"This is the festival of arts and culture and there are many believers in our population as well," said Svetlana Djurkovic, who heads the "Q Association" promoting the rights of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual population.
"It coincided with Ramadan unintentionally."
Sarajevo, a symbol of multi-ethnic co-existence and tolerance before the 1992-95 Bosnian war, is now predominantly Muslim.
One academic argued that the lack of sexual tolerance has contributed to the region's violent past.
"The lack of sexual freedom has made people in the region very prone to war mongering and crimes," philosophy professor Ugo Vlaisavljevic told a weekly newspaper.
Djurkovic said the reaction to a gay festival would have been the same, not [sic: no]matter when it was held.
"This is a traditional society in which most people still do not accept the existence of different sexualities or identities," she added.
Slovenia is the only former Yugoslave republic to legalise registered same-sex partnerships, while no other allows gay marriages and most have no laws protecting sexual minorities from discrimination.
Note how this is presented as fact. Not that "extremists" regard it as a sin or disease. Or "fundamentalists." Just a fact.

'Many' believers in our population'? How many is many? For muslims, one is too many.

A gay guy claiming that there are many gay muslims is going to hurt non gay muslims feelings more than the festival...Watch out for muslims with hurt feelings. 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned', takes a back seat to muslims with hurt feelings.
With hurt feelings muslims seem to get a little out of sorts, sometimes they rant, and often they rage.
It can be dangerous for a kufr to be in close proximity to a ranting, raving muslim. Or worse a group of them.
Watch for muslims to become very upset with this gay business, and cause real trouble...

"So far, no anti-gay incidents when gay Muslims get together here in NYC. They do that at monthly events in Manhattan called habibis. (Habibi is an Arab word that means “my male beloved”.) I’ve attended a couple, but the crowd was too young for me. Anyway, cross-dressing hairy Turks and dizzy Desis are not my type!
The past few habibis were held at the Eagle, which is a leather bar. Recently the e-mail group for the Gay and Lesbian Arab Society of New York experienced a flame when some of the more conservative members (mostly Christian Arabs with names like Paul and Rikki) objected to the venue. As a result, the next one on 9/13 will be at swank dive called Katra.

Just because the American Psychological Association succumbed to pressure and took it out of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders doesn't mean that it isn't one.
Homosexuality itself is not a sin, however. (To quote the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith: "The particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin.") What is sinful (and what the Bible classifies as sin) is the commission of homosexual *acts*. (Similarly, kleptomania is not a sin, but theft is.)
Homosexuality is neither a sin nor a disease. It just is. Homosexuality exists in the animal kingdom. Are the animals sinning? Are they diseased? No. They are just being what they are. There are far more important things to worry about or condemn. Like islam.

I think that organizing a gay event in the midst of hatred and possible violence is a very brave gesture, and shows more courage than many other groups who have remained silent and have taken a stand for no one and for no cause while the human rights of their neighbors are violated regularly.
In light of that bravery maybe the arguments about what the bible has to say about homosexuality are pointless.

And just because the APA used to classify it as a disorder some time ago (but changed it due to new scientific research contrary to that classification in addition to public pressure) doesn't make it a disorder either.

I'm Chinese gay and I'm very upset and angry towards moslems who play cops against gay men all over the world! Who gave u the right to KILL gay, huh?! Moslem anti-gay law (along with anti-pork etc) derived from the JEWISH religion. I'm a peaceful man, but I'm very mad when my homsoexuality is being attacked by a bunch of lunatic moslem! You guys keep pleading that islam is a 'peaceful' religion yet at the same time you guys don't show any good will to reform islam!!!
