JAKARTA (Reuters) - Lawyers for three Islamic militants on death row for the 2002 Bali bombings lodged a legal challenge on Wednesday over Indonesia's method of executing convicts by firing squad, calling it inhumane.The three men -- Imam Samudra, Amrozi and Mukhlas, also known as Ali Gufron -- face a firing squad for their roles in the nightclub bombings on the island of Bali that killed 202 people.
"We believe that execution by way of a gunfire is inhumane. It is for these reasons that the defense attorneys are applying to challenge the legislation," said lawyer Wirawan Adnan, adding that a judicial review had been lodged at the Constitutional Court.
A Bali court initially sentenced the three men to death in 2003, but their lawyers have used a number of legal avenues that have delayed the executions.
"It's not a matter for us whether or not Amrozi is to be executed. Gunfire is one way, another way of doing it is by lethal injection," Adnan said, adding that it could take more than a minute for a convict to bleed to death after being shot.
The three men would prefer an Islamic method of execution by beheading, Adnan added.
"We believe that is still more humane than by a gunfire," said the lawyer....

Hang 'em. Don't give them the "honorable" way out. A little history lesson. Back when the US was fighting for its freedom, a certain American hero of the day conspired to betray his fellow Patriots. The man charged with helping this hero was a British major, John Andre. When he was caught, oddly enough by soldiers looking to rob him, he was tried, found guilty, and sentenced to die by hanging for being a spy. He was in civvy clothes at the time. He asked to be shot, as an honorable officer should. The answer was "No". When the appointed day came, he slipped on the noose, and when asked if he had any last words, he gave his response which many who follow history recall as "....a momentary pang...". Many of the witnesses openly wept as he was hung for there went a brave man to his death.
These men are not brave men. They do not deserve an "honorable" death for the crimes they committed. Honorable in their eyes. Their method of execution should be anything but beheading. They don't deserve that consideration, since they gave no consideration to those they sought to kill.
Slaughter some pigs, dip the bullets in pigs blood, and bury them with those pigs.
Or use the same knife that you slaughtered pigs with, chop off their heads then bury them with the pigs.

Not that I disagree with anyone, but why execute them at all? If they want to die so badly, we could deny them that "dignity" and just feed them pork products every meal for the rest of their lives.

Well, it's about instituting Islamic norms. But, you might say, if Indonesia instituted enough Islamic norms--such as beheading--might not people consider these guys jihadi heroes, rather than criminals to be executed? What could be more Islamic than blowing up partying Kaffirs?
I think that *this* is the main reason for the demand. That, and the by-now time-honored habit of jihadists to mess with whatever legal system is holding them as much as they possibly can, for as long as they can.
