He accuses Jews of "disobeying Almighty Allah and never observing His commands (invoking Qur'an 5:13 to show that Allah has cursed them); "hiding the truth"; "giving preference to their own interests over the rulings of religion and the dictates of truth"; "wishing evil for people and trying to mislead them"; and more. He says that Jews "feel pain to see others in happiness and are gleeful when others are afflicted with a calamity," and that "their impoliteness and indecent way of speech is beyond description." He says that "it is easy for them to slay people and kill innocents. Nothing in the world is dear to their hearts than shedding blood and murdering human beings." For "they are merciless and heartless"; "they never keep their promises or fulfill their words"; "they rush hurriedly to sins and compete in transgression." And much more.
Note that he found all that in the Qur'an, not in some analysis of the contemporary political situation, or some later religious polemic. Click on the link above and you'll find Qur'anic texts supporting each of the above assertions. So is it any wonder that Mustafa Taj, or any Muslim, might hate Jews? Hatred of Jews is justified by numerous Qur'an verses, and we can see from this article also that at least some contemporary Muslims understand them as being valid for all time and applicable to the Jews of today.
What all this means, of course, is that while Mustafa Taj is indeed a Jew-hater, by his own words, convicting him of a hate crime will not end his Jew-hatred. (Hate crime laws are always wrongheaded, always ill-advised, even when the person accused of hate really is a hater and not a truth-teller who is telling truths that are inconvenient to those in power. But there will be more people like Mustafa Taj, and more incidents like this, unless and until the Canadian authorities, and Western authorities in general, begin to act: above all by ending Muslim immigration into their countries and by requiring Muslims who are already in their countries to institute transparent and inspectable programs teaching against Qur'anic antisemitism and antisemitism in general.
Each one of these incidents should not be seen as a separate, discrete, never-to-be-repeated crime, but as an indication of a pattern that we are going to see more and more in America and the West. Unless we recover the will to act.

Taj, 21, was convicted in May of attacking four teenagers the night of Nov. 3, 2006, while they waited for a C-Train at the Sunnyside LRT station.
Taj approached the group around 10:45 p.m. and asked "who's Jewish." Nichola Cordato, then 16, stated "me" and Taj grabbed her and said, "I'm Muslim and hate Jews."
He then slapped her in the face and pulled her hair before her friends, Jessica Motta, Kayla Hungle and Daniel Ball attempted to intervene.
Hungle attempted to prevent Taj from further attacking Cordato and was punched in the face by him.
Motta then intervened and was punched in the face, pulled to the ground by her hair and kicked in the stomach and ribs.
When Ball tried to stop the assaults, he was thrown onto the C-Train tracks where he fell onto his back and was spat upon by Taj.
During the melee, Taj called Cordato a "Jewish piece of (crap)."...

Hate-crime legislation is always misguided because it punishes for motive and thus moves a society one step closer to thought control by the powers that be. What always should be punished is the act, irrespective of motive. If Muslims want to hate Jews (wow, what a surprise), let them. But, if they act upon that hatred, come down hard on them. That's the best way.
In this particular case, three years in prison with hard labor would have been a more appropriate punishment. And a second offense by this Muslim joker should get him ten years with hard labor (and no prayer rugs). Regardless of what bleeding hearts maintain, deterrence usually works.

No, many Canadians would rather bring a hate crime or libel suit against anyone pointing out this attacker was Muslim because you would be painting all Muslims with the same brush. Just ask Macleans Magazine, Mark Steyn, Ezra Levant. Suggesting deportation is "Islamophobic" in the eyes of the left. Until the left comes to their senses, all this will worsen. With an announced election coming, the Conservative Party of Canada graced my mailbox with a flyer vaunting their idea to reform the Youth Criminal Justice Act under the phrase "Above the Law?". I promptly wrote to the MP listed on the flyer, and asked why I should believe the promise given recent Canadian history.
And this kind of act with such a light sentence confirms exactly what I said to the MP. Crimes need to be severely punished, not ideas.

If I were the parents of those four kids, I would be signing them up for some serious martial arts and self-defence classes: together. And target practice; and how to defend yourself against someone with a knife, just in case.

Unfortunately, thanks to that prostitute historian, the David Irvingesque Bernard Lewis, people were and still are taught that massacres of the Jews throughout history were a result of European Christian writers’ baleful influence on Muslims.
Lewis adopted this approach when writing his Islamic ‘histories’ to ensure the continuation of his recently granted (1950s) exclusive access to the bureaucratic detritus of the then defunct Ottoman empire.
He would have felt quite safe in adopting an Irvingesque approach as in those pre internet days just about everyone in the West was completely unfamiliar with the contents of the Koran, the Hadiths and the Sira.
Lewis did such a thorough job, and his historical whitewash of Islam was greeted with such great acclaim by his Turkish-Muslim masters, that his ‘historical’ works were quickly translated into Turkish and Arabic and soon became the source documents to support almost every delusional belief still held about Islam in Western universities.
With people like Esposito continuing and embellishing on the Lewis’ Irvingesque fantasy about Islam there is little chance that the version of Islamic history being peddled in western universities will change soon.

I wish that an organization or group would be created for the purpose of filing a class action suit against the U.S. and Canadian governments for endangering the security of their Christian, Jewish,and other non-Muslim citizenry as a result of immigration policies permitting Muslims to not only establish residency but acquire citizenship. The suit's objective would be to demonstrate that such policies are in violation of the primary function of government, which is to protect the people. Since a Muslim presence endangers non-Muslim citizens, not only because of Islam's inherent hostility toward non-Muslims but also because of Islam's view of Shari'a as the only legitimate code of law, such immigration policies are demonstrably in violation of the U.S. Constitution. Presumably, this also applies to Canada.
This would also be applicable for as-yet-not-completely-dhimmified nations such as Australia. Such an enterprise would, undoubtedly, require significant fund-raising efforts; attorneys well-versed in Islam along with expert witnesses would be required. I would willingly contribute.

You are historically correct, but that is not how Muslims see it. They believe that all the "Biblical" prophets were actually Muslims--Adam, Abraham, Moses, and even Jesus (Isa)--and that Jews (and later, Christians) were the ones who rejected their messaage and corrupted the scriptures into the Torah and Bible. That this makes no historical sense is of no concern to them.
Andrew Bostom, in his excellent book, "The Roots of Islamic Antisemitism", quotes from Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, who wrote a 700 page treatise rationalizing Muslim Jew hatred, "Jews in the Koran and the Traditions", originally published in the 1970s, and then re—issued in 1986:
"[The] Koran describes the Jews with their own particular degenerate characteristics, i.e. killing the prophets of Allah, corrupting His words by putting them in the wrong places, consuming the people's wealth frivolously, refusal to distance themselves from the evil they do, and other ugly characteristics caused by their deep-rooted lasciviousness...only a minority of the Jews keep their word....[A]ll Jews are not the same. The good ones become Muslims, the bad ones do not."
I especially like that last line--see, there are some good Jews--the ones who "revert" to Islam. Kind of puts a twist on some of that "interfaith" dialogue we hear so much about.
I will say it and I don't care the flack I get for it. The survival and wellbeing of the Jews, and indeed Western civilization as a whole, is contingent upon them joining the fight on the right side.
