Dhimmis are forbidden to bear arms. "Iraq: Islamist group threatens churches in Mosul," from Adnkronos International, July 2:
Mosul, 2 July (AKI) - An Islamist group has sent threatening letters to Assyrian churches in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, asking them not to cooperate with US forces.
The letter sent by The Batallion of Just Punishment, Jihad Base in Mesopotamia, also opposes the establishment of a sectarian Assyrian-Christian police force, reported the Assyrian International News Agency on Wednesday.
"We caution and warn anyone who tries to rob us through dealings with the Americans or through the spreading of American forces and/or police to protect the Holy Shrines in the Islamic Republic of Iraq, that these shrines would remain target of the freedom fighters," the letter said.
"We remind the dhimmi people [Jews and Christians] that Iraq is for the noble Iraqis and not for how you are now."
The Islamist group also refers to Assyrian Christians as 'Dhimmi', or a non-Muslim subject of the state governed by Islamic Sharia law.
Of course, that includes paying jizya, which has been extracted under brutal threats.
"I suspect this letter may have actually come from Ansar Al-Islam," said an unnamed Assyrian community leader, referring to the Kurdish Islamist group affiliated with al-Qaeda.
"The Kurds don't want us to have our own police force."
Assyrians are an ethnic group in Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Nearly all Assyrians converted to Christianity during the first century A.D.
Most of the Christians in Iraq belong to the Assyrian and Chaldean Catholic denominations. Others groups include Syrian Orthodox or protestants....
The Batallion of Just Punishment, Jihad Base in Mesopotamia, also opposes the establishment of a sectarian Assyrian-Christian police force,of corse they do because imo they could not trust them to be as corrupt as the police in other muslim nations seem to be
Thugs, bandits, mafiosi, standover men: that's this 'Battalion for Just Punishment'.
I spit on Islam, with its accursed example of Ha-Meshugga 'the madman', Ubul Kassim, the so-called 'prophet', which teaches human beings to behave with such arrogance, cruelty, stupidity and sheer, gut-churning soul-withering wickedness.
Advice for the US forces: if you do NOT adequately arm the Christian community in Mesopotamia and teach them how to stick together and defend themselves, they will be K.I.L.L.E.D, butchered like sheep, and not only butchered, but sadistically gang-raped, mutilated, tortured to death; and then a few wretched survivors will be enslaved and forced to join the Mob; just like thousands and thousands and thousands of their defenceless ancestors were, by Muslim jihadi mobsters.
Advice for Christian charities: these Christians in Mesopotamia will be annihilated unless they have the means to defend themselves. Turning the other cheek to muslims in Mesopotamia will mean, the way things are presently looking, complete genocide: like happened to the Christians in North Africa, or the Jews and Christians of most of Arabia. And then the thug cult of Islam rules, and ruins, yet another part of the earth, turning it into a wretched annex of hell.
Send the Christians guns. Let's make war on the Mob. Because that's what the Ummah is, when all's said and done. A giant Arab/ised mafia mob. Or the Manson gang scaled up to a cast of millions.
Alternatively: since it doesn't seem that the Assyrian Christians have a clearly marked potential fortress-territory they could occupy and reasonably defend (unlike, say, the Maronites of Mont Liban), the Kafir world should encourage and enable the surviving Assyrian Christians of Mesopotamia to flee and settle in the West, thus reinforcing our own numbers.
At least, that way they'd be sure of surviving and - if they put their minds to it - maintaining their culture, language and history and sharing same with their fellow Christians in the wider world.
Meanwhile: no Christians in Mesopotamia would mean no ready-made hostages, nobody the jihadi mobsters can use as human shields or hold to ransom.
Oh, and when we take in those thousands of Christians from Mesopotamia, how's about we send back to the Islamosphere, on the return flights, or the return boats, a corresponding number of Muslims? Illegal immigrants (males at the top of the list), convicted criminals, jihad preachers and suspected jihad enablers, first.
And we get the Christians, after they arrive, to tell us how many churches have been destroyed by Muslims, in Mesopotamia, over the past ten years; and for each of those churches we shut down ten mosques in the West.
It's worth a try. The vast bulk of the jihadis and their bosses appear to be barbarians as per Chesterton's definition: "A barbarian is a man who laughs when he hurts you, but howls when you hurt him".
They are blind and deaf to Christian charity; like the Nazis, they despise it as 'weakness'.
So: let them encounter only stern kafir fighters embodying three of the Four Classical Virtues: Justice (the real thing, not the sharia Unlaw), Fortitude and Prudence; and as for Temperance, well, in this situation, Temperance means that the jihadis get summarily and cleanly killed rather than being subjected to the tortures that they themselves would undoubtedly inflict upon kafir captives.
One wonders how terrified they are of the prospect of a Catholic unity in Iraq...
Re-union of Chaldean Catholics and The Assyrian Catholic Apostolic Diocese Completed and Announced!... It is in the realm of possible things... that the (formerly) 3% of the Chrisitian population of Iraq would all look to the succor and protection of the Bishop of Rome.
Who can blame them? What head of state in the West is speaking out as much or more (or even speaking out to begin with!) as the Pope of Rome?
time has come for the dhimmis to arm themselves to the teeth and make life miserable for the Muslim terrorist thugs..
time has come to quit being second class citizens subject to the whims of violent Muslims warlords.
time has come to reclaim the glory of your past.
time has come to fight to the death, after all if you do not fight you will probable die anyway. Make life miserable for your slave masters..
yes indeed, the time has come.
Had the British not insisted, back in the early 1920s, in incorporating the Ottoman vilayet of Mosul into the Mandate for Mesopotamia (Iraq), and instead allowed it to be incorporated into the French Mandate for Syria/Lebanon, there might have been a chance for the long-term survival of Middle Eastern Christians in a kind of Christianistan, with the Maronites, having enjoyed French protection for decades, in those days still powerful in Lebanon, and in Syria, where there were not only the indigenous Christians but tens of thousands of Armenian Christian refugees, especially in Haleb (Aleppo), then the vilayet of Mosul, with its large population of Assyrians (and Chaldeans) might have tipped the balance.
But the British were not having it. They wanted the vilayet of Mosul for their new "Iraq." This was of little consolation to the hundred thousand Assyrians murdered by Muslim Arabs in 1933, six months after the British troops left, having been assured by the Baghdad Arabs that nothing would be done to harm the Christians.
Oh, one more thing. As is by now well-known, the British in 1921 excluded from the "Balfour-Declaration" provisions of the Mandate for Palestine, all of Eastern Palestine, and turned it into the Emirate of Transjordan (in 1946 it grandly became the Arab Kingdom of Jordan), a consolation prize for Abdullah, the older brother of Faisal, plumped on what became the Hashemite throne of Iraq, as Abdullah was in this new state of Jordan, in order that he, Abdullah, would be satisfied and no longer cast an envious gaze on Syria, and make a claim to ruling there, which would cause all kinds of headaches for the British with the French, who held the Mandate for Syria.
What is less well-known is that in the diplomatic toing-and-froing with France over the dispositioin of the vilayet of Mosul (see the first paragraph above), the government of Great Britain saw fit to offer France, as a sweetener, the Golan, which had been intended to become part of the territory assigned to the Mandate for Palestine, that is to the Mandate which took as its sole and express purpose the establishment of the "Jewish National Home." The next time you hear a Syrian prate about the "ancient Syrian territory of the Goaln" -- for that matter, the next time you hear some idiotic Israeli going on about how "necessary it is that we 'return' the Golan for peace" -- remind them of how the Golan was not originally part of Syria, and that if we are going to start prating about colonialism and post-colonialism, it is the British who, for aims of their aims, tore the Golan out of the territory for Mandatory Palestine and, to win France's acceptance of Mosul's inclusion in an Iraqi state, handed it over to Syria.
These are the things that are not ancient history. They are relevant today. They need to be understood. There is no substitute for detailed knowledge. Vagueness, dreamy assumptions -- the kind of thing that explains the colossal squandering of resources in Tarbaby Iraq -- will not do.
Sorry some good people but I could care less what the French and British did in the 1920s. Who are you, Pat Buchanan? I rather doubt too many of those policy makers are alive today. So Today--The Islamist group also refers to Assyrian Christians as 'Dhimmi', or a non-Muslim subject of the state governed by Islamic Sharia law.
Seeing as we got ourselves into this situation how do we protect these people?
We in the west have all kinds of unhappy mohammedans-they don't like anything we do and keep insisting we change to accomodate them-so let's change. Change our mohammedans for the Assyrian and Chaldean Christians. That way we can keep our dogs and pigs and they can have their camels and goats.
We won't have to build foot baths for them and they won't have to put bombs on our trains and busses. Seems like a fair trade to me.
Are there any liberals reading this? Any Muslim-sympathizers reading this? Any nay-sayers who love to scream how it's the presence of Americans in Iraq that are keeping it so unstable?
"I could care less what the French and British did in the 1920s. Who are you, Pat Buchanan?'
-- from a posting above
What a misdirected comment. It is Buchanan who knows so little about history, and knowing so little, and counting on his readers not knowing much, or assuming that those gullible readers will be like the poster above, who apparently thinks even recent, and most relevant history, is simply a bore and a bother, with which he cannot concern himself -- gets away with his stupidites and his cruelties.
Those who dismiss history, especially when the relevance of that history has been made laid bare, made clear, are -- even if they seem to be on the right side -- part of the problem. Inattention to history on the part of Infidels is what Arabs, and Muslims, are counting on.
If your dismissiveness was meant to be taken seriously, you are urging an inattention that is a form of collaboration with the enemy.
Silly dhimmis - guns are for muslims!
The jihadists don't want infidels to be able to defend themselves when they come for them -- and they will , they already have in many publicized ways .
I hope this means the Americans are finally about to recognize the rights of the Christian Assyrians. Since the US occupation, nearly two-thirds of the Assyrian nation has been forced into exile by the American's Muslim allies, especially by Kurds who have claimed the historic Assyrian lands.
During this time, only Pope Benedict XVI and Russia's Vladimir Putin have spoken up for the Assyrians, while Bush has been completely silent about the fate of this ancient Christian nation.
Father Ragheed and his subdeacons are proof - and not living proof - of the situation in Iraq for Christians today.
