Ignoring the theological element of al Qaeda and other Muslim jihadis is beyond contempt. Yes, citing their religion as the reason for their hatred may insult some moderate Muslims. However, these same moderate Muslims are not insulted by the use of a young and impressionable boy for murder, so just how angry can they really be?
The message we're supposed to infer: He realizes the horrible mistake he almost made.
The reality: He realizes he has been cheated by the filthy kufirs of his chance to be sitting at the right hand side of Allah sipping wine that does not make him tipsy, and having sex over and over and over and over with virginal nymphomaniacs.
The message we're supposed to infer: He regrets having tried it, is grateful to the benevolent Westerners who stopped him, and if released, would actively try to steer future young jihadis away from the few extremist militants who have twisted the Religion of Peace into something it's not.
The reality: He is ashamed and embarrassed that the filthy kufirs were able to stop him, and is fearful of what the ramifications will be to his family's honor. If released, he will immediately resume his spiritual calling to carry out the will of Allah by killing non-believers. His martyr operation may need to be larger the next time, to make up for the dishonor of not successfully carrying out this one.

Fostering and encouraging suicide bombing, for whatever reason (and we all know the culprit here) should be made a universal war crime. Maybe the pathetic UN could finally do something right and address this issue with vigor (but they won't).

Most secularists and many Christians in the West make the mistake in thinking that religion does not matter. Most place religion on the level of soccer or art classes; ie its a nice thing that people optionally do if it works for them.
Religion is not a hobby in most of the world (and can not be for Christians if listen to what Jesus says) and secularists continually interpret the actions of Muslims from this secularist perspective. They think religion can't be the motivator since religion is a sub-set of politics. It is an overlay of a larger political issue (usually a Marxist class stuggle interpretation).
