Bardot fined again for complaining that Muslims are "imposing their ways" on France

Not again

Muslims, she said, are "destroying our country by imposing their ways." So I guess this fine means either that Muslims aren't destroying France by imposing their ways, or that they aren't imposing their ways on France. The first choice looks as if it all depends on your point of view, and the second is a simple question of fact. In any case, there is no "race hate" here: Islam is not a race.

"Bardot fine for stoking race hate," from the BBC, June 3 (thanks to all who sent this in):

A French court has fined former film star Brigitte Bardot 15,000 euros for inciting racial hatred.

She was prosecuted over a letter published on her website that complained Muslims were "destroying our country by imposing their ways".

It is the fifth time Ms Bardot been convicted over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers. This is her heaviest fine so far....

So much for freedom of speech.

I forgot, no such thing under Sharia.

First Lollobrigida on the Quran and now Bardot. I like where you're going with this. Maybe you could work in the original Bond girl in the bathing suit and the modern Halle Berry version?

Thanks in advance.

This Orwellian fascism stuff is such a drag.

I will support Brigitte's right to stoke, any time, any where.

Unfortunately, Bardot is no shining model of love for democracy. Her associates are mostly Front National - Le Pen's repulsive and thoroughly unconverted Fascist party - and she has been more than friendly with a man who has been convicted of Holocaust denial. Her rhetoric is emotionally nationalistic - not patriotic, I mean, but the kind of nasty mix of backward look to an idealized past and hate of various features of the present which always becomes an excuse for tyranny. What should rather be said about this situation, as with the very similar situation in Britain, is that it is tragic when only Fascists of the Le Pen/BNP kind feel able to articulate what by now most of the country instinctively feels to be true; or even to speak of love of country without shame or qualification. The dictatorship of PC has a lot to answer for.

Freedom fries? And I thought that was a stupid concept in 2001.
I will be sad to say adieu to my old friends Courvosier and la Veuve Cliquot. C'est la guerre.

Not surprising, is it, that the Vichy government returns to France? The only difference this time is the overlord is islamofascist instead of nazi.

One has to wonder if Notre Dame Cathedral will still be standing in Paris within the next fifty years.

PorkFatRules:

It will still be standing -- possibly with four phallic minarets around it?

What company she keeps is irrelevant, how ever obnoxious, she should have a right to free speech, this is insanity. Which is why I want the UK to leave the European Union.
Every day preachers all over Europe spew anti Jewish, anti western bile from their Mosques and France does nothing.
These are comments, opinions, this is a thought crime.
The seeds of the next European war, spewed out right here by court cases such as these.
Amazing.

Interesting all the non-coverage this gets in the mainstream media in the U.S., while, if Susan Sarandon or Jessica Lange, et al, criticize U.S. policy or Bush or want to moan about the pantie torture of Abu Ghraib, someone at 60 Minutes or Dateline or Good Morning America, ad nasuem, is there in minutes to fawn over every self-loathing syllable.

But Islam has a lifetime pass from these lickspittles of the apocalpyse.

Ian: assuming the EU is corrupt, nonetheless to make it an universal scapegoat is plain silly. It is not the EU that imposes Politically Correct thought in Europe, but the legions of bad academics, corrupt BBC hacks, mediocre MPs, putrid journalists and ignorant teachers, all of them wholly home-bred, and - read your George Orwell - pre-dating the EU by decades. Britain did not need any nasty foreigners to learn to corrupt herself, and it is sheer political escapism to say that she did. Suppose you leave the EU (and I would welcome that, since De Gaulle was right and Britain should never have been admitted), what then? You will still have your massed legions of judges, your Ian Blairs and West Midland Police Forces, your Gorgon Browns and dim Labour MPs, your Yasmin Alibhais and Robert Fisks, your university activists, your arabist Foreigh Office, your atheist Anglican bishops, your time-serving Tories and out-to-lunch Lib Dems - all very much native product, no need for nasty foreigners to apply.

Paolo:

... is that it is tragic when only Fascists of the Le Pen/BNP kind feel able to articulate what by now most of the country instinctively feels to be true ...

It is the fascists in government who have prevented free speech to the extent that ordinary people cannot express how they feel about Islam. If you dare to speak your mind in the UK you risk arrest, social opprobrium and losing your job.

So now tell me: who are the real fascists?

Well Paolo
Although what you say is true, it was always thus, the appeasers of the Soviet Union, the enthusiasts for disarmament, the lover of dear old Adolf in the British establishment, there seems to be a human impulse towards collectivism, and all it's inherent evils, but that's humanity for you, always looking for utopias and often creating hell.
My objection to the European Union is purely that it is undemocratic, and in many ways anti democratic. If Britain left, then like all established democracies it would self regulate, as we can see by the rise of the BNP, beginning to unsettle things over here.
If it (EU) stopped its rampant anti democratic bias, it's suppression of free speech, and it's cuddling up to theocratic, fascistic nuts jobs, whilst favouring a sinister federalist agenda, I'd probably think is was ok.
I don't think it will last, it will tear itself apart on the sharp pitiless rocks of its own submerged contradictions. I'd rather however that Britain was sailing free to pick the survivors(again), rather than breached below the waterline as well.

Is A new Vichy government getting a hold of France? But this time the overlord is Islamo-fascism instead of the Nazi .... When will They march on the Champs-Élysées and shout FROM THE KORAN ITSELF…”HEIL HITLER” Now Upgraded to “ALLAH AKBAR?”
In June Sarkozy makes his official visit to Israel, with hand on his heart, he will say that France is the best friend Israel ever had .....At the same time demanding false concessions to create a Palestinian State (to please his over 6 million Arab rabble in France) ..... Without understanding (?) the contradiction and lack of Logical assertion of his two statements.....
The foreign politics of France is equal to what it always was. There is nothing more to accept … soon La France will live under Sharia .... Hallelujah ......

Problem resolved.

RE: Video Burka e spaghetti.

Unbelievable, that anyone would put themselves through that kind of humiliation just to eat lunch.

Ian - that's what the Marxists used to say about Capitalism - that it would collapse under the weight of its own contradictions. In fact, if you go somewhere like India, you can still meet them saying the same thing. The markets have a different view of it, as you will be able to tell by tracking the euro against the dollar. As for compromising, anti-democratic scum - as you say, they have always been around.

A French court has fined former film star Brigitte Bardot 15,000 euros for inciting racial hatred.
............................

If I just read this, I would assume that the fine was paid to the French state--granted, not great. But actually, things are even worse than the above implies. In American dollars, she was fined $23,325 overall, and ordered to pay $1,555 in "damages" to *the very group that has repeatedly sued her*.

she has been dragged into court five times by the same group, always refered to as an "anti-racism" or even "anti-hate" group--MRAP. I found it fairly difficult to find what this stands for--I had to do a lot of digging. It stands for "Movement against Racism and for friendship between All Peoples", which just trips off the tongue.

MRAP is apparently an offshoot of France's Communist Party. Now, I'm not a fan of Communism in general, but the French Communist Party has been especially heinous in its positions--pretty much hard-line Stalinist.

The head of MRAP is Mouloud Aounit, an Algerian. In 2005, MRAP tried to get a bill passed that would have penalized blasphemy in France. I'll leave it to you to decide just what sort of "blasphemy" MRAP might have found worthy of prosecution.

MRAP has also tried to get Orianna Fallaci's books banned. Of course, there are those who will say that Brigitte Bardot is no Orianna Fallaci, and they would be correct.

This is still a freedom of speech case, though, and Ms. Bardot's rights are worth protecting. Even for those who disagree with many of her statements (I disagree with many of them, myself)--there is no doubt the chilling effect this is likely to have on free speech in general, and the fear it is especially likely to engender in those who do not have Ms. Bardot's means. From a lot of comments I have see in the press, there seems to be little understanding of this.

For example, I was surprised to see our mediocre local paper, the Oakland Tribune, cover this story at all. As it was, it was a snarky little squib on the gossip page, titled "Brigitte, quit while you're still behind".

Where's her original letter? I want to publish it, too.

An article in Le Monde provides more details: "The court did not comply with the prosecutor's request for two months in prison (in addition to the fines).

Her lawyer, Francois-Xavier Kelidjian, is not sure she will appeal because she is "tired of lawsuits". Mme Bardot says she is incapable of going out. She was not present at the hearing or at the sentencing."

The prosecutor wanted to sentence a 73-year-old woman, in poor health, to two months in prison for voicing a non-violent opinion.

Surely there are (non-Muslim) immigrants and Gay people who have not been happy with Ms. Bardot's remarks, and yet none of these people are dragging her into court and lobbying for her imprisonment.

Apparently none of the radical Muslims--of whom there are so many nowadays in France--openly calling for Jihad violence against French citizens and the violent destruction of the secular French state, are liable for prosecution under "hate crime" laws.

Ironic then Paolo, that Marxism did (collapse under the weight of its own contradictions). Capitalism I'd venture is not however an artificial construct, but a extension of natural human behavioiur.
Marxism, like all types of collectivist ideologies, is constructed in the software of the mind (I'd venture). You can always tell them because part of the ideology is designed to stop debate. Islamophobia is False Class Consciousness.

However, like all animals we do seem to be gobbling up our resources to the point when a catastrophe in a true Malthusian sense is going to occur. It could be the end of capitalism we know it. Oil prices anyone?
