UK govt drops plan to allow Muslim schools to police themselves

A glimmer of sanity in Insane Britannia. "Government drops plan to allow Muslim schools to police themselves," by Graeme Paton in the Telegraph, July 21 (thanks to Twostellas):

Under proposals unveiled earlier this year private Muslim schools were to be given the chance to carry out their own Ofsted-style inspections.

It was announced a new independent watchdog would be set up to be more "sensitive" toward Islamic education and the new body would also inspect a small number of independent Christian schools.

But now Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary, has effectively vetoed the plan.

It follows warnings from Ofsted, the official schools inspectorate, that the move would cause "increased fragmentation" and "works against any consistent approach to national standards".

As the great philosopher once said to me, "Well, duh."

"the new body would also inspect a small number of independent Christian schools."

ODD, I don't recall any Christian Schools teaching hate or superacism. I don't recall seeing Christian students protesting and demanding special considerations for everything under the sun.

Odd.

Ed Balls has balls.

It's about time that the UK paid attention to Muslims monitoring themselves. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house!

exsgtbrown,

It's so good to see you back and posting again! You've been missed.

Yeah, it's odd, this proposed inspection of Christian schools, but since they have nothing to hide, let the inspectors inspect, say I, and hope the discrepancies stand out in the difference between the two varieties (Muslim vs. Christian schools).

Sheikh

Beat me to it

Maybe the Brits are finally getting the message. One can only hope they are and that they keep it up. Otherwise, all is lost in less than two decades.
