As I have pointed out many, many times, there is no reliable way to distinguish a peaceful Muslim from an actual or potential jihadist. There is no Islamic group anywhere in the world that has pronounced takfir upon Muslims who hold to the idea that non-Muslims must be warred against and subjugated -- that is, no Islamic group has declared such ideas to be un-Islamic. Consequently, the French patrol was foolish to entrust itself to this Afghan interpreter, whose loyalties they could not know.
"Leak may have led to Taliban ambush on French," from France24, August 27 (thanks to Jihad Watch's Marisol Seibold):
New information surfaced Wednesday on the death on August 18 of 10 French soldiers who, while on a reconnaissance mission in Eastern Afghanistan, were ambushed by Taliban insurgents. French satirical weekly Le Canard Enchaîné, reputed for its investigative reporting and political scoops, suggested that the French patrol may have been betrayed by their Afghan interpreter.“A few hours before the soldiers departed on their mission on August 18, the interpreter who was supposed to accompany the small patrol disappeared,” said an article on Wednesday in Le Canard Enchaîné.
According to FRANCE 24 sources, this version of the facts was given to journalists by soldiers who had participated in the mission while they were being treated at the French military hospital in Kabul.
According to the newspaper, French officials speaking anonymously admitted that the insurgents knew about the French patrol’s mission “through the missing interpreter, or through Afghan police or soldiers.”Franck Berruyer, FRANCE 24’s correspondent in Kabul, said that the presence of heavy artillery was clear evidence of an information leak. “Heavy mortars had been set up at the spot. The Taliban do not walk about with these weapons – you set them up when you know you’re going to use them.”...
Find that interpreter, and do the only sensible thing. First, have a publicized trial in which he can get off for lack of absolutely iron-clad evidence, and to make up for putting him through all that, grant him immediate American citizenship, then make him a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Or if you want to keep the French connection, bring him back to France, and to make for, etc. nominate him to run for office, possibly even on Sarkozy's ticket, in a city where French-speaking North Africans constitute the majority of voters.
Seems the jihadwatch editor left out an important part of this story that's inluded in the link to the original:
"The French army spokesman in Kabul denied that the Afghan interpreter in question had fled, saying that he had been killed during the clashes and that his body had been returned to his family."
So who knows what happened. Jihadwatch's point is well taken but may not apply in this instance. There's a lot of ambiguity in this situation.
“through the missing interpreter, or through Afghan police or soldiers.”
Yeah. Any number of several thousands could have sold them out. Wonderful little thought.
Why not make him Mayor of Brussels so he can keep an eye on those dhimmis at the EU? Their City Council is infested with moslems already I hear.

And so how are we to trust a Muslim, any Muslim, anywhere, anyway, anyhow?
How are we to know where their loyalties lie? Their word is not their bond.
We can't "trust but verify". No agreement that we sign is worth the paper it's printed on. All we can do is keep our weapons at the ready.
I remember a BBC interview with an Afghan muslim 'civilian' who said that "the British can stay here until they get rid of the Taliban, but we cannot make them our friends because they are not muslims"
SIOE does not believe in moderate muslims or extreme muslims. There are only muslims, people ignorant of islam and do not really practice the 'religion' but still call themselves muslim, and finally those who are desperate to exit islam, but are too scared to do so - because of muslims.

Ain't that the truth...I don't trust anyone who thinks Allah is God, muslim or not.
No, no, no, Hugh, we here in California know better than anyone else how to handle these matters.
The interpreter should be sent to San Francisco where he can be properly shielded from any and all immigration or law enforcement authorities. He will be provided lavish accommodations and the “cultural outreach” assistance he requires - all at taxpayer expense of course.
Once ensconced in his new abode, he may then continue his jihadist activities against the Infidel populace as he pleases, without fear of any pesky kuffar interference. This of course is his right as a certified member of a “disadvantaged minority” class, who has been victimized by Western civilization since the Crusades – we owe him. Everyone here knows these things.
Davegreybeard...You got SF right, the only thing you left out was the personal welcome from the mayor and board of sups. Dinner, hugs, a welfare check...They have done this for many of societies rejects and people running from the law.
When Michael Savage starts slamming SF, he is right...He should know, he's right in the middle of them, and they savage him frequently...No dinner or hugs for Michael...he doesn't fit the profile...
My gosh, swami, you’re right!
How could I POSSIBLY have left out the welcome by Newsom and the gang – and especially the dinner and HUGS also?
How horribly “culturally insensitive” of me!
That tears it! I’m going straight away to the Democrat national convention, so I can spend a little time in their “Iranian Tent” ‘till I “get my mind right”.
The same thing happened to a American SF patrol and was filmed by National Geographic IMS. Seems the SF platoon and its Afghani auxiliaries got stuck on a hillside road as it was getting dark. By the time they got moving the Afghani truck picking up the rear turned its headlights on full beam and illuminated the SF hummers - 10 seconds later Taleban RPG's hammered the SF hummers. 2 SF troopers died and several others were wounded.
Oddly enough the truck carrying Afghanis was not harmed.
It never occurred to the SF troopers that Omar the truck driver wasn't working for the Taleban.

My son was involved in an incident like this. In his case it was a group of Afghan police that attacked a group of American and Afghan troops, killing one of the Afghans and wounding an American. The outcome was a bit different though -- he put a bomb (he's a tactical air controller) right onto their truck as they escaped and the whole lot of them are now in paradise (at least the parts of them that weren’t vaporized).
The war in Afghanistan can be very bad becuase our troops will have to depend on honerless Muslim interpreters who will betray them sooner or later. Unlike in Iraq where nearly 50% of the interpreters are Christians whom you can trust them with your life, in Afghanistan more than 99% of interpreters are honorless Muslims. Very few Christians, if any, speak Afghanistani language. The Christains in Afghanistan have been wiped out long ago.
