We're still waiting for a government to say, "Grow up." An update on this story.
"Japan says Muslim offense at cartoon 'regrettable,'" from Japan Today, May 24 (thanks to Twostellas):
TOKYO — The government said in a statement Friday that it is ‘‘regrettable’’ that a section of a Japanese cartoon has sparked an outcry in the Muslim world and stressed the need to foster understanding to prevent similar incidents in the future. ‘‘While it resulted from carelessness, the Japanese government considers it regrettable that Muslims’ feelings were hurt by the content of some of the cartoon,’’ Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Kazuo Kodama said. ‘‘In any case, we think it is important to prevent a recurrence by fostering understanding and respect for other religions and cultures.’’The statement came a day after Japanese publisher Shueisha Inc and Another Push Pin Planning Co, which created the animated images, apologized for offending Muslims but insisted the detail had simply been overlooked and there was no intention of showing any disrespect for the Quran. At issue is a 90-second segment from ‘‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,’’ which depicts Dio Brando, a villain, picking up a Quran from a bookshelf and apparently examining it as he orders the execution of the hero and his friends.
Oh, that never happens!

What's particularly depressing about this story is that Japan has no muslims, and so couldn't be motivated by fears of domestic unrest, unlike, say, the Netherlands. The OIC must be thrilled that their version of an international "free speech" norm appears to be taking root.
Sheik yer booty, you're wrong.

brother sheik:
Bad link.
I googled Islam in Japan and found several interesting articles. Muslims have indeed landed in Japan.
Just checked, it works for me bro.
Otherwise log on to my site and type 'Japan Jihad' in the search window, and see what comes up. Same goes for 'Korea Jihad'- the ummah is all cashed up and there are infidel lands to be conquered.
Sad, but its all happening while we diddle...
...the Japanese government considers it regrettable that Muslims’ feelings were hurt by the content of some of the cartoon...
It's even more regrettable that the Japanese government is worried about it. Apparently the government needs to grow up too.
Bizarre Adventure sums up the whole mess nicely.
It doesn't matter if Japan has a sizable Muslim population or not. In 1991, Muslims infiltrated Tokyo and murdered Hitoshi Igarashi, the Japanese translator of Satanic Verses.

The murderer(s) were never caught. This incident is still fresh in the minds of the Japanese. (Especially with publishers.)
Some more information on this story:
1) This anime wasn't even released in the Middle East, these Muslims came about it through illegal filesharing. They weren't even paying customers.
2) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is being pulled worldwide, not just Japan. It's even being pulled in the good ole' USA just to appease Islamofascists:

Sheik yer'mami,
The link did indeed take me to your site, but I saw "Error 404 not found" on the page.
As for the story, nothing new here: when actual Muslims, like the one in the photograph hold the Koran in one hand and a machine gun in the other, the Muslim world says nothing at all. At all.
But a infidel depicting such behavior!?! Let's riot and kill some folks, just to show how peaceful we are.
Anybody else think we live in Mirror world?
That's ridiculous. I was at a bookstore just yesterday, and picked up a Qur'an off the top shelf with my left hand, twiddled it around, then placed it upside down on the bottom shelf below some Judaica books. Nothing happened to me. Try it yourself, it's safe.
Strange!
I just tried again and the page loaded immediately. But if you have problems, just go to the site and and use the search window for 'Japan Jihad'- there are several entries relating to Islam in Japan.
Even the Japanese bushido spirit can be cowed in the face is Islam. Tragic. Is there NO ONE who will tell the Muslims to go eff themselves?
I'm holding out for the Koreans...they just might be the ones to tell the Mohammedans to stick it.
Of course, I thought that of the Japanese, too.

Sure, the Muslims are in Japan. And Korea, too. I was reading about it last year. In one article I read about Muslim women in Japan, they were carrying on about Islam gives them so much more respect as women and how happy they are to be veiled and to have Muslim husbands becuase Japanese husbands don't show enough respect and equality with their wives.
They are so full of it.
Madame Vengier,
I know that woman have it rougher in Japan than the west but converting to Islam is the proverbial: "out of the pan and into the fire" manuever. Women that spout that kind of nonsense about Islam respecting women are like medieval peasants bragging about being the property of his lord.
Judaica at the bottom?!
Beware our wrath! You shall die the death of a thousand frozen left-over Passover matzahballs!!!
(I haven't decided yet whether to throw them at you or feed them to you. Either way, you're a gonner).
Bushi-do is no more common in Japan than in Connecticut, perhaps even less so.
It's going to take quite a while before our cousins out east get it together to join the resistance in any serious way. And I'll include the more martial and manly Koreans in that. They will be misled by the popularity of anti-American sentiment among the college-indoctrinated young and the left.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect and affection for Japan. But one has to call a spade a spade.
National self respect and fighting spirit have become a rarities in Japan, and the only people I know who still remember those things are nationalists at the fringes of political life.
It makes me shudder to think.
I hope they wake up.
I hope they don't pull the seeds until I've got it fully downloaded. The rats are in Japan now too.. shame their guvmint is caving like the rest of us.
Does democracy still have meaning when our guvmints are falling all over themselves to accomodate the enemy??!!

Don't contaminate the Judaica. Why not put the KKKorag in the trash where it belongs?
Next time I'm in Borders or another big chain book store I'm gonna take all the KKKorags and put them UNDER the "cooking with Pork" type books.
The KKKorag really belongs in the kiddie section with Miss Piggy but I'd hate to scare the youngin's.
I'd think Japan to be the very last nation to bow to such Islamic insanity. I mean, the very last nation. Ah, maybe their PM will round up the Islamists who have infiltrated Japan and ship them back to Arabia.
Japan is a tiny island nation that prides itself on having NEVER been invaded in its several-thousand year history. They will not go quietly into the night, despite this recent bit of news.
