Honest, Nouri, no whoopie cushion this time, I promise
Even as Iraq prepares to sign a security arrangement with the U.S., Maliki assures Ahmadinejad that Iraq will not be a base for an operation against Iran, and says he wants closer ties between the two states. Is the creation of an Iranian client state in Iraq proceeding apace?
"Iraq pledges closer ties with Iran," by Ashraf Khalil for the Los Angeles Times, June 9 (thanks to Andrew Bostom):
BAGHDAD -- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, in a visit to Iran where he met Sunday with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, pledged closer ties between the two neighbors at the same time Baghdad is negotiating a long-term security agreement with the U.S.The proposed pact with Washington would establish a legal framework for the continued presence of U.S. troops in Iraq after the United Nations mandate expires at the end of this year.
Iranian officials have repeatedly expressed concerns in recent weeks that the agreement would simply formalize the presence of dozens of American military bases.
In a round-table public affairs program broadcast on Iranian television, one panelist compared American bases in Iraq to the installation of Russian missiles in Cuba during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
But Maliki, after his meeting with Ahmadinejad, said the U.S. agreement would help maintain and enhance Iraq's security situation, which remains fragile.
"A stable Iraq will be a benefit to the security of the region and the world," Maliki said, according to Ahmadinejad's official website.
The Iranian leader, however, indicated concerns that an agreement could lead to long-term American domination of Iraq.
"Iraq must reach a certain level of stability," he said, according to an Associated Press report, "so that its enemies are not able to impose their influence."
Maliki, after arriving in Tehran on Saturday, had said his government would "not allow Iraq to become a platform for harming the security of Iran," the semiofficial Fars News Agency reported....
Maliki knows Iranians are worried about US military prescence, so he is praticing muslim taquia, he l am sure rather use Ameri. miliary than is own who would kill him in a nano secound.
Maliki is still in camp Crusader as you can see his wonderful suit and tie! while looking at the nut job from iran, sans tie. lol
"Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, in a visit to Iran where he met Sunday with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, pledged closer ties between the two neighbors..."
Hey, speaking of ties--I wonder if there's a mailing address for Mr. Ahmadinejad. We could send him some. We could send him a lot of them...
"The Iranian leader, however, indicated concerns that an agreement could lead to long-term American domination of Iraq.
As opposed to a long-term Iranian domination of Iraq.
One wears a tie, one doesn't.
Why do they have English, the language of Satan and his minions, written on their maps behind them?
his government would "not allow Iraq to become a platform for harming the security of Iran,"
Clearly Maliki sees no threat from Iran. Who else will threaten Iraq's security?
So why does a single American need to be there?
/sarc on
President Obama, where are you?
/sarc off
Look at Maliki's submissive posture, and he is looking down in the presence of greatness. Sometimes body language tells the true story...
Next time, just bomb from the air until they stop causing trouble.
Or moving.
(Whichever comes first.)
How much money do we send these nut-jobs?

Not enough apparently. Beasty Boy Ahmadinijad, continues to dress in thrift store cloths, and Maliki's suit in the picture looks like it came from
a yard sale. The mullah's though seem to be rolling in dough as far as cloths are concerned, fine threads, expensive fabrics, probably hand made.
Now 'they' know how to dress...We could confuse the heck out of them if many infidels started dressing as well off Imams do. As a fashion statement there is an attraction to Islamic head gear, and dramatic flowing robes. And sunglasses, expensive ones, to be worn even at night. The eyes are the windows of the soul, nobody should be looking in there. That's why Maliki is looking down in the photo...These guys never engage in direct eye contact...
I doubt more jizya would help with the eye contact problem, but it might allow Beasty and Maliki to dress better.
Those who think that our military presence in iraq has iran just where we want them, should re-think their position in light both of this statement by maliki that he will "not allow iraq to become a platform for harming the security of iran," and of a recent article by David Ignatius about iranian general soleimani.
http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id=1&categ_id=5&article_id=92839
For me, our true impotence in iraq w/r/t iran is evident in the following excerpt:
"Soleimani's opportunism was evident during the heavy shelling of the Green Zone in March [of 2008]. The Iranians had supplied their Mehdi Army allies in Sadr City with very powerful 240 mm rockets and mortars, and they had bracketed their targets in the Green Zone so precisely that US casualties were rising sharply.
"After a particularly heavy day of shelling, Genral David Petraeus sent Soleimani a message - 'Stop shooting at the Green Zone.' The message was conveyed verbally by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. The Quds Force commander didn't react immediately. But the heavy mortar fire on the Green Zone soon tapered off. Iran had flexed its muscles and demonstrated America's vulnerability, and then opted for a tactical retreat."
The position of our military in iraq is such that our response to a deadly attack on our troops in the Green Zone is not the elimination of an iranian battalion, but a plea to stop shooting at us.
So, do you still want to make the case that we have iran just where we want them?
Now you see why Obama will get elected? I never said I supported him, but you would have to be a complete GOP homer not to see why the average American wants out of Iraq. It is called common sense!
If Obama gets elected, the people who continued this we must stay in “Iraq until hell freezes over” (hell freezes over = western democracy in an Islamic country) need only to look into the mirror as to why this occurred. There is always a price for failure. That is life…..
How many people thought Bill Clinton would bring US troops home from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait? It didn't happen. The pacifist Democrats discovered their inner hawks.
Campaign rhetoric is just that - rhetoric.
I have only one reason not to vote for Obama - I don't trust him.
duh swami
I saw what you saw.
Maliki looks like a big awkward kid who's been hauled onto the carpet in the headmaster's study and is expecting a bawling-out and possibly a caning.
BTW - somewhere way back in the archives there is a picture of Ahmadinejad holding hands/ shaking hands with Maliki while someone else looks on. Maliki doesn't look happy in it, at all, at all; in fact, to me his body language was shouting 'somebody get me the hell out here already! Help!'.
