A popular Hamas children's television program shows a giant bunny character who is lured into stealing money — and then is sentenced by a child host to have his hand chopped off.
In the July 11 installment of "The Pioneers of Tomorrow," which aired on Al-Aqsa TV, the recurring character "Assud the Bunny" creeps away from his napping father with a handful of cash. Assud begins to second-guess his decision to steal his father's money, but Satan successfully encourages him to go through with the petty theft.
Assud then discusses his "crime" with child TV host Saraa, and a young girl is heard saying, "The Prophet Muhammad said: 'If my daughter Fatima had stolen, I would have chopped off her hand. If you were in Saudi Arabia now, they would chop off your hand.'"
A heated debate follows between Saraa and two young viewers, who discuss whether Assud deserves to have his hand chopped off. (Under strict Sharia law, a person caught stealing is subject to having his hand amputated.)
In the end, Assud vows never to repeat his sin and pleads with his young counterparts until they consider his repentance, according to The Middle East Media Research Institute, a media monitoring group that provided a translation of the show.
Luckily, Saraa has just the right compromise to resolve the conflict.

While such children's programs are considered shocking for U.S. audiences, they are widespread and popular in Arabic culture. Other characters on the network have included a "Farfour the Mouse," a militant Mickey Mouse look-alike who martyrs himself fighting Israel, and "Nahoul the Bee," designed to inspire future homicide bombers....

What angered me about the coverage, besides the fact that they diidn't mention where the idea for those punishments come from (i.e. any mention of Islamic sources or sanction for amputations), was that the vile Jew hatred, anti-American indoctrination and incitement to "martyrdom" that takes place on a regular basis on Palestinian children's TV programs wasn't as interesting to CNN as this latest clip.
I'm glad that Hamas TV is being exposed for the evil that it is. But somehow the daily incitement to jihad against Israel, celebration of anti-Jewish violence and the demonization of Jews is more disturbing to me than the "shocking" endorsement of amputations for stealing. The CNN producers thought otherwise.

Our society does not cut the hands off of theives. In roman times a thief could be crucified, remember that when they crucified Jesus there were two theives also being crucified that day.
To cut off a theifs hands is probably more humane than crucifying them, but the transformative gospel of Christ tells the thief to steal no more, but to work with their hands that which is good, so they will have something to give to those in need.
When I was a child, we lived a block away from a store, a friend told us that we could put an ice cream bar under our shirts and walk out without paying, so me and my brother did and were sitting on the porch eating it, when my mother came out and found us.
she knew we had no money and no answer when she asked us where we got the ice cream, being a theif is one thing, being a liar is another.
So she took us back to the store and made us apologize to the store manager for stealing.
The store manager put us to work for the afternoon to pay for the ice cream bars, helping customers carry home their groceries. We soon found out that we did not have to steal, instead using a wagon we could haul groceries and make money.
The command in the decalogue says thou shalt not steal, but the spirit of the law is to give to others, when we follow the spirit of the law, life is enriched.
Chopping off hands is a step up from crucifying theives, but it makes society poorer and does nothing to actually help others.
The thief with no hands can no longer steal, but he also cannot use his hands to help people.

Here's one of my favorite stories about the incredible stupidity of Jihadists. A few years ago a wag created a site called "Bert is Evil". Instead of showing Bert with his friend Ernie, it had mocked-up "candid shots" of a rather sinister-looking Bert with Hitler, Bert with Mussolini, and Bert with--Osama bin Laden. It was just a goof--no one was supposed to take any of this seriously.
Well, some pro-Jihadist moron downloaded the image of the great "Sheik bin Laden" from the internet, apparently without noticing that he was accompanied by an odd yellow muppet.
So, at a pro-bin Laden demonstration in Bangladesh, there are these great images of these typically angry protesting Muslims, unwittingly holding up gag signs of their hero with a Sesame Street character.
The only down side was that the poor creator of the site had to lay low for awhile, in fear that some humorless Imam was going to hit him with a fatwa.
What a bunch of jibronis!
