Iran says it will hit Israel if attacked

1939 Alert. "Report: Iran to hit Israel if attacked," by Ali Akbar Dareini for Associated Press, June 28 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

TEHRAN, Iran - The commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned that Tehran would respond to an attack against it by barraging Israel with missiles and controlling a key oil passageway in the Persian Gulf, said a newspaper report published Saturday.

The report in the conservative Jam-e-Jam newspaper comes after the disclosure of a recent Israeli military exercise over the Mediterranean Sea that was seen as sending a message to Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions.

Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari said there were strong deterrents against striking Iran, including the country's missile power, the vulnerability of Israeli and U.S. forces in the region and the low probability of a successful attack....

"Naturally, any country coming under attack will use all of its capacity and opportunities to confront the enemy. Given the main route for energy to exit the region, one of Iran's steps will definitely be to exercise control on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz," Jafari told Jam-e-Jam, which is affiliated with Iran's state-run radio and television network.

In 2006, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also threatened to disrupt the world's oil supply if the United States attacked Iran. Iran is the world's fourth largest oil producer. About 60 percent of the world's oil passes through the strait.

"Should a confrontation erupt between us and the enemy, the scope will definitely reach the oil issue. ... Oil prices will dramatically increase. This is one of the factors deterring the enemy from taking military action," Jafari was quoted as saying....

Jafari also warned that an attack against Iran will also prompt Muslims, including Shiites, to harm U.S. and Israeli interests throughout the Middle East in retaliation to any attack against Iran. He mentioned the Tehran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

Now why would Muslims do that, over a localized struggle over a small bit of land?

I think we need to take a big step back and soberly assess the situation, so as to defuse it and avoid a direct military conflict with Iran. I don't believe that the conditions of the Catholic Just War Tradition are anywhere close to being met here.

I suppose once the United States has done all of the following:

1) Formally renounce and apologize for its mistreatment of Iran in the early 1950s

2) Renounce, apologize for, and end its support of Zionist machinations in the region during the past 60 years.

3) Furnish clear, irrefutable proof that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons capability that has no intrinsic morally valid capability.

4) Destroy its own entire American stockpile of nuclear weapons that have no intrinsic morally valid capability or use.

5) Vigorously pursue an initiative that calls upon all nations with nuclear weapons that have no intrinsic morally valid capability to abandon them completely and verifiably.

and after these are done, the Iranians are still not cooperating in an open and transparent manner, then I think we will have reached the point where we can open a debate on the prudential merits or lack thereof of initiating some form of military action against Iran.

fairuzfan-

Thanks! That's the best laugh I've had all day! Meanwhile Islam's noble warriors go down THEIR moral checklist.

We have got to become independent of our need for ME oil. We need to both be tapping into the North Slope of Alaska and developing alternate energies and fuels. If we can do that we will have taken away Irans ability to influence the world oil supply. Not just what they produce but all of the oil passing through The Strait of Hormuz. If we can eliminate, or curtail our dependence on ME oil we will also be curtailing the funding of jihad through oil money.

I just viewed the talk given by Lindsey Williams and I was shocked by the facts, as he states them, regarding Americas oil reserves. the talk is an hour and a quarter and it's riveting.

Would you..uh be a State Department employee?
Just asking..

fairuzfan - You're wasting your time. Everyone here is already familiar with and can easily refute your "talking points."

Richard - you're spot on.

4) Destroy its own entire American stockpile of nuclear weapons that have no intrinsic morally valid capability or use.

Good idea. We could destroy them by dropping them on Iran targets and make a parking lot out of Iran. That would be the most efficient way to get rid of them.

Iran could do many things. It all depends on how long we let them.

Hopefully, the Iranians are actually not welcome in Iraq as reporting currently seems to portray.

It would remind Ineedajob he is losing his grip. Like the "Walking Dude" realizing the little things are starting to slip.

How long does anyone here think that Iran will be able to control the Straits? Like a puppy barkin' at a full grown Lion...they just won't last long.

The punks talk a good battle but they lack the weaponry to follow up their BS.

I thought I heard a dog barkin' here...trying to annoy. Some stupid crap about leaving ourselves open to a nuclear attack by imitating France prior to WWII.

Those who ignore history...etc...

Good, please do. Move against Israel and get wiped off the face of the earth. Smart.
