As weapons stream into Gaza, Olmert says of truce: "I fear that a reality is being created in the south, which, in five years we'll be asking ourselves - How could we let this happen?"

Would an aide kindly lean over to Olmert and whisper in his ear: "Mr. Olmert, you're the head of this government"?

"'Large amount of weapons and explosives flowing into Gaza'," from the Jerusalem Post and Associated Press, July 26:

Hamas has smuggled four tons of explosives, 50 anti-aircraft missiles, dozens of Kalashnikov rifles and materials used to produce rockets into the Gaza Strip since the inception of the cease-fire, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Yuval Diskin said Sunday at the weekly cabinet meeting.

That shouldn't be at all surprising, at least when one pays attention to Islamic doctrine and tradition on truces.

According to Diskin, Hamas has also taken control of all smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt, and cement being brought into Gaza was intended for construction of bunkers.
The Shin Bet head added that the recent prisoner exchange with Hizbullah had encouraged various Palestinian groups to attempt carrying out abductions.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on the truce that "I fear that a reality is being created in the south, which, in five years we'll be asking ourselves - How could we let this happen?"
But Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the "balance" was so far a positive one. "The calm was intended to give [us] a timeout which we would do well to take advantage off," he said.
According to a government official, Barak said Hamas was doing more than expected to prevent truce violations by smaller terrorist groups. He said Israel was correct not to retaliate for sporadic mortar and rocket attacks from Gaza during the truce.
However the official quoted Barak as telling the cabinet on Sunday that Israel's "lack of response so far does not mean there is anything to stop us taking action when we decide we should."
During the same meeting, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke of the shaky Gaza cease-fire, telling the cabinet that "Israel needs to respond to truce violations, fire against fire."
"Israel's response needs to give the message that we won't accept fire, regardless of which organization it comes from," she went on.
Livni added that opening the Rafah crossing would strengthen Hamas and as such must be connected to the issue of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, in conjunction with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' forces.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on the truce that "I fear that a reality is being created in the south, which, in five years we'll be asking ourselves - How could we let this happen?"

Has Olmert been sleeping all this time? Didn't the aftermath of the Israeli withdrawals from Gaza and Lebanon give him a clue about what to expect?

Hint: it wasn't peace and prosperity and peaceful coexistence with Muslims on Israel's borders.

PMK, I agree. Where's he BEEN all this time?? Oh right, counting his bribes.

An unbelievable statement!

Olmert is very confused, and very mediocre. He somehow just can't quite grasp, perhaps can't allow himself to grasp, what he has a duty to know, and to share with those whose lives depend on their government's leaders understanding -- which is the source, and therefore the nature, of Arab and Muslim hostility -- murderous and mind-distorting hostility -- to the state of Israel.

He does not make Israel's case. He does not correct errors, in the minds of allies such as the United States, about the history, cause, and therefore likely duration -- forever, but a manageable forever -- of the conflict. He may have forgotten the history of the area, or may be one of those who, like Ms. Livni, so enjoys his own personal history as "the child of Revisionists who has become realistic by abandoning what parents and grandparents believed in" (when, in fact, though even Jabotinsky did not understand Islam, he did understand that "the Arabs" would never willingly accept the Jews, or acquiesce in the existence of a Jewish nation-state -- Islam was simply too weak at the time, and for those who, like Jabotinsky, were preoccupied with defending Jews from Arab attack (starting in Jabotinsky's case with the Jews of the Old City who were attacked in 1920) in Mandatory Palestine, or rescuing them from Europe (rescue efforts that in the 1930s became more frantic, and culminated, perhaps, in a speech by Jabotinsky given in Warsaw in 1938, when he warned the Jews that they should all get out, because otherwise they would all be killed), there was no time to study Islam.

The life-histories of Livni and Olmert are of interest to others only insofar as their psychic journeys, and their pride in their abandonment of what they regard as the "foolish certainties" of their parents and grandparents, have led them to confusion, and far greater distancing from realism, from understanding the nature and sources of the Jihad being waged against Israel, means that they are dangerous to the wellbeing of the state. And they are. For though their parents and grandparents may have been innocent of Islam, they at least had a solid sense of the legal, moral, and historic claims of the Jews to the Land of Israel -- at the very least, to all of Western Palestine -- and, furthermore, they understood, even without having investigated Islam, that for some reason the Arabs would never accept a Jewish state, never except Jews unless they continued in the role of permanently humiliatied, degraded, and insecure dhimmis. And that, the Zionist pioneers were certainly unwilling -- unable -- to do.

Olmert must go. But so must Livni, and so must all those who presume to protect and instruct the people of Israel, but simply cannot figure out, cannot comprehend, what is going on. And will go on.

"According to Diskin, Hamas has also taken control of all smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt, and cement being brought into Gaza was intended for construction of bunkers"

oh those tunnels!...the ones Egypt is not really looking for or destroying....afterall how hard is it to spot cement trucks? or cargo trucks carrying tons of cement bags, not to mention missiles or tons of rockets and other munitions?...

Egypt loves it when the Palestinians attacks Israel...

Egypt may claim they are trying to stop the flow of weapons and munition crossing from Egypt into Gaza....but we know better...

The sooner Israel dumps this Olmert buffoon, the better it will be...

Another MidEast War is brewing and Egypt is festering the wounds...

I just don't get Olmert (Livni too). He comes across as a parody of a leader of a nation surrounded by other nations and organizations that hate it. You couldn't make this guy up. Truth again is stranger than fiction. In any case, it's only a matter of time before things blow up in Gaza and on Israel's northern border. When that happens, I hope for Israel's sake Olmert is no longer at the top of the greasy pole.

MISTER SPENCER I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I FIND THIS THE MOST IMPORTANT WEB SITE OR NEWS INFORMATION IN THE WORLD.
IN COMBINATION WITH THE SITES ON THE SIDE OF YOUR WEB PAGE WE CAN SEE WHAT OUR NEWS MEDIA LIES ABOUT AND OUR GOVERMENT HIDES THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR.
AS TO THIS STORY NOT ONLY HAS OLMERT HIDEING BRIBERY BUT EVERY SINGLE POLITICIAN IN HIGH OFFICE IN OUR COUNTRY WE NEED FOR OUR CHILDREN TO SHED THESE LEECHES WHO BASICALLY HAVE NO CONSCIENCE OR SOUL TO THE PLIGHT OF THE ORDINARY AMERICAN NOTHING CHANGES TILL WE SAY NO MORE THANK YOU .

If news broke out that Olmert's a closet convert to Islam, I think that along with the shock would be the feeling, 'Of course!'

I wrote this about him a short while back:

To me, this says it all about Ehud Omert, the Dhimmi Qarter of Israel. The pathetic politician actually said this shortly before becoming Israel's Prime Minister, on behalf of his countrymen:

“We are tired of fighting, we are tired of being courageous, we are tired of winning, we are tired of defeating our enemies.”

This man is a clear and present danger to Israel and should be stripped of power asap. It's one thing for a powerless, cowardly lefty to express this kind of resignation on the street, but for a leader of a country at war for 50+ years, it's bizarro world.

Here's the flip side of Olmert's determination to be No worse enemy to his friends and No better friend to his enemies.

Olmert's statement is akin to someone rising from a dream. "In five years we'll be asking ourselves..."

But you need to ask today, not in 5 years. Is the importation of weaponry a violation of the cease fire? If so, what will you do? What is the benefit of the "time out" that Barak lauds?

Does anyone understand these people? Or are they unable to proceed because the Bush administration is turning its back ...

If you'll go back and check, Debkafile says Bush was furious with Olmert & Co. for not going all out against Hezbollah in the 2nd Lebanon War. Condi could have run around and gone 'tut-tut-tut ...excessive force' while secretly the whole free world could secretly admire and be relieved at a much needed blow to Iran. Remember this: ISRAEL WAS DEFEATED BY A FEW THOUSAND TERRORISTS. How can Bush and America support Israel when Israel doesn't support Israel?

During his last visit, Bush actually stated that Hamas should step aside in Gaza to make way for Fatah. Fat chance of that happening. He also pointed at Olmert and said something like "Take good care of this guy.". Olmert is his patsy.
The administration likes Olmert because he endorses their quick-fix peace goal with Abbas, and he has taken a passive role in the turning over of the Gaza checkpoints to third party forces, as urged by Rice, much to the detriment of Israel. Plus, Olmert still clings to the Roadmap nonsense. Alleged violations of the Roadmap's settlement freeze just provides the Arabs with one more excuse for war.
The administration has become very letfwing in its approach, guided by Rice and a president who often seems overwhelmed by events. If Obama gets in, he'll just continue in the same vein.

HAMAS is obviously going to dig into concrete fortified bunkers and fire rockets and missiles at the Israelis. Emulating Hizbolla

And if this HAMAS war comes in say three years, and the Iranians have nukes, Iran will threaten Israel when Israel starts retaliating against HAMAS

The same will apply to a future HIZBOLLAH war or more likely a war that HAMAS and HIZBOLLAH start together along with SYRIA
IRAN will provide the nuclear umbrella for this aggression

jewdog, you wrote: "During his last visit, Bush actually stated that Hamas should step aside in Gaza to make way for Fatah. Fat chance of that happening. He also pointed at Olmert and said something like "Take good care of this guy.". Olmert is his patsy.

Well put. I agree with you. President Bush makes this distinction between Fatah jihadists and Hamas jihadists. Both are jihadists, bent on the destruction of Israel. Only their tactics differ. Bush, McCain, and Obama make this distinction between good and bad jihadists.

Seems to me, the difficulty is, no matter who occupies the White, the president will look for a "patsy" as you put it. Barack Obama wants a patsy and so does John McCain. What bothers me as a Republican is the fact that my party is looking for patsies at the helm in Israel rather than men who will fight the jihadists.

Olmert is, next to Jimmy Catta or Algore, one of the most useless counterproductive so called public servants in history.

Israel is in bad need of its own Batman.

Leaders with vision and courage are kinda rare nowadays.

How does this fool believe he has five years ?

Israeli elections cant be soon enough to boot these scumbags out of office.

Five years? Im asking how could this happen right now.

poetcomic1 says, "How can Bush and America support Israel when Israel doesn't support Israel?"

Even powers that are well-disposed to Israel can't be more Zionist than the Zionists. It is sometimes said that the moments of greatest pressure on Israel come when Israel is most set back on its heels. Success breeds respect.

Hard to know how Israel can succeed in the face of a financially strong and determined enemy. But she can't become a normal state -- without constant threat and war and bloodshed -- unless she is feared.

Look on the bright side.

The whole of jihad fortress Gaza is becoming one vast arms dump, packed from attic to basement with bombs, explosives, shells, bullets, and every possible kind of thing that goes 'boom!'. I'll bet Hamas has fuel dumps squirrelled away as well.

Pretty soon, all it will take is for someone to light a match and accidentally drop it in the wrong place and...kabooom! The 'work accident' to end all 'work accidents'.

(Take note, IDF, IAF).

as a comedian, Olmert is a failure.

"The calm was intended to give [us] a timeout which we would do well to take advantage off"

How? While Hamas builds up its stock of weapons, in what way can this "timeout" possibly benefit Israel?

The same way, Bush sells-out America: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/09/20010917-11.html

Olmert must be executed for treason, and then a government that has the stomach to do what is necessary needs to arise from the ashes. Of course, in Israeli politics it will really mean just another corrupt sellout takes over and continues the same crap.

What must be done was in this weeks Torah reading: Hashem spoke unto Moses, saying: "Take vengeance for the Children of Israel against the Mideanites."

Modern translation: God implored the leaders of Israel: "Take vengeance for the Jewish people against the Moslems."

Mad Zionist

Would an aide kindly lean over to Olmert and whisper in his ear: "Mr. Olmert, you're the head of this government"?

No, someone needs to scream in the ear of the Israeli people, "Wake the hell up! You're government has been hijacked by a clique of crooks, sell-outs and incompetent fools and they're going to destroy your country if you don't go into the streets and force them out!"

This should be seen by as many people as possible. I am putting it here, and elsewhere, hoping that many will see it, and many will send it on, so it may spread throughout the Internet:

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1821.htm

Does HAMAS expend any of its efforts, or make use of any budget or contacts it may have, to actually govern the Gaza Strip? Do they do anything at all to improve the lives of the people there? They insisted on taking responsibility for the place, but their idea of running it appears to be confined to stockpiling arms and attempting to kill defenceless civilians.

One gets the impression that HAMAS is determined not to treat Gaza as anything permanent, preferring to sell their people's souls to the phantom of a "war" effort (read: target the defenceless) that is supposed to give them all of Palestine, and by doing so they succeed in rendering Gaza impoverished, miserable, and...permanent. Better could be done for the people there, but perhaps they too live in this unreal "we will chase the Crusaders out" dream world? A weird, immitigable loop.

During the same meeting, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke of the shaky Gaza cease-fire, telling the cabinet that "Israel needs to respond to truce violations, fire against fire."

Not even close. You need to use overwhelming force to make the fire stop. Getting sucked into Arab tribalthink of tit-for-tat violence is idiotic.
