Three policemen and three unidentified gunmen have been killed during a 15-minute gun battle at the United States consulate in Istanbul.Three gunmen stormed a guard post near the main entrance of the high-walled compound, reportedly shooting a Turkish police officer in the head.
A full-scale gun battle then erupted at the heavily-guarded compound, ending in the deaths of the three assailants. The city’s governor, Muammer Guler, said a police officer had died at the scene while two others died of their wounds soon after in hospital....
Witness Yavuz Erkut Yuksel said the attackers emerged from a white vehicle and surprised the officer at the guard post. “One of them approached a policeman while hiding his gun and shot him in the head,” he said.
Another witness described the attackers as “terrorists, with beards and long hair.”...

All western societies should close the ones they have in these places and force them various provincial governments of the Ummah to send emissaries to our country to bow and scrap before us for any more foreign aid, which we'll immediately reject.

The eye witness story seem contrived or to inside? He would to have been looking right at them according to his statements. Now this maybe the case but it later says he was there to get a visa. I don't know if he was just walking up to the guard gate right behind the attackers or he was coming from the consulate. People are usually not paying that much attention to see how the first shot was fired. Maybe wrong but one wonders.
It just seems like he might have been number five of the fighters of Allah. IMO they are all guilty if they call themselves Muslims. We know nothing will come of this other than what has been said by the government of Turkey or the US (Condi).
It's always an expression of "deep regret" when it should be an expression of outrage that such cowardly behavior has taken place and will be dealt with swiftly and completely so that the perpetrators will never be able to repeat and others will be afraid to do so. And under no circumstances will the perpetrators and their state/govt supporters get a pass because they're Muslim.
Close the consulate. No more visas for those in occupied Constantinople.

I agree completely. Expressions of "deep regret" should be used when you hear of someone's hitting a patch of black ice on a wintry road, or suddenly developing leukemia--things that may be very painful, but are no one's fault.
When you are talking about the results of a vicious, deliberate attack, where is the righteous anger? You hear this all the time, where an act of savagery is treated pretty much like a natural disaster. It's as though some people consider it almost embarrasing or unseemly to actually hold anyone responsible for any evil, no matter how calculated it is.

With this consulate attack today, and the embassy bombing in Kabul the day beforeyesterday, (for which the Taliban denied responsibility), I can't help but speculate about possible coordination.
And I hope there aren't other targets on the list, particularly if the presumed al-Qaeda connection holds up, as high-visibility, serial attacks are well-established AQ calling (or rather, bombing) cards.
I hope I'm wrong.
