King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, July 15, 2008, as quoted in "Dialogue will remove mistrust: King," by P.K. Abdul Ghafour for Arab News, July 16, 2008:
We have adopted a comprehensive anti-terror strategy that not only focuses on the security side but also includes preventing financing of terrorism and dealing with its intellectual roots as well as rehabilitating the followers of deviant ideologies after giving them counseling.
Yet these "intellectual roots" of jihad violence remain undealt with:
Center for Religious Freedom of Hudson Institute, "2007-2008 Academic Year Excerpts from Saudi Ministry of Education Textbooks for Islamic Studies: Arabic with English Translation":
When God sent his Prophet Muhammad, He abrogated with his law all [other] laws and He commanded all people, including the people of the book, to believe him and to follow him. The people of the book should have been the first to believe him because they find him in their scriptures. Their prophets had informed them of Muhammad's mission. But most of them denied and rejected him.The clash between this [Muslim] nation and the Jews and Christians has endured, and it will continue as long as God wills. In this hadith, Muhammad gives us an example of the battle between the Muslims and the Jews.
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet said, "The hour [of judgment] will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them. [It will not come] until the Jew hides behind rocks and trees. [It will not come] until the rocks or the trees say, 'O Muslim! O servant of God! There is a Jew behind me. Come and kill him. Except for the gharqad, which is a tree of the Jews.’"
Al-Bukhari: 103/6, number 2926. Volume: Jihad; Chapter: Fighting the Jews. But it does not contain "except for the gharqad..." [The hadith is also cited in] Muslim, including said expression: 2239/4, number 2922. Volume: Pertaining to the turmoil and portents of the last hour; chapter: The hour [of judgment] will not come until a man passes by a man's grave and wishes to take the place of the deceased.

Does this mean that the King will be rewriting the Holy Qur'an?
Is there a King Abdullah version of the Qur'an in the future?
Just watch the fatwas fly!
The Qur'an is the Qur'an. As long as it is viewed by Muslims as the Word of Allah, unchanged and unchangeable, there will be jihad.
There is no way to "explain" the phrase "smite them at their necks".
So does that mean all the Wahhabi imams, financed by the Saudis and sent out by the thousands to staff mosques all across the world, will be dismissed?
"tacking"?
We have adopted a comprehensive anti-terror strategy that not only focuses on the security side but also includes preventing financing of terrorism and dealing with its intellectual roots as well as rehabilitating the followers of deviant ideologies after giving them counseling.
Abdullah's primary concern on the "security side" is the safety and continued rule of the al-Saud family.
A secondary concern would be the fighting between Muslims, but even that has limits. Aren't the "followers of deviant ideologies" all who are not Wahhabists? Wouldn't this include all Shia, not just in SA but everywhere?
If Abdullah worries about Iran it's because its people are deviants. Iran was once a Sunni nation.
The clash between this [Muslim] nation and the Jews and Christians has endured, and it will continue as long as God wills. In this hadith, Muhammad gives us an example of the battle between the Muslims and the Jews.
This has no "intellectual roots", so there's nothing to change or remove from any textbook. It's classic Muslim ideology. It's not seen as terrorism. It's jihad, the legitimate practice of the Muslim faith. It has been their way since the founding of Islam. Why change now?
As Thomas Aquinas once put it, “a half-truth is more dangerous than a lie.”
Saudi comprehensive anti terror strategy reflects an Islamic viewpoint. That viewpoint includes removing any obstacles to dawa, all obstacles are viewed as a form of repression, even terrorism.
A second point,
is reflected in OPEC's doubling+ of crude in the last few months. Wealth transferred from the West for crude eventually drains funds from coffers for national security, a form of Islamic justice, so to speak. Is it true that the only change made in the Quran lo these many years was the removal of the first four words, "Once upon a time..."?
Bwa ha ha . . .ROFLOL!

The "king" is being reminded that paying his bills may remove some mistrust as well . . .

I second that.
tracking? tackling?
When are Jews and Christians going to show their collective balls (there'd be a good few! that's times twice the Jewish and Christian populations!) and start dismantling the disgraceful lies taught about their scriptures by ignorant or mendacious Muslims? The Old and New Testaments have been studied and taken apart for centuries -- there was no removal of references to the coming of the warlord Mohammad. How could there be? He didn't arrive till centuries later. THis is an evil and destructive libel that has poisoned countless minds against Judaism and Christianity. It must be countered and with great vigour. THese Muslims are people of the lie.
