(IsraelNN.com) A professor at Hebrew University wants to allow a convicted Arab terrorist who stole bomb-making materials from his chemistry lab to be allowed back to the lab, Channel 2 TV reported Sunday.Six years ago, 160 liters of acetone – a chemical which is used for making the common explosive acetone peroxide – disappeared from the Laboratory for Medicinal Chemistry at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The theft led to an investigation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), which in turn led to the arrest of Adel Hadmi, a doctoral student at the laboratory.
According to Channel 2, Hadmi was convicted of being a member of a terror cell that planned suicide attacks against Israelis. In addition, he recruited other Arabs to the cell. He was convicted and jailed but is now free again, and would like to complete his doctoral studies in the very same laboratory the acetone was stolen from.
Prof. Goldblum thinks otherwise
The laboratory's previous director, Prof. Avi Domb, adamantly vetoed the idea of Hadmi's return, but his successor, Prof. Amiram Goldblum, thinks otherwise. Goldblum, one of the founders of radical leftist group "Peace Now," said that the university has no grounds to refuse to readmit Hadmi and allow him to finish his doctorate, because he has already been punished and served his jail sentence. Last week, the lab's students were told to free a table in the lab for Hadmi....
I would hope the University and government officals have their heads on a little tighter than the traitor Prof. Amiram Goldblum. Every nation has these traitors; Britain had Lord Ha Ha, Norway Quisling, we had Benedict Arnold and a whole lot of little Benedict Arnolds running around now. Prof. Goldlum should lose his coveted tenure position. There are many other deserving people who are, unlike Goldblumwith his moral preening, not endlessly cruel to their fellow citizens (by his act he so needlessly causes them so much extra and unnecessary anxiety), and not criminallly insane.

"metumtam...timtum" -- please explain. These words, made-up or real, sound as they wre menat to be comic. They could be useful, but I need to know 1) if they are real and 2) if so, what they mean. And what does the last phrase mean?
I can't wait to drop a "metumtam" into a piece, but not before knowing what it means. Maybe crazy, meshuganneh? Perhaps I missed a Seinfeld episode, or a performance by Henny Youngman, hat would have better prepared me.
I'm sitting here stunned. For a nation (Israel) that's so thoroughly security conscious, and severely blooded for its lapses, this is mind boggling!

Puzzling that the University's 'Admissions' dept. has no authority to exclude this convicted terrorist, or if they do, that they aren't exercising it?
My late Mom grew up on a hardscrabble farm and never finished high school. She was a practical woman with a lot of common sense. Her term for folks like Professor Goldblum was "book fool".

Goldblum is not so much metumtam [מטומטם ] [= foolish] as he is a liar. I once had an unfriendly chat with him years at a demonstration. He claimed that no intelligent, educated people could be for the Whole Land of Israel [or similar argument]. I countered that Prof Yuval Ne'eman, a nuclear physicist, was for the Whole Land of Israel. Then Goldblum told me, "I am a nuclear physicist." This lie was really unnecessary. After all, a chemist is respectable too. So why did he tell that lie?? Probably because in his mind nuclear physicists had more prestige than mere chemists. And Ne'eman was very prestigious in his field, outside of Israel too. And also, Goldblum wanted to put me down. That's the kind of nasty, dishonest person who fills the ranks of the Israeli "peace camp."

Did anyone notice the bit in the original article about how the University was going to maintain security by not letting him near "dangerous materials"? Whoever said that knows nothing about chemistry. You simply can't do chemistry without "dangerous materials". The chemical that Hadmi stole for use in bomb-making, acetone, is not some sort of esoteric substance used only in specialized research, it is a common solvent present in every laboratory. This is like hiring a slasher to work in a kitchen and saying you'll keep him away from knives.
billposer; you certainly don't need to go anywhere near a univ. lab to get hold of acetone in quantity. Every paint store sells it, my fibreglass wholesaler sells it in 20 litre buckets.
Same for most aromatic solvents; they are getting harder to find mind you.
It may well be that the Israelis are much more security conscious than we are however.

In academia.. common sense will get you nowhere.
It is clear to me that few of your readers have an intelligence background. To those who do not, I would refer you to two books, "The Double Cross System," and "Bodyguard of Lies." Suffice it to say, there are good reasons to let an opponent operate seemingly in the open. As for the Lashon Hora* that passes as rheteric, note that what goes around comes around.
