Kuwaiti liberal convicted of "harming Islam" for saying it was spread by the sword

I guess this means it wasn't spread by the sword, eh?

Someday, far in the future, someone will stumble upon a cache of documents, a few dozen old books, a geniza, a stash plastered into a wall, a long-forgotten or overlooked hidden treasury of the forbidden and the banned, and will discover the truth, and the propaganda will shatter.

But right now, it is ascendant everywhere.

Free Speech Death Watch Update: "Kuwaiti Liberal Convicted Of Harming Islam," from MEMRI, June 3 (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):

Kuwaiti liberal Dr. Ahmad Al-Baghdadi has been convicted by a Bahraini court of harming Islam in public, and has been fined $370.

The conviction followed a 2006 article he published in the Bahraini daily Al-Ayyam, in which he said that Islam had spread by means of the sword.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Kuwait said that Al-Baghdadi's punishment was too lenient, and that this leniency would invite additional harm to Islam in the future....

No doubt they want him dead, to prove once and for all that Islam is peaceful.

"No doubt they want him dead, to prove once and for all that Islam is peaceful." --RS

As I've noted before, Islam has no conception of irony.

None whatsoever.

People, send your personal message of whether Islam was spread by the sword or not, right here:

http://www.ikhwanweb.com/ContactUs.asp

Now, if Kuwait has free and fair elections, will that establish democracy in Kuwait, in the sense of allowing individual rights, including free speech? Obviously not, as long as Islam dominates Kuwait, because its intolerant tenets will not allow criticism.
If we really want to have democracy in places like Kuwait, it will be necessary to separate religion and politics, which means that Islam would have to be suppressed.

Well, nothing new here. Speaking the truth about Islam invariably gets a person in trouble, especially in the dar-al-Islam.

It's like some mad looking glass world isn't it.
Truth is lies and lies is truth.

Islam is peaceful tolerant and benign and we'll punish anyone who says different just to prove it, It makes me despair. Well what makes me despair is the Western Politicians who go along with it.
Sigh

"Kuwaiti liberal convicted of "harming Islam" for saying it was spread by the sword"

the court officials said, "shhhhhhhh no one is supposed to know."

Let me get this straight.

They convict those who say Islam is violent, while praising those who are. Mmmmmmmm. And our State Dept. wants to make it even more confusing than it already is.

Just Marvelous.

Islam: The religion of the insecure and the paranoid.

"Everybody is out to get us! Die, die! Kill you all!"

Islam: The cult of lunatics out to protect a long-dead, cult-master and his BS ideology.

"Red Jack! Red Jack! Red Jack!"

Islam: "Join us, you freaking losers of society. We'll turn you into MoBots."

Good grief!

'...harming Islam in public, and has been fined $370.'

PUBLIC is the key word, for these rats understand that if the truth breaks out into the mainstream, it will seriously harm Islam.

And what type of crime, punishment, and fine would he have received had he made the same comment but referenced Christianity?

Nothing would have happened. The goverment would not do a thing.

Which confirms the violence and intollerance when Islam is referenced.

It is not the official punishment, a fine of $370, that matters, but the conviction, and the conviction, of another sort, of many Muslims that when someone says in public something which all Muslims know is true, but that nowadays can be overheard by Infidels and "harm the image of Islam" then that can and should be punished. And Muslims famously have a way of taking the Shari'a into their own hands.

Muhammad took part in 78 campaigns, campaigns in which he took as much of the loot and as many of the women as he cared to (see the Khaybar Oasis, see the Battle of the Trench, see see see), and he was involved in war-making, against those who refused to accept his authority, and his faith, and his "message" as the Seal of the Prophets. Muhammad even lays out rules for war-making and, especially, for the division of the spoils. The idea that Islam was not spread by the sword is undone by the Qur'an and Hadith and especially the Sira. Why, there is even, in addition to the Sira, various collections of Muhammad's campaigns and battles, with the most famous being Al-Waqidi's Kitab al-Maghazi.

And just how did Muslim warriors manage to bring Islam to the rest of Arabia, outside the Hejaz? To Syria, and to Iraq? To Egypt and the rest of North Africa? How did Islam spread in what had been the center of the Byzantine Empire, Anatolia, if not through conquering Muslims, both Seljuk and then Ottoman Turks? How did Islam spread to Iran? How did Mahmoud of Ghazni bring Islam first to India, and how did the later Muslim conquerors do so? Quiet missionaries, of the going-my-way twinkle-in-his-eye spencer-tracy and-fred-macmurray missionary style? Did those Muslims take a year off before or after college to go, in pairs, like Mormons, knocking on doors to see if they could interest anybody in a copy of the Qur'an, and possibly have a nice chat about the wonders of Islam?

For god's sake. How long to the world's Muslims expect to keep from prying Infidel eyes, and eavesdropping ears, knowledge of the history of Islamic conquest?

Forever?

The more they do this sort of thing, the more ridiculous Muslims, and Islam, appear.

So, I suppose we shouldn't object. I suppose we should welcome such farcical behavior.

And since we do not live in such societies, it might be tempting to turn away from the dismal spectacle. But those who challenge the Received Version of Islam deserve admiration, and where possible, support.

No wonder they only learn the Qur'an in Arabic. Too afraid to have the new Muslims learn that "Islam was sheltered under the shadow of the sword'.

Oops. Is there a fine?

"Someday, far in the future, someone will stumble upon a cache of documents, a few dozen old books, a geniza, a stash plastered into a wall, a long-forgotten or overlooked hidden treasury of the forbidden and the banned, and will discover the truth, and the propaganda will shatter."
-- from Robert's comment above

But in fact, those old books that tell the truth about Islam and the history of Islamic conquest, and all the rest of it, can be found right there on the shelves of all major libraries, and students can simply ignore their MESA-Nostra teachers and their tendentious syllabi (you don't think that Omid Safi, and Carl Ernst, and Hamid Dabashi, and Rashid Khalidi, and John Esposito, are going to tell you about these books, do you/ You don't really think they will assign Schacht or Snouck Hurgronje or Lammens or Jeffrey or Tisdall or Zwemer, do you? No, you will have to find them on your own. But you can.

And what is more, these books, or excerpts from them, are now being reprinted. Some of them are even being reprinted in inexpensive editions by publishers in India. And large chunks of them are also being uploaded on to the Internet. And there is nothing that can be done to stop this.

It is fun to write, as Robert did, about these imagined stashes of manuscripts (I enjoyed a while back speculating about a dust-covered Ur-Qur'an hidden away in some Lisbon alfarrabista's backroom) to be discovered in some indeterminate future. But in fact all the material is right there.

Those many studies, by Western scholars of Islam, written during the latter half of the 19th and the first half of the twentieth century, when the Grand Inhibition had not yet set in, are right there, waiting for you on the library shelf or from a publisher in Bangalore or Madras, or a mere click away on the Internet.

All you have to do is know that such scholarly material exists, and then to being clicking away, to order a book, or to find that book on-line.

There is nothing organized Islam can do about this.

Tanstaafl,

You will be severely punished for your comment! Or fined at least $370! HAHAHA!

Seriously, Hugh has once again outdone himself in explaining the lunacy and stupidity of the islamic cult. But he said this very important gem:

So, I suppose we shouldn't object. I suppose we should welcome such farcical behavior.

Precisely. The more light that falls on these cockroaches, the more frightened, and defensive, they become.

Hugh says,

And what is more, these books, or excerpts from them, are now being reprinted. Some of them are even being reprinted in inexpensive editions by publishers in India. And large chunks of them are also being uploaded on to the Internet. And there is nothing that can be done to stop this.

Of course, you are absolutely correct.

Thank goodness, and thank the web.

So, which is the MOST farcical, Muslims doing what they do – or our very own Dihimi leaders that trip all over themselves, to make a public show, of just how SINCERELY they believe these very same, lying Muslims.

Again, which is MOST ridiculous, Muslims promulgating a lie so transparent that a child could see through it – or virtually THE ENTIRE LEADERSHIP of the West proclaiming how magnificent and exquisite are the Emperors new clothes!

One uproarious and grand comedy it is!!

Kuwaiti liberal convicted of "harming Islam" for saying it was spread by the sword

Sounds reasonable. Truth hurts.

Fined?....fined $370? ...for "harming izlame?" Heck, I thought the minimum penalty..you know..for jaywalking was dismemberment and/or blinding. This is how crime gets out of control..these slaps on the wrists for criminals.

Can there ever be a true account recorded for all to see of the truth of islamic conquest and its brutality? I can only pray...

"Kuwaiti liberal convicted of "harming Islam" for saying it was spread by the sword"

Lying is the bread and butter of Islam. It started with Muhammad, and it continues to this day.

Without the lie, Islam is a house of cards. That's why any honest scrutiny of Islam cannot be tolerated, That's why any honest critique of Islam must be crushed and the messenger must die.

Whether it's a cartoonist, historian or newspaper columnist, they must all be silenced, without debate or argument. The carefully constructed edifice of lies must be protected at all cost.

The last thing the Islamic world can tolerate without crumbling is truth. Dr. Al-Baghdadi's crime isn't that he lied about Islam. His crime is that he told the truth. He committed the unpardonable sin.

Well said, - rational. Without the sword, Islam would have been stillborn.

It is very true that Islam was spread by the sword.

That, and other unflattering facts of Islam, we will spread, by the word.

Great summation, rational!

Isn't this just a case of "monkey see monkey do"?
The Muslims in power see what their brothers in the West are able to do to shut down fact-based discussion of Islam, and they want to get in on the action.
In the West, ignorance is a factor, but in Muslim countries everyone knows Islam's violent history from the days of Mohammed to the present. It's just a matter of wanting to use all of the weapons available to advance the cause.
If we don't demand freedom of speech over here, why should they?

Sometimes, it gets to be too much and I begin to have an idea how Howard Beale felt, which is where my latest Pigman piece takes off....

"Can there ever be a true account recorded for all to see of the truth of islamic conquest and its brutality? I can only pray...

Islam is a fragile child prone to temper tantrums. Overall quite harmless is many westerner minds.
