The state Education Department on Monday directed a Minnesota charter school to "correct" two areas related to religion at the school.
Tarik ibn Zayad Academy, which focuses on Middle Eastern culture and shares a mosque with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, came under fire after a teacher alleged that the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students.
"The Minnesota Department of Education goes to great lengths to make clear to charter schools and their sponsors that, while schools should appropriately accomodate students' religious beliefs, they must be 'nonsectarian' under the state's charter school law," said the state's education Deputy Commissioner Chas Anderson.
The allegations first surfaced after an article by a columnist for the Star Tribune. The Education Department subsequently began a review of the suburban Inver Grove Heights school and released its findings Monday.
The agency said it was concerned about the school, with about 300 students, accommodating communal prayer and providing transportation to an after-school religious program.
"We have directed the school to take appropriate corrective actions regarding these matters and will continue to provide oversight to ensure that the school is in compliance with state and federal law," Anderson said.
In an attempt to report about the new findings from the Department of Education, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS went to TiZA. While on school grounds, our crew was attacked by school officials. The two men were able to grab our camera and kept it until police arrived.
Our photographer was treated by paramedics after suffering minor injuries.
The perfect example of the "Religion of Peace". Now I wonder what the school has to hide? Why else such treatment for the press.
The reporters probably asked a stupid question: "Is Islam being taught inside?"
The Muslim attack provided the answer..
Be it noted that Tarek ibn Zayad, for whom this madrassa is named, is the Muslim warlord who led the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711, beginning a subjugation that would last until 1492. It would seem that this school's leadership is doing its best to live up to his spirit.
But don't call it jihad!
The piquant history of the man after whom the school is named, and the deep Muslim belief -- it should be easy to find quotations on-line about this -- that Spain is high on Islam's To-Do List of places formerly under Muslim control that therefore must again be Regained For Islam, might be of interest to Minnesota taxpayers -- just the kind of thing that a columnist or television reporter might raise with members of the school's administration, or even without discussing it with them, convey what it's all about to their readers and listeners.

The violence shown towards the media leads me to believe that there is something to hide. And here is another reason to constantly and thoroughly scrutinize muslims in this country. Every mosque and muslim school needs to be infiltrated. They need to know that they are being watched. I suspect that the school official does not want the reporters talking to the children. I suspect we might discover that the children have no choice whether to attend religious activities.

Oh, I think the school official who said he does not know how to use the flagpole is either a liar or a simpleton. He looked pretty smart to me.

This schools needs to be closed. The reporter did not even ask a question as you will see from the video clip on the station's sight.
I grew up in Minnesota and it was then the most tolerate and prosperous place in the country.
These muslims are using that tradition of tolerance to chip away at our freedom. Any fan of the sight knows that this is one of several problems Minnesota is having with the muslim immigrants. Cab drivers that will not take passengers with dogs or alcohol. Muslims cashiers who will no checkout pork products.
I worked briefly at Macy's downtown Minneapolis and the muslim girls refused to work in the deli where their holinesses might get contaminated by pork. They would disappear for 30 minutes at a time to pray leaving us infidels to pick up the slack.

The school employees who attacked the news crew taught the madrassa students a valuable lesson: Violence works. How many employees at non-muslim charter public schools would retain their positions if they attacked a news crew at their school of employment?
I definitely agree with the thought that this attack shows the school has something to hide. I also agree with the idea that mohammedans need to be overtly monitored. If they don't like it, well, no one's keeping them here against their will.
