.m., McDonald goes on trial on a second weapons charge. His defense attorneys waived McDonald's right to a trial by jury on that charge, and Superior Court Judge Kevin Callahan will hear the case today. He also is scheduled to rule on various pretrial motions today related to the retrial for Monica's slaying.
D'Andrea said he could not comment on the witnesses who may be called during the retrial, or on the length of the new trial, which he said could begin as early as this fall.
On March 3, 2005, McDonald gave a videotaped confession saying he and his co-defendant, Hamilton Sanchez, went into the Armanious home with the intent of robbing them. They tied up Garas and her two daughters and waited for Armanious to come home, then tied him up as well.
McDonald admitted stabbing Monica to death after she escaped from her bonds, pulled off her blindfold and saw their faces. The other three family members were stabbed to death.
Police were led to McDonald after Armanious's ATM card was used at various banks; Sanchez was arrested after detectives interviewed McDonald.
During the original trial, McDonald was represented by Paul Feinberg and Raymond Beam, but it is not clear if they will represent him in the retrial. They did not return calls for comment.

Hamilton Sanchez, is awaiting trial.

The man convicted of felony murder in the killing of a family of four in Jersey City three years ago was scheduled to be in court yesterday to face the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, but a scheduling glitch caused a postponement .
In March, Edward McDonald was convicted of felony murder and other charges in the killing of Hossam Armanious, 47; his wife Amal Garas, 37; and their two daughters, Sylvia, 16, and Monica, 9, who were slaughtered during the robbery of their home on Oakland Avenue in the Jersey City Heights on Jan. 11, 2005.
Because he has a previous criminal record, he was also charged with the weapons offense, but the jury was not informed of the charge because knowledge that he was a criminal could have been prejudicial.
Yesterday, state Superior Court Judge Kevin Callahan was to hear arguments from the defense and prosecution on the weapons charge and then rule on McDonald's guilt or innocence.
Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Michael D'Andrea said the hearing will likely be rescheduled for some time during the next few weeks and McDonald is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5.
His alleged accomplice, Hamilton Sanchez, is awaiting trial.

What I learnt about it here in the Netherlands is that Hugh is correct on the point of some degree of mental illness of the murderer of Fortuyn. (aseperger, kind of autism, is most mentioned). Van der Graaf was however an animal-rights activist. Actually he is connected with another murder: the murder of an official of some kind of inspection. Beside that Fortuyn really was very outspoken on the subject of fur-farms so there was a motive in that field as well.

I do think there is a connection between jihadism and this type of activists but it is a more indirect one form my point of view.

IF the fellow really did have Asperger's Syndrome, I can see why he might have been sucked into Islam.

Just look up a reputable site - e.g. the Autism Association, in Australia - to get a detailed description of how it works. It's one of the disorders on what's called the Autism Spectrum, and it's something you're born with.

Essentially, people with Asperger's are extremely routine-oriented and find it difficult to cope with change (as infants and toddlers they can totally freak out at the tiniest change in routine). Islam's presentation of a Total System - the five-prayers-a-day thing and all the minutiae of all the rules about when and how to do EVERYTHING - would be very attractive to such a person.

They can be anywhere on the intellect range from subnormal (as Reilly seemingly was) to genius. They have major difficulty reading the facial expressions, body language and emotions of others, and thus find it hard to make friends (this, too, makes them vulnerable to the predatory da'wa artist, and would make them unable to see through taqiyya).

The ruthless simplicity of the Muslim division of humanity into two - fellow Muslim GOOD, non-Muslim BAD - would attract because it provides a readymade template for how to 'sort' and how to treat the people you meet.

They are very literal in the way they understand language, and have difficulty with tone of voice.

Many are drawn to weird stuff like UFOs. Thus the weirdness of some of Islam's beliefs and rituals, which would put most ordinary westerners right off, might fascinate an Asperger's person - 'reilly' was said to have 'converted himself'.

Much in their profile would make them dangerously susceptible to a highly-ordered mind-control cult like Islam.

How do I know this stuff? My own eldest son has what is called High-Functioning Asperger's (that is, he's one of the brilliant ones). To understand the 'strangeness' that an Asperger's child can project to others, just reflect on the fact that at primary school he was dubbed 'Space Boy'.

I have to say that for people with Asperger's, probably the safest and surest way for them to be rendered immune to Islam (or to any other dangerous cult, for that matter) is to be - from childhood - thoroughly well grounded within another, saner religion, one that will satisfy the 'magical/ supernatural' desire in a positive way, and provide a readymade social network they need, and a fairly strong structure of ritual and predictable, 'scripted' group activities, thus answering to their need for order and routine. In my son's case, the doctrines and rituals and social acceptance he finds within our 'high Anglican' Christian community suit him just fine.

Further, since he's a gifted artist, he's been able to fit into the classic and well defined Western social role of 'The Artist'. His sketchbook is his life-preserver: in social gatherings when he doesn't feel able to go out and mix, he can sit and draw, and people (including pretty girls) will come up and peer over his shoulder and ooh and ah. He's already sold pictures.

But if he DIDN'T have that particular gift, and if he'd been born into a different kind of family, without a clearly defined belief system taught from day one...I think he'd be at risk.

Moral: with the wolves, the da'wa practitioners and jihad recruiters on the prowl, we are going to have to take extra care of the weaklings in our herd.

Perhaps the story of people like 'Reilly' the nail-bomber should be shared, as a cautionary tale, with parent support groups like (here in Australia) the Autism Association. "There is a cult out there and it may take your vulnerable autistic/ asperger's kid, mess with their head, and turn them into a ruthless murderer".

Islam: preying upon the mentally-unstable since 622 A.D.

Promising them rapine, pillage, cheap glory, 72 virgins, rivers of wine, and, if they survived the terroristic imperialism of expansionistic Islam, 4 wives and endless female sex slaves until Allah called them to the posthumous open bar cum bordello known as "Muslim Paradise".

(And, if you try to leave, they promise to kill you.)

In my opinion, once this guy Nicholas Reilly/ Mohammed Rasheed goes to prison, as I expect he will, the best thing possible would be to forget about 'religious freedom'.

Every person who talks to him should address him by his baptismal name, Nicholas Reilly. Separate him entirely from Islam (NO Quran, NO Muslim chaplain, NO contact with Muslim prisoners, no halal food, NOTHING) since following its teachings and associating with its followers has demonstrably transformed him into a danger to himself and to the public. Had he joined the Thuggees or the Satanists, would anyone permit him to continue practising such a 'faith'?

Instead, while he's 'inside', intensively re-expose him to Christianity - with a name like Nicholas Reilly, Irish Catholic suggests itself as the logical choice. Find a smart cool-headed warm-hearted priest who knows about Asperger's and, preferably, also knows about cult deprogramming.

Hail Marys five times a day, and attendance at an old-fashioned mass at least once a week, would harmlessly satisfy Mr Reilly's Asperger's Syndrome need for ritual and routine, and keep him out of mischief.

If his birth background is 'protestant', folk like the Salvation Army or Kairos or Prison Fellowship should be called in. If he can be deprogrammed, then once he's served his sentence he will need a healthy replacement for the illusory 'brotherhood' and false family offered by the Ummah. Something like L'Arche would probably fit the bill.

Putting it bluntly: the general and obvious conclusion from this episode is that Islam should be kept as far away as possible from those in non-Muslim societies who are weak morally or weak intellectually/ psychologically, or both.

Further observations:

By all means allow secular psychologists or counsellors, and clergy of the human-friendly 'Golden Rule' religions such as Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity, to minister to prisoners and to those with assorted psychological and mental disorders/ handicaps..but no access for Muslims, please, not any more. Islam is just too darned dangerous, it doesn't cure, it uses and abuses, both recruiting and creating killers.

Infidel pre-schoolers and primary schoolers need to be kept away from Islamic da'wa altogether - even if, in some places, they cannot avoid contact with Muslim schoolmates. Christian and Jewish families should encourage their children to pray for their Muslim schoolmates; to be charitable, but wary. "Wise as serpents, harmless as doves".

Spencer's books - Islam Unveiled, Truth About Muhammad, Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades - should be in EVERY Infidel high school. They would make excellent 'teaching texts'/ textbooks from which any clued-up Infidel schoolteacher, or RE teacher, could inoculate Infidel high-schoolers against the jihad recruiters. Infidel high school and university chaplains and counsellors should be on the watch for any signs of Muslims trying to approach and recruit vulnerable/ marginal students; and also for signs of such marginal students being swayed by Muslim propaganda in the mass media or the internet.

Dr Mark Durie's little handbook on the contrasts between Islamic and Biblical teaching about God, should be in the back pocket of every Jewish and Christian chaplain in the army, prison system, workplace, high schools and universities. Like Mr Spencer's books, it's a simply worded and accurate, clearly set out 'teaching text'.
