"Terrorists, with beards and long hair" possibly identified as members of that moribund organization that is on its last legs and repudiated everywhere by all Muslims.
"Turkey: Possible al-Qaeda link to US consulate attack," from AKI, July 10 (thanks to C.C.):
Istanbul, 10 July (AKI) - While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the US consulate in Istanbul, there is growing speculation that al-Qaeda was behind the shootings.Turkish security sources told local media that all three assailants were from eastern Turkey and were suspected of being members of a group linked to al-Qaeda.
Three policemen and three gunmen died in a gun battle outside the US consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Wednesday....
While no staff were injured inside the consulate, the US ambassador to Turkey condemned the attack as an "act of terrorism" and US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said he could not rule out suspicions that al-Qaeda was behind the attack....
According to the Hurriyet newspaper, Wednesday's attack may have been to avenge the death of an al-Qaeda militant reportedly killed in Afghanistan by a US bombing.
The al-Qaeda militant and two of the three dead consulate assailants are from the same southeastern province in Turkey.
An official told Hurriyet that the three gunmen who were killed in the attack had only recently returned to Turkey after a period of time in Afghanistan. This has led to speculation that they may have received training at an al-Qaeda camp.
The official also added that the assailants were members of a Turkish Sunni Islamic fundamentalist group, known as the Great Eastern Islamic Raiders Front, or IBDA-C.
Istanbul police raided a number of addresses across the city and reportedly seized documents related to al- Qaeda.
And here I was thinking they might be Amish....
OT, an interesting article in The Evening Standard:
Asylum gang made £200,000 in crash scam
Justin Davenport and Rob Singh
10.07.08
A gang of asylum seekers made £200,000 by faking insurance claims for car crashes.
The seven men, including Iraqi and Kuwaiti nationals who claimed they had been tortured in their homelands, submitted more than 50 bogus claims before they were detected.
All the men were either friends or relatives and five have since become British citizens.....
Police found evidence that some of the gang were also claiming disability allowances because of their treatment in Iraq and Kuwait.
They had claimed that they had suffered torture and were receiving medication and treatment for depression as a result.
The gang were Nasser Fahad Al Fadhly, 35, who was formerly Nasser Fahad Al Ameri; Razi Kreedy, 31, formerly Kazi Al Ameri; Duab Zamel Albadry, 26; Nasser Mihthaf Alfadhly, 37, formerly known as Nasser Fadel; Lafy Al Dafhery, 34; Ahmed Rahim, 29 and Khaled Atek Alfadli, 30.

If they can't kill us all, they'll just bankrupt us to death.
And why would Turks travel to Afghanistan EXCEPT to spend time in a terrorist training camp or, perhaps, as couriers in the opium trade? Turkey isn't part of the war effort, is it?
"Istanbul police raided a number of addresses across the city and reportedly seized documents related to al- Qaeda."
This al-qaeda is beginning to sound like a multibillion dollar corporation. Everywhere in the world police find "documents related to al-qaeda". These people must be very methodical in their ways, filling out forms in triplicates and such for the police of a dozen nations to find "documents related to al-qaeda".
ImNoDhimmi, that's a good question--Turkey is a NATO member, how do they support NATO's mission in Afghanistan?
Sorry; I meant PMK.
