Levar Haley Washington Update. "Man sentenced in California terrorism probe," from the Associated Press, June 23:
One of four men accused of plotting from behind bars to attack military sites, synagogues and other targets in California has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison.
Levar Haley Washington was sentenced Monday by US District Court Judge Cormac J. Carney after pleading guilty last year to conspiring to levy war against the United States and using a firearm to further the conspiracy. Authorities say Washington was in a California prison gang cell of radical Muslims.

I wonder what his real name is? Abdul Muhamad? Jihad Bomberdinijad?
How's that prison Daw'a doing? Are statistics being kept? Are those who are doing Muslim mussionary work kept tabs on, both those who are prisoners themselves, and those who are prison "chaplains" and those who come from outside.
What is the atmosphere in prison? What kind of things encourage, and what kind of things can discourage, the efficacy of these non-stop campaigns of Da'wa? To what extent do people become Muslims in jail because the Muslims, the fellow members of the Umma, provide the same kind of protection, or even better protection, than on the outside joining the Bloods or the Crips provides?
What are the elements that go into that Da'wa? What texts are used? When the targets are black, what harnessing of social and economic resentments is employed? How would intelligent non-Muslims deal with that appeal (ask black ministers to help in a counter-campaign, one which not only calls people to Jesus, but that explains a number of things about Islam that may be usefully made better known, including the vast and deadly Arab slave trade, that began much earlier, that ended -- where it ended, and only because of outside non-Muslim pressure -- much later, of Arab slavers in Africa. Let it be known that Islam regards music with disfavor, and the most fanatical Muslims have been known to kill singers, wedding-singers in Afghanistan, and the singers of Rai in Algeria, and to bomb music stores, whether they sell records, or tapes, or instruments. And go from there.
Where is the counter-Da'wa? Where are the officials who, aware that Islam is not just, not even mainly, a "religion" as we in the non-Muslim world understand that word -- that is, it is a politics and a geopolitics, with a clear impulse to promote conquest, that is the tearing-down of all obstacles to the spread of Islam, so that in the end, everywhere in the world, that rightly belongs to Allah (the world belongs to Allah, and therefore to his people, the Best of Peoples), Islam will dominate, and Muslims rule.
This is not a theoretical problem. It is a real one. Conversion to Islam by the economically and psychically marginal has been going on in the prisons of France, the prisons of Great Britain. It is going on all over the United States, with authorities either unaware, or choosing to remain unaware because they cannot easily act to counter Da'wa, even though it is a threat to our legal and political instiutions, to art and to science, to individual autonomy, like nothing else on earth. No one in the government as yet will speak soberly out about this. Indeed, the current administration, or at least officials in the State Department, seem hellbent on removing, as much as possible, the words "Islam" and "Musliim" from the war being conducted on us through military means -- qitaal or combat or terrorism. How much the greater, then, the inhibition about discussing war by other means, the means at present found most effective for Muslims living in the West, who share the same ultimate goals (like Slow Jihadists of Fatah and Fast Jihadists of Hamas in the war-necessarily-without-end against Israel) as people engaged in terrorism, but use different aims to the same end.
Prison officials, right at the top, need in all the Western countries to exchange information about the campaigns of Da'wa directed at what is truly a captive audience, at the appeal of these campaigns, the funding and content and efficacy of these campaigns.
We otherwise remain, as the old phrase has it, naked to our enemies. For god's sake, it's time to get dressed.
..."conspiring to levy war against the United States..."
When an American does this, isn't it called treason? Or, can't we say "treason" anymore? I'm compiling references my Newspeak Dictionary, First Edition.

And are those practitioners of the religion of peace being monitored, both in and out of prison?
The combination of freedom of religion and prisoners rights are the culprits behind prison Islamic recruiting. The only rights a prisoner should have is to food, shelter, clothing, adequate medical care, and otherwise the right to sit down, do your time, and shut up. I am of the opinion that criminals in prison earned their way there, by devious and harmful methods. There should be no rewards at the end of that road, religious or otherwise. Forced idleness is a terrible punishment. This is why deprivation by checkers is a frequent punishment in prisons.
You act up and you lose your checkers privilege's for months, even years. That is a big deal when playing checkers is the only thing to do.
But they can't do that with religion. Religion and it's practices have become a prisoners right.
This right is especially manipulated by Islamic prisoners, who hide behind it to recruit hostiles to Islam. Not to calm their hostility, but to amplify it, and direct it. In other words, create jihadi's, right under the noses of the authorities who can't do much about it if they wanted to.
Prisons should not be moral or immoral, they should be amoral and impersonal. 'If you can't do the time, don't do the crime' should be the real motto. No TV, no religion, no social workers, no lawyers...only checkers...and thats provisional...
Sheriff Joe should be made national director of prisons. Of course that wuldn't help the state prisons much, particularly in California, Mass, Oregon, Vermont etc. But at least the federal prison system would change.
So here's a question: Let's say we honor prisoner's right to freedom of religion by offering them no ministry at all, but access to books. They can have, upon request, a Torah, a Bible, a Qu'ran, etc. Without guidance or radicalization efforts of any kind, do you think you would get any converts to Islam from someone just attempting to read that piece of nonsense Qu'ran? Without someone "interpreting it correctly" and "putting it in context" and lying to get around its evil tenets do you really think anyone would convert. Let's just assume they can read. Many can't.
So, without prosyletizing, we don't have much to worry about. They do not have a right to have a minister of their choice, except when they're being executed. They have a right to freedom of worship, on their own, with the text of their choice. They have no right of assembly. Does that solve it?
