Can't help but wonder if on "Muslim Day" the theme park's "six flags" will depict swords with the words "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah" -- you know, to better help foster a sense of Muslim community. "Muslim Day at Six Flags a time to relax and connect with others," by Deborah Horan, for the Chicago Tribune, July 25:
On any other day, Sobia Ahmed would opt to forgo many of the snacks on offer at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. To perform the Islamic prayers she recites five times a day, she likely would slip onto a secluded path at the amusement park or look for solace under a shady tree for a few furtive minutes."Furtive"? Thought "pious" better characterizes the minutes one spends praying?
This Saturday Ahmed and her family will eat and pray at their leisure in the park with hundreds of other Muslims from the Chicago area who plan to visit the sprawling entertainment center for a day catered especially to them. This, of course, is the same organization that is "listed in the infamous 1991 Muslim Brotherhood memo as participating in a 'grand Jihad' aimed at 'eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions.'" See here for more. For the fourth time since 2004, Six Flags in Gurnee is sponsoring Muslim Day, bringing in outside caterers to provide halal food and turning an amphitheater into a makeshift mosque to accommodate Muslims who observe dietary laws and strict prayer schedules. Muslims who plan to go say they appreciate the sense of community the event creates as well as the opportunity to talk about Islam with curious non-Muslims at the park.
"If you go on regular days, it's kind of tough to find a place to pray," said Ahmed, a stay-at-home mom from Bolingbrook who has attended previous Muslim Days at Six Flags with her husband and five children. "Usually we can't eat the food, but now we can."
Started in New Jersey by an interethnic Muslim organization called the Islamic Circle of North America
[...]For the Muslims' prayer needs, the park chose an amphitheater near the restrooms so worshipers can perform ablutions beforehand. Two outside caterers will provide food that complies with Islamic standards of preparation.
Everyone should mark this dat down on your calender with the notation to be elsewhere...anywhere, but 6 flags.
There will not be any Christian day, or Hindu day, Jewish day, etc at any of the UMMAH countries that is for sure. However, almost every Friday and Saturday after a round at the Mosque there is always that lets kill the infidels day.
You have got to be kidding me. What other religion gets this sort of treatment?
And what, we're just going to stand for this?
The Lets Kill the Infidel Day is the proverbial day for the Mohammedans. Always the sign of such pious activities.
Just my opinion, but I don't believe it's the duty of theme parks to "foster a sense of...community"--ANY community.
Is Six Flags a theme park, or is it a center for social work?
Interesting, it seems that the Chicago Tribune has disable the comments section for this article. I posted on the site early this morning and had been tracking the comments, their was a definite sense of the readers not being pleased about Great Americas decision.
Apparently the Chicago Tribune doesn’t want those types of comments and has decided to eliminate the comments altogether for the article. (last time I looked there were almost 200 comments, before the section was closed.)
At least it's good to see that my region of the world seems to be slowly waking up!
..."they appreciate the sense of community the event creates"....
Having an "exclusive access day" that promotes their "sense of community"? Why do they always seem to talk out of both sides of their mouths at once? On this side, the religion of peace, on the other side, kill the infidels, and both are true, and both make sense to them, no ambiguity. A very strange people.

I think the reporter who wrote the article by using the word "furtive" here is telegraphing to the reader the insensitive privations that we Americans are imposing on Muslims normally (ie. normally Muslims at an amusement park etc. have to go off into the bushes to find a place to express their culture), but now with events like this Muslim Day, we are showing our sensitivity and respect and tolerance. Another example of the subtle bias in mainstream news.
Six Flags over Texas had one of these events in late 2007. It'll be interesting to see if other Six Flags franchises follow suit in the future, or if the company ever changes its mind about dealing with the ICNA.
"For the Muslims' prayer needs, the park chose an amphitheater near the restrooms so worshipers can perform ablutions beforehand."
That's NASTY! I hope they disinfect those sinks after filthy feet have been washed in them FIVE TIMES!! Before the normal folks have to come in the next day and use the restrooms for normal purposes.
Let's hope no woman's hijab or burka gets caught in one of the rides. Surely there's a safety issue here? Or maybe the rides are only for men and children. Can't let the women have any fun, after all.

Maybe they'll enjoy some rides just for them, like the "Stoning Go 'Round," the "Magic Amputation," and what I'm sure will be a great crowd pleaser, the "Whack a Jew."
There are sometimes kosher concession stands at sports stadiums and arenas and I've been in a few minyans at Dodger Stadium and at Disneyland, finding a spot out of the way of pedestrian traffic.
It is inconceivable to me that Orthodox Jews would impose their rituals on others.
Islam is intolerant.
Good cartoon, kaspar. Hope it doesn't cause riots!
Variation on an old proverb:
If Muhammad won't go to Magic Mountain, Magic Mountain will come to Muhammad.
Having fun is so UnIslamic - must be a bunch of lukewarm Muslims.
I don't like amusement parks on a good day but if I ever can steer others clear of any particular brand it will be "magic mountain" and Six Flags.
They are un-American for catering to a bunch of misfits who have chose of their own free will to live in this country and then they are "too good" to fit in and eat the local foods and follow the local customs.
A company who caters to these creeps shouldn't expect Patriot Dollars ever again.
Awake
No need to mark any calendar - just boycott Six Flags altogether. Go to any of the other theme parks - Raging Waters, Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, the Jungle, et al. Let the ummah provide them all their business, and let every day be Muslim Mountain day.
They tried thsi shit in the Uk at our equevalent, Alton Towers, but the outcry caused them to cancel.
This is way past time for an outcry.
So why aren't they doing this for Orthodox Jews? I will never again visit 6 Flags anywhere until they do the same thing for Jews and Buddhists and Hindus, etc...

Ha Ha!! Good one!
"For the Muslims' prayer needs, the park chose an amphitheater near the restrooms so worshipers can perform ablutions beforehand."
Oh my gosh, I don't even want to think about it.
I thought working MAGIC was satanic and strictly HARAM!
"For the Muslims' prayer needs, the park chose an amphitheater near the restrooms so worshipers can perform ablutions beforehand."
How do the Muslims know that things haram didn't happen there, like... wiping every ampitheater seat and every bathroom sink with bacon grease? I mean, not to start a rumor or anything...
"For the Muslims' prayer needs, the park chose an amphitheater near the restrooms so worshipers can perform ablutions beforehand."
I can see leaving the restrooms open for "ablutions", but I hope that Six Flags had the sense to close off the toilet stalls and provide special Moslem port-a-potties for its guests, with ample supplies of stones for wiping. Trying to flush all those stones down a regular toilet would play havoc with the plumbing.
And I wonder if Six Flags would be open to the idea of a "Moslem-free" day, where Moslems would be prohibited from the park. That might prove to be pretty popular, so much so that they might need several Moslem-free days -- each week!
why not boycott this park for a month. and if nobody goes...... maybe we will have a Christian day. or a jewish day......

In the Tribune article that this thread is concerned with it mentioned that the man who organized the first of these six flags Islamic days was killed in the 9/11 attacks.
Boycott the place.
A virul boycott shouldn't be that hard should it?
Press releases sent to the media too?
Seems there is yet another article in the Chicago Tribune on this:
Comment section IS open.

Boycott? As a long-term resident of Waukegan (borders the park in Gurnee), this is disgusting. The slow march to sharia law continues.
Chilout you hatemonger that are foarming at the mouth like radist dog. They have in the past Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and Episcopalians day at the park which show they respect other religious group.
Defender:
If you want respect, then you shouldn't liken your opponents to rabid animals--it shows that you are not inclined to see others differing from yourself as fellow human beings. Moreover, please improve your grasp, you mastery, of the English language.
Paramount's Great America amusement park in Santa Clara, California (near San Jose) has held "Muslim Unity Day" in early August since at least 2005. "Muslim Unity"--now that's a rather scary thought.
They do the same thing as Six Flags--bring in Halal food stalls so that none of the Muslim visitors will be polluted by the park's usual fare. They also feature lots of "Islamic music"--which is of course an oxymoron to the more radically inclined. Islamically-tinged Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock and even Country are featured.
I'm not sure how many parks around the U.S. have these "Muslim Fun Days"--I know there are several. How about in other Western countries?
I know an amusement park in Britain, Alton Towers, called off their "Muslim Fun Day" last year out of lack of interest (insert "there is no fun in Islam" joke here).
Oops--how embarrasing!--"you mastery" should read, "your mastery."
