It is commonly understood that the earlier Meccan Surahs are more tolerant, corresponding to the earlier phase of Muhammad's life when his teaching focussed mainly on purely religious issues such as belief in one God and the rejection of pagan idolatry. He hoped to persuade Jews to accept him as the prophet of monotheism in line with the Hebrew prophets of the Old Testament, and for the Christians to accept him as the apostle of God, somewhat analogous to the apostles of the New Testament.

However, there was resistance from both groups who clearly saw that Muhammad's teaching was at odds in major respects with the Scriptures as they knew and understood them - not least, the final and absolute authority Muhammad claimed for himself. The Medinan Surahs become more and more strident, imposing social, political and military imperatives on the Muslim community, until finally, the Qur'an became replete with teaching of hate, destruction, death and servitude to all who resisted Islam, either on the battlefield or in their personal faith. A well-respected authority on Islam, himself a radical, Sheikh Muhammad Ezzat Darwazei, counts between 500 and 700 jihad verses in the Qur'an. It is important to remember that these "sword verses' abrogate earlier verses apparently advocating peace and tolerance.

I watched the video- of course, for the faithful readers of this site and LGF or others, it's nothing new.

I would add that the guest espousing his plan(s) is far too pessimistic about the difficulties Muslims are or will face in Europe. They don't need to be successful and appealing to Europeans to integrate- in fact integration is obviously the last thing they wish for. What they need are a few, very few, successful nominal Muslims in business/sports, etc. and the rest to be very unsuccessful, unintegrated, poor and rural so they may recapitulate the same lifestyles they had in outer Algeria and now in Paris. In other words, the exact same pattern they have been using for decades.

Never overestimate the ability of a European-left social worker to empathize with "the other" and to see "the other" as "the other" even after the social worker has become "the other."

In the twisted upside down irrational, blood thirsty malevolent universe of Allah, it all makes sense that they will not “reason together” but demand “submission” to their barbaric primitive 7th century ideology mandated by their ‘perfect man’s’ prime directive to conquer the whole world - for their Mesopotamian moon god Allah, of course. It cannot be otherwise, wherever Islam rules as it is supposed to rule, because human reason, and freedom to think rationally, are highly suspect in the universe of Allah, since they are works of the devil. The only safe haven from the devil is to stop thinking, stop imagining yourself as a free individual, and submit-submit-submit in blind zombie fashion to that vile caricature of a deity – Allah, of course. The “slaves of Allah” are expected to do no less, to “submit together” to the Temple of Doom – Islam, of course – as spelled out in the Qu’ran. Then Allah is satisfied with the sacrifice paid in human blood, as it has been for 1400 years. It all makes sense, as the only way for Islam.

In connection with the differing methods of resolving differences - the Islamic method, versus other methods - here is something fascinating that I found on the Bible Society website, some time ago.

It is the story of a Kurdish scholar in Turkey, originally a nominal and distinctly unhappy Muslim, and what happened to him when he signed up to translate the New Testament into the Kurdish language. He was already heading for apostasy...then he read the New Testament...and found a religion that suited him much, much better.

From the story on the link provided above:

'By the time he was engaged on the project he was of the firm opinion that the Kurds would benefit greatly from having the Bible in their own language. {Note well: Christianity, unlike Islam, generally respects indigenous vernaculars - dda}.

'As he became immersed in reading and translating the New Testament, he found that he was being deeply affected by it.

'He discovered that Christianity’s culture was quite different from that of Islam.

'Certain Bible teachings highlighted the differences strikingly.

“It totally changed me to deal with how you are taught to forgive people, to love people and live with them in peace.

'"The Bible says ‘Love your enemies and your neighbours’ and ‘Treat your neighbour as you would like to be treated.’ This affected me.”

'From then on, while still a Kurdish intellectual, “In my heart,” he says, “I believed in Jesus.”

'“When I recognised the Bible, I learned to be flexible… to listen to people… to forgive them… and to be more patient.

'For example, if you are among Muslims, you would always fight. I don’t want to fight; I always wanted to convince people, to argue with them. … to understand them.”

{In other words: his basic personality was, so to speak, 'un-Islamic' or 'anti-Islamic', and then he encountered, in the Gospels, something that answered to his longing for a different way of relating to people and solving problems - dda}.

'The year after he became a translator he undertook a short course in Christian theology. Since giving his life to Jesus Christ, he has been a vocal advocate of the Christian faith.

“I have spoken with hundreds – maybe thousands – of people on the issue of being Christians and Muslims,” he says.

“And I am always supporting the totally different Christian culture.
“Maybe I am like a missionary, you could say – like 10 missionaries!” (WR 399/13 - 01/02.06)'.

Quotable quote, right from the horse's mouth:

Says it all, really. And this guy was a Kurd, brought up in a 'lax' or nominal Muslim family, in an educated milieu, in modern Turkey. Yet his description of the 'atmospherics of Islam', as Hugh would say, the 'default' attitude that it inculcates toward the resolution of conflict or disagreement, applies without alteration to Somalia or Afghanistan or Iraq or...well, anywhere else within the Islamosphere, throughout its entire history.

One more time, from this Kurdish apostate, describing the mindset he chafed against, and then, finally, blessedly, escaped:

Conflict resolution is a simple thing for Muslims - annihilate your enemies.

The Muslim winner-take-all/loser-gets-dead zero-sum-game mindset that AtheistAfghan has summed up for us, can also be found very clearly in the words of Ben Bella, then President of Algeria, in 1982, reported by Bat Yeor in 'The Dhimmi', pp 137-38:

Now, let's look at Ben Bella's words again - 'What we want, as Arabs (or, 'we Arabs') is to *be". However, we can only be, if *the other* is not'.

All one has to do is realize that when he says 'we Arabs' he might as well have said 'we Muslims'. Similarly, the word 'Arab' in the phrase 'the acquisition of nuclear weapons by Arab states' might also be replaced by the word 'Muslim', since there is in practice an almost perfect overlap between 'being Arab' and 'being Muslim'.

Let's rephrase a little.

"What we want, we Muslims, is to BE. But we can only be, if THE OTHER does not exist."

*That* is how the 'tawheed' principle of absolute unity works out in everyday social and political life: it produces people who - like extreme narcissists - experience the Other, any Other, any thwarting or crossing of their will, as a mortal threat to their existence, an Absolute Evil that must be destroyed or devoured.

And so the Ummah is racked by internecine strife, at all levels, from the familial to the dynastic, even while it also makes war against its kafir neighbours.
