Jordan summons Danish cartoonists to answer blasphemy charges

Summon this

A fresh assault on freedom of speech and freedom of conscience. Will the Danish authorities cooperate? Probably not. Will Interpol cooperate? I wouldn't put it past them.

"Danish editors face trial in Jordan," from the Copenhagen Post, June 3 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Eleven Danes have been summoned to appear before the Jordanian pubic prosecutor to answer charges of blasphemy and threatening the national peace. They include the cartoonist who drew one of the Mohammed cartoons and editors from 10 of the 17 newspapers that reprinted them.

The group behind the announcement is called The Prophet Unites Us, a union of Jordanian media organisations, organisations and private individuals.

'The public prosecutor decided to summon the Danes for a series of criminal offences. Now the Danes have to meet in Jordan,' said Zakaria al-Sheikh, the group's general secretary, to Politiken newspaper.

He explained that the public prosecutor will ask the Danish embassy for help in contacting Danish officials to arrange the meeting of the editors.

Osama al-Bettar, the group's lawyer, said that if the Danes do not appear, the next step will be to inform Interpol and seek their arrest....

"threatening the national peace"

cartoons

A direct attack on our most basic freedom. Let's watch the pioneering dhimmis line up to enforce theocratic fascism.

Well, with Bridget Bardot's conviction (and fifteen THOUSAND euro fine) in France for inciting racial hatred for doing no more that telling the truth, I'd bet that Interpol is already hot on the trail of these guys.
Honestly, heaven help western civilization, or what's left of it.

the Jordanian pubic prosecutor

I completely believe that Jordan has one of these.

Someone need to start movement to bring judges in islamic countries to court in Europe who have not allowed christians to display their religion.

Until Jordan has freedom of speech, tell them to drop dead. Let the rest of the world comform to western ideals. Any outrage or insult by these devils must be endured by Christians? Since when?

Do NOT buy any textiles or other goods made in Jordan. Write your Congressman and demand that this vicious little state -- its viciousness hidden from view, for so long, first by that "plucky little king" Hussein, and then by a group effort, by the thick-necked, stolid King Abdullah, aided and abetted by the mediagenic Queen "Act of Faith" Noor, and the propagandistically-exploitable-because-attractive "Palestinian" wife. Jordan, so often described, just like Egypt, as "our ally," is nothing of the kind. They are overwhelmingly Muslim, with the usual daily dose, in the media, of Islam-based resentment, hysteria, and hate. Don't be fooled by those nonsensical cliches, so breathlessly reported, about how they merely "dislike the American government" but "love the American people." Read, instead, the opinion polls about attitudes toward America, and toward other Infidels.

No need to continue to swallow the pro-Jordan propaganda that began decades ago, with the supposedly dashing King Hussein, flying his own airline, raicing his own cars up and down the streets of Amman, and living through various assassination attempts.

Yes, he was personally brave. So what? What's that got to do with the price of eggs?

"..Osama al-Bettar, the group's lawyer, said that if the Danes do not appear, the next step will be to inform Interpol and seek their arrest...."

Can they do this? I dont think so... if yes, then everyone is "fucked", criticizing islam will be the death of everyone in the west... and would mean that the Islamic law does rule of the world...

'The public prosecutor decided to summon the Danes for a series of criminal offences. Now the Danes have to meet in Jordan,' said Zakaria al-Sheikh, the group's general secretary, to Politiken newspaper.

Have to meet in Jordan? Who says?

The muslims already think they're in charge of everything.

I wonder if anyone will say, out-loud, that the Danes are under Danish law, and are subject to the Danish authorities, not some arrogant wannabes in Jordan.

EXACTLY!!! Begin to file charge after charge after charge against all muslims who commit any crime against a non-muslim.

"However, the Danish foreign ministry has said that a forced deportation is not a possibility. It would require that the printing of the Mohammed cartoons is punishable in Denmark, which is not the case."
Quote from the Copenhagen article... I guess Jordan will have to come to them!
BTW Hugh--I love to pop into queen ranias' blog every now & then--when one should happen to bring up a subject on as to what Jordanians feel about current events, they are either ignored or talked out of the discussion!

They made a huge mistake honestly terming this a blasphemy charge and the authoritarian mindcrime-sounding "threating to national peace." Someone forgot to make the switcharoo to "human rights" and "racism" charges. When they get that fixed the NYT can do their piece in favor of executing newspaper editors who don't tow the line on thinking about Islam.

I'm drawing a cartoon as I post this. How long before Jordan "summons" me?
/In other news, Jordan is a real country

ok. Someone should create a group called Human Rights Unite Us and start taking these thugs into court everywhere. They will be stuck in their own places.

What about sue Muhammed, Mohammed and Muhummad. It will take care of at least 90% of them!!!

If you are a cartoonist and want to surrender yourself to Jordanian Justice:

Why not send them a sample of your work?
We can all wear yellow stars like the Danes did when Nazis roamed the earth.

Hah! No way is that deportation gonna happen.

I suggest the Danes print that cartoon every single darn day in all of their papers, with a different caption every day. I like the one Robert has up ;o) I'd even like to see a billboard.

The UN is shutting down the only group approaching a watchdog to their 'human rights' genocide operation against Israel.

Steyn on trial.

Let's not ignore the possibility of a cartoonist being kidnapped and taken to Jordan in a sack or a diplomatic pouch.

If this wasn't so serious, it would be hilarious.

They wouldn't attempt this, if they didn't think they would get away with it. And that's with anything this enemy pulls. They're getting away with it has been the status quo, and our pathetic leaders haven't done shit to disabuse them of that notion.

Gee, willickers, Batman, and Jordan is a such a 'moderating' influence.

If Jordan is going to be fair and balanced regarding 'blasphemy and threatening national peace' then Jordan should also be calling the Dutch imans that went to the Middle East with TWO ADDITIONAL photos they were shopping to get people upset.

And right after 9/11, instead of summoning ambassadors from:
- Saudi Arabia (his extended-family Bandar-Bush).
- Egypt (annual aid of 2 Bil).
- Jordan (annual aid of 2 Bil).
- Pakistan (Arms & Aid).
Bush does his: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/09/20010917-11.html
Go figure!

I wonder how many non-Jordinian terrorists responsible for the thousands of terrorist attacks in foreign countries in the name of Allah are wanted for blasphemy.

Beagle, your links don't work.

Queen Rania to the front! Where is she blogging for the defense of the cartoonists? Didn't she learn anything about freedom of expression in America?

And where is Oprah with her billion dollar mouth? Doesn't she know the difference between right and wrong?

I wonder if anyone will say, out-loud, that the Danes are under Danish law, and are subject to the Danish authorities, not some arrogant wannabes in Jordan.

Add to that, those cartoons were published in Denmark. No one airdropped them over Jordan. There was no reason for anyone in Jordan ever to catch so much as a glimpse of any of them.

I'm surprised they weren't asked to bring those cartoonists into the Hague. Odds are they'd have a lot of people, including Europeans and Americans, saying yes this is a hate crime against all Muslims and must be answered in the ICC.
Next, it's the Muslim Mickey Mouse (or Ricky Rat) whose creator needs to be hauled before the ICC. Not only a hate crime but copyright infringement. Sauce for the goose....

And to think the King of Jordan had a guest shot on one of the Star Trek's. This is not very enlightened of him or his country. No surprise there, though.

"Osama al-Bettar, the group's lawyer, said that if the Danes do not appear, the next step will be to inform Interpol and seek their arrest...."

Interpol?!?

Bwahahahahaha!

Is it just me, or do I get the feeling these islamonutzees come from a whacky, bizarro, parallel universe where everything is backwards? Where good is bad, where bad is good, and absolutely nothing makes sense at all???

Give me a break.

spit.

porkfatrules,

I want to laugh but what they are asking will actually be given serious consideration in certain countries.
Brigitte Bardot was convicted of a hate crime for speaking out against Islamic practices in France. She was convicted in a FRENCH court.
These guys look at cases like hers and figure they have a right not to be offended.
The irony is they have a right to think that way. We in the West have passed laws that actually criminalized offending certain groups.

Guys;
Ican't stand much more of this crap. Im likeky to start making the kind of comments that might reflect badly on this sight. I'm beginning to side with some of the more aggressive folks on this sight. Keep up the good work Robert but I don't know how much longer I can read it.

Thank you "laughs-at silly-jahidies"
I just posted a comment that I can't stand much more of this xcrap. You gave me a good hearty laugh.

Richard,

I think that attitude is growing among many of us, while we sit here and take it from an undefeated enemy who behaves as if he has any right to demand anything of us. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Jordan, in microcosm, is itself a clarifying statement about the Arab world. This small Arab nation, smaller in size than Ohio, would not exist but for the fact that the West defeated the Central Powers in WWI. The Arabs did virtually nothing to achieve independence AND dignity from Ottoman rule for century upon century. Jordan exists ONLY because of the West, more specifically Britain.

So, why should the West pay any attention to such an artificial construct as Jordan? Jordan should not loom large in the Western mind. In fact, it should not loom at all. It should be looked upon as, at best, a pawn in a chess game that must be won by those who see Islam for what it really is-----a tyranny of the mind, body and spirit. Jordan is a nothing when viewed this way.

The utter arrogance of muslims, muslim nations, is astounding.

And I was told Jordan was a 'moderate' nation. Well, I didn't really think that, but an ex-dhimmi tried to tell me that. And then he was afraid to speak - to me in the USA - about it because he feared for his family back there - like I know who they are and would go tattle tale to a muslim about him! I mean, talking about the 'abused wife syndrome' - it is a real thing.

And these dhimmi flee to our lands and are not willing to do anything to stop the onslaught of islam on our shores - where do they think their children will run to?! And I am not talking about doing anything other than making sure that our government officials start waking up instead of letting the UN tell us what we can and cannot say about islam. It is just disgusting how far over our government 'leaders' will bend to jihadists to tell us not to use the terms.

We have let the MSA run amoke in our Universities and with muslims/CAIR getting our children to 'pray like a muslim' and tell fairy tales about islam in the history books - we need to start stepping up and letting our 'leaders' know this is totally unacceptable. And that goes for any more segregation.

I thought all they could manufacture in Jordan was bone-crushing stupidity, that and whining. In all my years I cannot remember a single item of any kind for sale from Jordan.

Raise your hand if you still think Islam is a religion.

Sorry, you guys from CAIR don't count.

-- from a posting above

Yes, they do -- because Jordan has most favored nation status, and Arabs in Jordan have set up factories, that make clothes, and that horribly exploit - the worst exploitation of workers that investigators from this country have seen -- non-Arab workers who come in and work, and are seldom paid, and then returned to their home countries when they complain. Meanwhile, the Arabs make out like gangbusters, all because the American government wants to "reward Jordan." "Reward" Jordan for what? For not making war on Israel? Jordan doesn't make war on Israel because the IDF would inflict terrible damage on Jordan, and that's the only reason why. The IDF keeps the peace in the Middle East. No peace-processes, no treaties, no thing -- just the IDF keeps the peace.

Here is a posting I put up on Feb. 20, 2008, following an article about Jordanian efforts to prevent missionary work by Christians:

"The Jordanian government prohibits conversion from Islam and the proselytizing of Muslims."
-- from the article above

Thus the Jordanian government interferes with freedom of conscience.

The Jordanian government also prohibits, on pain of death, the sale of land to Jews.

The Jordanian goverment, or rather the "people" of Jordan, who consist of both Western Palestinian western "Palestinians" (that is, the so-called "Palestinians") and Eastern Palestinian western "Palestinians" (that is, the so-called "Jordanians"), are almost completely, and violently, hostile to the United States and to Americans.

Nonetheless, the government of Jordan, and therefore after the ruler and his retinue take their cut off the top, the people in Jordan, do keep receiving, offering in return nothing tangible, and nothing intangible as well, such as the hint of a glint of discernable gratitude, large sums given to them, by the American taxpayers, which taxpayers had no say in the matter, but who, I am sure, if they knew that this antisemitic and anti-Christian and anti-American regime and its people (never mind the smiles of Queen Noor on Ophrah, or the mediagenic wife of Abdullah, or thick-necked Abdullah himself, not a patch on his father in the plucky-little-king department of propaganda), were taking the money and running, that they would demand a Stop Payment on all checks made out to the Government of Jordan. At least one hopes the C.I.A., that used to pay for Hussein's endless supply of call-girls, has stopped that practice.

And then there is the little matter of Jordan's special most-favored-nation status, reflected in those little "Made in Jordan" tags that you can see on clothes (and if you share my sentiments, not only will you not consider buying clothes "made in Jordan" by what turns out to be, non-Arab slave labor, but will cease to buy any clothes, made even outside Jordan, by any manufacturer who produces anything in Jordan). The Arabs who run those factories import non-Arab workers, and subject them to horrific conditions, and often do not even pay them. This has all been written about in The Times, but few seem to follow the story. The "most-favored-nation" status merely allows Arabs in Jordan to behave, toward non-Arabs, just as cruelly as do the rich Arabs in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. All made possible by that "most-favored-nation" status, and those tariff-free textiles, all supposed to create entrepreneurial activity but, in fact, merely leading to cunning exploitation of the system, and of the non-Arab humans who are actually employed, then jettisoned if they dare to complain, to do the work.

Won't someone in Congress raise the matter of labor conditions in those Jordanian factories?

And won't someone in Congress raise the issue of what we get for our money, the money sent to Jordan, as to Pakistan, Egypt, and of course the "Palestinians"? What exactly, in policies that would not have been engaged in otherwise, or in goodwill, have we obtained, or rather, have we bought? Or if we had even managed to rent, temporarily, such goodwill, an argument might be made for the rental. But we have bought nothing for ourselves of value. We have not even rented, temporarily, something of value. We have merely encouraged the Muslim belief that the Infidels are there to be fleeced, and eager, or so it appears from Amerian beahvior, to be so fleeced.

Baah, baah...have you any...etc. Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.

Danes do not appear, the next step will be to inform Interpol and seek their arrest....lol interpol i believe they can only arrest with the consent of the country that they are arresting in the shear arrogance of the muslims in jordan is beyound belief

Islam is crushing freedom of speech not only in Jordan, but increasingly in Europe. Islamic violence and incitements to violence against journalists, cartoonists, teachers, writers, democratic politicians, feminists, you, and me, must be stopped. If necessary, Western governments should use covert force against selected individual Muslims who try to terrorize speech into silence. Ayatollah Khomeini should have been made to disappear, permanently, after he issued the death fatwa against Rushdie merely for writing a novel. There must be a deterrent, and if deterrence is not possible, then crushing the thugs should be.

Can Interpol take care of the Higher Islamic Council of Algeria which is arresting Christians.

Freedom of speech is not a crime in West European nations, dear Jordanians.

So go inform Interpol.

If this sets a precedent of extradition, then you muslims will have to do a lot of extraditions, enough to cause another mass migration in the history of mankind.

Will the Jordanian pubic prosecutor also call up the Muslims who drew the most critical cartoons? you know the ones that brought it back to the ME to show all their people?

We need the Pope to declare crimes against Christianity every time a muslim leader makes a comment, or any time a middle eastern newspaper prints an anti-Christian cartoon, have the Vatican prosecutor issue a summons and then send interpol out to make an arrest. Start with that nut case in Iran.

Jordan is a bit hasty.
Of course mr.Sarkozy and mrs. Merkel have thought it a good idea to allow the 'countries around the mediterranean' a special status in the EU - so that de facto they'll become EU-memberstates - and so it is not at all unthinkable that one day scandivians wìll actually be indicted by arabs for whatever they write or draw or say in their own country, but the arabs still have to practice a little patience, just for a few months...
Until January mr. Westergaard - thank goodness - is still officially a Dane

Considering the fact that even in America a New York-judge thought he actually had to enforce the ruling of an English judge - even though dr. Ehrenfeld was indicted for something which is her constitutional right in her own country, protected by the first amendment; the right of free speech - a new law had to be made to protect her against an arab complainant abroad.
So the jordanians aren't crazy.

In a few months time Europeans wìll actually be handed over by their own people to appear for arabian judges..
