Iran would destroy Israel and 32 U.S. military bases in the Middle East if the Islamic Republic was attacked over its disputed nuclear programme, a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying on Saturday.Could the Alawi Bashar be practicing taqiyya to protect his fellow Shias of Iran—taqiyya being almost innate to Shias of all varieties?The Islamic Republic and Israel have been embroiled in an escalating war of words in recent weeks, increasing speculation of military confrontation and helping to send global oil prices to record highs.
Iranian missile tests this week further stoked tension and rattled financial markets.
"The U.S. knows full well that with the smallest move against Iran, Israel and 32 U.S. military bases in the region would not be out of the reach of our missiles and would be destroyed," the semi-official Fars News Agency quoted Mojtaba Zolnour as saying in a speech.
Zolnour is the deputy of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's representative in Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards.
Israel staged an air force exercise last month that sparked speculation about a possible assault on Iranian nuclear sites.
Israel, long assumed to have its own atomic arsenal, has sworn to prevent Iran from emerging as a nuclear-armed power.
Washington has said it wants a diplomatic end to the row but has not ruled out military action should that fail.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has close ties with Iranian leaders, said on Saturday he wanted a political solution to the dispute, adding: "To the best of our knowledge, Iran has no intention of trying to obtain nuclear weapons."
He made his comments at a joint news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy after talks in Paris.Iran, the world's fourth largest oil exporter, has vowed to strike back at Israel, U.S. interests and shipping in the region if it is attacked, threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz, conduit for about 40 percent of globally traded oil.
On Wednesday, Iran said it tested nine long- and medium-range missiles, including one which it says could reach Israel and U.S. bases.

I'm sure that they'll fight like the typical islamic jihadi; wearing a headscarf and a large blue dress with a few 2 year olds hidden beneath so that we won't have the intestinal fortitude to strike back. Iran has been threatening to destroy Israel and the US. What's different this time?
Iranian missile tests were faked...Apparently, there was really only one legit missile in the picture, and the others were clones(fakes). There is also some questions about the range of the missile. Even though this appears more like a bluff to intimate as Iran doesn't have the goods yet, it's certainly doesn't mean the Iranian government is not a threat, there is a goal to destroy Israel and spread their influence in the middle east.

‘Anthony Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies has analyzed the nightmare scenario of a nuclear exchange between Iran and Israel and comes to a very different conclusion. Obviously, any nuclear attack suffered by any country would be a catastrophe -- particularly for one so small as Israel. But Israel is believed to possess nuclear weapons of much greater power and yield than any weapon Iran is likely to get in the near future. Cordesman estimates that Iran would launch a 100-kiloton bomb, which can inflict third-degree burns at a distance of eight miles. But Israel would use 1-megaton bombs that inflict such burns at 24 miles. Israel's arsenal is also large, estimated to be in the neighborhood of 200 warheads, with multiple delivery methods including cruise missiles launched from submarines. If forced into a nuclear war (God forbid), Israel would probably aim for Tehran, a city of about 15 million situated, Cordesman says, "in a topographical basin with mountain reflector. Nearly ideal nuclear killing ground."
Maybe the religious center of Qom would be a better taget. In general, in the event of military conflict, besides military targets IMO Israel should target the real causes of the problem: the Shiite mullahs themselves and as many important mosques and mullah mansions as they can hit. Israel can have a lasting victory only if they destroy the religiously inspired will to destroy Israel – i.e., eliminate the mullahs and - when the ridiculous "hidden imam" doesn’t appear - the cult itself.
muslim countrys were humilated when they attacked Israel and lost, so now they fight by proxy and among civilians. muslim men are cowards to the core, that is why they only have bravado. the sooner (after US elections) iran is bombed by Israel, the better the world will be.
Iran should be rendered incapable of counter attack.

duh_swami, I agree. I've always believed a few flights with even small bombs dropped into their power substations would incapacitate them for many months. As soon as they have rebuilt them, drop some more. With stealth bombers, they would never see it coming. No power, no work, no nothing, no revenue from oil either.
