There are some 2,500 non-uniformed Hizbullah fighters in southern Lebanon, and the organization has trebled its pre-war missile arsenal, government sources said Wednesday following a security cabinet meeting on Hizbullah's current strength and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
According to the sources, Hizbullah today has some 40,000 short and medium-range missiles inside Lebanon, and UN Security Council Resolution 1701 - the resolution that put an end to the Second Lebanon War and provided an expanded mandate for UNIFIL - has been completely ineffective in stopping arms from pouring in to Hizbullah from Syria.
The vast majority of the missiles are north of the Litani river, but can still "blanket" the northern part of Israel, the sources said.
The security cabinet meeting came as the government is apparently trying to place the implementation of 1701 back on the international agenda.
The ministers heard three hours of briefings from Military Intelligence, Mossad and General Security Services representatives, before the meeting was cut short to enable the ministers to attend debates in the Knesset. The security cabinet discussion, which had been planned for a number of weeks, is scheduled to continue in the coming weeks....
Another war on Israel's northern frontier is surely coming and this time Israel must not fight it with the ineptitude and timidity that characterized its approach two years ago. The Muslims states , not just Gaza, are posturing for another all-out assault on Israel...I believe it will start with a massive missile barrage from Gaza, followed by missile barrages from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and of course, the big bang from Iran.

I have said this before in another post. Armed forces have to plan against threats to there countries and make contingency plans. Believe it or believe it not the German high command before the first world war had plans to invade the U.S.A. It might sound fantastic but it is what armies do. 2006 might just have been the ideal wake up call to the IDF. They certainly had a plan to destroy Hezbullah. Unfortunately the Hezbullah had worked out the IDF's weaknesses and were able to checkmate it to a certain degree. They claimed a victory which it was not, but that doesn't matter. The IDF will have certainly over the last couple of years been doing some hard thinking, and come up with alternative plans. Some of them have been quietly and not so quietly put into place, the arrow anti-ballistic missile shield is a good example. I suspect that the Israelis have got an antidote. The problem as I remember was that of the reinforced bunkers that Hezbullah had built, stopped any Israeli advance, for that you need bunker busters and $300,000,000 seems a tad on the high side for bunker busters to demolish Irans Nuclear arsenal. Perhaps those pesky Yids have bought a few extra for the side shows that will happen if they bomb Iran. One can only live in hope. The other thing I like about the IDF is that when you are called up they pick the best for the Air force, none of your affirmative action, ability is the key, and you can bet your last dollar that what they are going to do if they are attacked next time will be very very ruthless and surprising.
I hope you're right, Holger Dansker. I hope that one such 'surprise' is that the IDF figures out a way to suppy arms to the Christians so nasrallah's thugs have more to worry about than Israeli tanks and missiles.
Nothing should be left of it and the only way this can be accomplished is by way of total war.

What ever happened to all those B-52s? And when you see them marching and parading shooting their guns in the air.. I call that a target-rich environment and one to be engaged from the air.

If the Israelis can get rid of Olmert & Co., pronto, and find themselves a leadership capable of mustering the courage and cool judgement displayed by young Moshe in the Jaffa Road when he hopped up on a careering bulldozer and shot the jihadi driver point blank, they'll manage.
Most of us can't do much to help that happen: apart from perpetually repeating, on Israeli media talkbacks and in comments on Israeli English-language blogs, the basic points about the source and the tactics of the Arab/Muslim jihad against Israel, which Hugh has taught us here, and perpetually dinning into Israeli ears the names and works of Bat Yeor, Robert Spencer, Andrew Bostom, and such other handy works as Khadduri's 'War and Peace in the Law of Islam'.
Meanwhile, the only way the Western world's cruel, perverse and indeed suicidal shackling of Israel will cease, will be if we can clear the fog of Muslim Big Lies from our own politicians' heads (and from the heads of some of our media, and of our religious leaders).
Somehow, we have to try to get them to see what is flamingly obvious to anyone who really 'gets' the texts, teachings and history of Islam: this business in the Middle East is NOT a war between 'two tiny peoples', it is NOT some incomprehensible 'cycle of violence', it is NOT the 'Poor Palestinians' trying to achieve 'independence' in the face of Oppression from the Evil Jews... it is nothing less than the entire Islamosphere preparing to carry out a second Shoah against the Jews, by way of prelude to its projected conquest of the planet.
