An update on this story. "Alleged Mata Hari of Al Qaeda Could Provide 'Treasure Trove' of Intelligence," by Richard Esposito and Brian Ross for ABC News, August 12:
When she was arrested in Afghanistan last month, Aafia Siddique allegedly had in her possession maps of New York, a list of potential targets that included the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the subway system and the animal disease center on Plum Island, detailed chemical, biological and radiological weapon information that has been seen only in a handful of terrorist cases, as well as a thumb drive packed with emails, ABC News has learned.
That haul of information has led multiple government sources to describe Siddique, a 36 year-old MIT graduate, as a potential "treasure trove" of information on terrorist supporters, sympathizers or 'sleepers' in the United States and overseas.
"She is the most significant capture in five years," said former CIA officer John Kiriakou, who said she lives up to her reputation as an alleged terrorist 'Mata Hari.' [...]
Only a "handful" of captured alleged Al Qaeda associates have had the kind of detailed information on weapons of mass destruction that Siddique, who attended MIT as an undergraduate and earned her PhD in neuroscience at Brandeis, had in her handbag, multiple current and former US intelligence and law enforcement officials told ABC News. [...]
"Her education troubled us. We know that she's extremely bright. She's radicalized. We knew that she had been planning, or at least involved in the planning, of a wide variety of different operations, whether they involved weapons of mass destruction or research into chemical or biological weapons, whether it was a possible attempt on the life of the President," said Kiriakou. "We knew that she was involved with a great deal and we had to bring her into custody." [...]
When nabbed by a team of Afghanistan National Police officers on July 17th, she also had in her possession a one gigabyte digital media storage device - a thumb drive - whose contents included a large trail of emails that authorities are now poring over, sources said. Those e-mails, a source involved in the investigation said, are between "what she described as 'units' and what we would call 'cells'."
In her papers she had maps and information concerning potential targets in New York City that sources say included the subway, Times Square and the Statute of Liberty, ABC News has learned. She also carried excerpts from "The Anarchist's Arsenal" and "documents detailing United States military assets", according to the federal complaint against her filed July 31st in Manhattan. [...]
ABC News sources said that she also had information indicating the possibility of "an attack" on Plum Island Disease Center, a secure US government facility off the tip of Long Island, New York where research into foot and mouth disease, swine fever and other animal pathogens is conducted by the Department of Agriculture and security is provided by the Department of Homeland Security. [...]
Read it all.
If ever a person needed water boarding, it's this woman.
I'm thinking that she is intelligent enough to be a problem getting information out of.

There are entire fields that, I'm afraid, simply must be put off-limits, to the extent possible, to students from Muslim countries, and to Muslim students from anywhere. Will that be unfair to some? Yes. But it is impossible to figure out who is who, who thinks what, and who, if he or she is just fine now, will change in the future, possibly for reasons that are purely personal but, for Muslims, so often lead to a Return to Islam. That risk cannot be taken.
Already the Netherlands has decreed that no Iranian may study nuclear engineering in that country. The predictable protests led to nothing. That is a policy that needs to be extended, three ways:
1) the ban should include much more than "nuclear engineering" though that is undoubtedly the most important field of study to close to Muslim students. Ideally, such a ban will extend to most graduate training in other areas -- physics, chemistry, biology -- at for at that level it is more likely that sufficient knowledge will be acquired to be put, later, to sinister use.
2) the ban should include nationals of nations other than Iran, and be extended to Muslims living -- especially to Muslims living -- in Infidel lands.
3) the ban should go beyond the Netherlands and be put in force by all the Infidel nations.
Will anything like that happen?
No, of course not. But discussion, the mere discussion, of these proposals will lead some to realize, after their initial shock, that they are rational, not vindictive, and appropriate for the unprecedented threat, and the unprecedented circumstances, of having Infidels actually helping to train Muslims in fields that, for those Infidels, can turn out to be dangerous. Think of A. Q. Khan, learning enough in Dutch and German labs, just enough, to know what he had to steal and bring back to Pakistan.
There are ways to approximate, or to try to approximate, the kind of bans laid out above. It is likely to come to that. Too bad that time will pass, and unnecessary deaths occur, before Western and other governments come fully to their senses.
You're right about that Hugh, but I would propose that the ban includes any area of science, math, chemistry, operating of equipment of any kind (i.e. trucks, trains, airplanes). . . well pretty much everything but goat herding.
Just keep them out of western countries and deport the ones we have.
"She's radicalized."
Radicalized or devout?
She is only doing what her Koran instructs her to do, and what was exampled by Muhammad himself.
Islam must be stopped.
I hereby propose the Interrogation Dream Team.
Raymond Ibrahim. Robert Spencer. Ibn Warraq. Ali Sina. Patrick Sookhdeo. Wafa Sultan. Nonie Darwish. Phyllis Chesler. (The three ladies being all no-nonsense psychologists or psychiatrists, perfectly aware of all the varieties of psychosis that Islam produces).
They know Qur'an-Sira-Hadith and they are absolutely unfoolable. I think Sultan, Darwish and Chesler might be able to provoke her into talking, and keep her talking.
Also, a couple of big strong Marines to physically restrain this hellcat if she 'loses it'.
Time limit? - as long as it takes. Operate in relays. Turn her inside-out.
Film the whole thing and call it 'Interview With a Murderess'.
She appears to be as nasty a specimen as some of the higher-ranking female Nazis, and should be treated as they should have been, with hard-hearted, icy-eyed rationality.
Oh, and the first thing to do before the interview starts is to remove, and burn, her hijab. Precisely as one would strip a captured Gestapo or SS member of any insignia.
From the article:
"Siddique, who attended MIT as an undergraduate and earned her PhD in neuroscience at Brandeis".
Question - what, precisely, is 'neuroscience', as taught at Brandeis?
And if this...female... did a PhD, a copy of that PHD, complete with bibliography, should be in the library at Brandeis, or somewhere.
Every course she took, at MIT and at Brandeis, and the results she gained, should be on the record.
Every classmate and every person who taught her should be traceable. And every Muslim organisation she belonged to, while she was in the USA, should also be traceable.
Freedom of Religion, as far as I am concerned not for a Religion, who talks about a destruction of other religions or non-believers.
That's why they should not be living in other countries. It is sad that it has to be that way.
They are trying to do their destruction in so many different ways. Now they found their way to more info about chemicals and diseases.
hat a lotof them are pedophiles is already bad enough.
Islam belongs in the Middle East. Not in modern civiliation.
How can this be stopped before it has gone to far, if it not already has, before a blood bath all over the world will erupt.
Out with mosques and we don't have to listen to them whine, churches are not allowed in their countries, nor jewish people or unbelievers are welcome in their countries.
May be in the future when these people are more civilied and see the mistakes in the Qaran that this could be changed.
Is their a country who has the guts to stand up to those Mohammedans?
"what precisely is 'neuroscience'..."

Apparently the Nobel Committee thought it was something, for some years ago it awarded the Nobel in Medicine to Torsten Wiesel and David Hubel, and would have given it as well to Stephen Kuffler, had he not died a few weeks before the award was announced.
Reminds me of the chill I got up and down my spine waiting in a drop-add line at the University of Florida about twenty five years ago when a thick Middle Eastern accent burst out loudly with "NO! Nuclear engineering ONLY!"
I think he got it.
The recent expansion of collaborative ventures between the science and engineering colleges of U.S. universities and their Middle East counterparts is very disturbing. If knowledge really is power, then we should be doing everything we can to limit the easy acquisition of such knowledge by those countries and cultures that pose a threat to us, not going out of our way to provide it to them at taxpayer's expense.
Why spend centuries and trillions of dollars accumulating the knowledge to climb our way out of the caves, only to freely give the cavemen the knowledge that could destroy us? Why encourage the systematized development of our enemy's technical capability?
Transferring advanced manufacturing capability to these countries, even as we de-industrialize our own, is nothing short of suicidal.
However, if we must have educational exchange, and we're too squeamish to promote our own culture, I suggest we encourage feminist studies, and encourage the Marxist, "critical theory", navel gazing horseshit over there instead in the West. In fact, send those "professors" to the Middle East. Yes, teach them postmodern science and engineering. Let them waste their time and money on that claptrap for a few decades.
How about some ITAR restrictions on basic knowledge trade until they prove themselves able to handle the responsibilities inherent in 21st century science and technology?
They would hate Lady Liberty bearing the beacon of Freedom over the globe, wouldn't they? A representational image in human form, emblematic of all that is anathema to the Muslim psyche, and not just a fixture of the Big Apple, but a potent, majestic symbol of America to the peoples of the world.
We shower the Muslims of the world with our wealth, our technology, our medicine, and welcome them with open arms, and free access to our absolutely magnificent society. The Muslims repay us with mass murder and a genocidal hatred for the ages.
I really wish we weren't reading all this information at all. Can't anyone in the gubmint keep their yaps shut?
"Her medical condition is that, she was shot in the abdomen. There are stitches that run from the breast plate area down to the belly button area...layers and layers of tissue have been sewn, sutured. We have heard reports that she has lost a kidney; we don't know if those are accurate but we are concerned about that. There has been intestinal damage, part of the intestines, we understand, have been removed," according to Elaine Whitman Sharpe, one of a team of three attorneys present for Siddique.
Well, you see Elaine, if someone grabs a gun and starts shooting it is not the obligation of those being shot at to get hit and die. They actually have the right to defend themselves and take out the offensive shooter, whether that person is a petite mother of three and neuroscientist and whether CAIR likes it or not.
One side note that struck me as funny, she "had...detailed information on weapons of mass destruction...in her handbag." When men marvel at all the crap we women keep in our purses I'm sure they never expected anything like that.
One noose + one terrorist = less trouble.
Funny thing I was listening Monday morning on NPR news where they were interviewing her imam who said she was a nice kid doing charity work in the neighborhood. The NPR announcer mad it sound like the FBI was persecuting a frail, 90 pound little girl as if she was some big, bad terrorist. I wonder if they'll update their perceptions with these ABC news clips.
The quantity and diversity of materials found on her when captured makes me a bit suspicious. I can't find the article that describes her capture, but I do remember they picked her up for acting suspicious near a government building. If she was doing recon, why would she be carrying all this stuff? Spreading false info is common in all wars.
The first scenario that came to mind was a bunch of fake emails implicating innocent muslims. We act on the info and suddenly have egg on our face for arresting a bunch of muslims with no further proof.
The terrorists are evil, not stupid.
(especially this one)
"Funny thing I was listening Monday morning on NPR news where they were interviewing her imam who said she was a nice kid doing charity work in the neighborhood."
Muslim charity work is far different that Christian charity work..
"Funny thing I was listening Monday morning on NPR news where they were interviewing her imam who said she was a nice kid doing charity work in the neighborhood."
They always say that. Standard excuse number 1.
Muslims don't invent, they merely copy, sometimes rather well. They use the ingenuity of others to advance their warped agenda. This woman is a case in point. Sick stuff, but real nonetheless because Islam is real, though horribly misdirected (it starts with its founder, a brutal copier of the first dimension).
Islam is a study in man's capacity to use man's knowledge and inventions for ill purposes. The calamity which is Islam, at least for now, continues to burden mankind with its designs. And what a waste of a mind this woman in the spotlight has exhibited. All fine minds in the cause of any totalitarian ideology are a waste. Ah, there have been many of them.
There are entire fields that, I'm afraid, simply must be put off-limits, to the extent possible, to students from Muslim countries, and to Muslim students from anywhere.
by Hugh
Absolutely. Since it's all but impossible to do domestically, the best we can do at the moment is end all higher education for Muslims born in other countries. They'd probably be reduced to degrees in religion, history and the arts.
There can be no Muslim geneticists, doctors, researchers, engineers of any kind trained in the West. Medicine, agriculture and other seemingly benign fields will provide the base level of knowledge for WMD. Someone as bright as this woman seems to be will find the rest of her training elsewhere. The Middle East is not without centers of learning. There will always be Russian schools.

It is sad that we know this women has been captured.
I am so glad that Jihad-Jane was caught and exposed for her ties to Boston.
I say this because Maher Arar pull a scam on Canadian Tax-Payers with the help or Nihad Awad and CAIR , the Arar's went on a Globe-trotting mission that included a radical Mosque in Boston .
Ever since Arar got his $12'000'000.00 for what Jordan did to him and not Canadians , he has been very quiet and I noticed that CAIR has now purged their video Archive of Awad telling the CTV.ca Media that CAIR supported the Arar's since 2002 and that CAIR was happy for the Lawsuit money from Racial-Profiling and Islamophobia by Canada.
I jusy hope I live long enough to see those weasels at CAIR and Maher Arar himself try to follow through with his Lawsuit against the USA that denied him entry to the USA at JFK airport when he deplaned by himself from Tunisia as a Young/Sunni/Muslim/male/Syrian with a Canadian passport .
Arar's own website posts his original failed Lawsuit against Jordan which just happens to be only a few months befor his $400'000'000.00 Lawsuit against us Canadian tax-payers , the Arar's were never Officially deemed "Innocent" but merely discribed by a Judges as never Breaking any laws while in Canada and that no solid evidence showed any ties to Al-Qaeda or global Terror groups within canada.
That's Legalese speak to avoid another Lawsuit from CAIR and the Arar's because CAIR's lawyers coached the Arar's to avoid a Courtroom Trial where real Evidence would expose the truth and force Maher to explain his Gun permit in 1992 and the data disc and Hard drives found in his attic and walls as if they were hidden.
Nail the Ba$tard , and send a message to all those death-cult idiots wanting to die for a misogenyistic pedophile that the West is fed-up with the BS like Honour-Killings, Burkas,Halal food, prayer breaks ,treason ,financial Jihad , and the career Victims that call 9-11 for the slightest offence or hurt feelings.
Maybe Michael Moore was right about Bush , he should have rounded-up all the Arabs and Muslims so they couldn't leave the USA until they proved they weren't linked to the 9/11 mass murder by 19 followers of the Pedophile woman-hater orphan .

Bush should have done a lot but allhe did was to lie to Americans while pay his extended Jihadi-family in Riyadh with American blood and money. That was all Bush was capable of, given his failed business, funded by his Jihadi family in Riyadh.
Americans fall for Bush lies every time, paying with their blood and money.
This woman's capture makes the world in general and OUR COUNTRY in particular, safer!
Whatever it takes to get her Secrets MUST be done, including 'chemicals'.

You are correct sir, however, this is a hardcore jihadi warrior, not unlike the Viet Cong. And an educated one, at that.
Neurosciences...hmmm...this means she is well aware of the benefits and grevious detriment it can be to be an organism with an advanced nervous system, with millions of pain receptors, and a central nervous system that does not deal well with sensory deprivation.
Dumbledoresarmy...this woman would turn the interrogation on YOU...make YOU cry...and probably convince you to join Islam. You still have no idea that we are at war with malevolent death-creatures. Nice people with families really should leave the very distasteful business at hand to people more adept and hardened by lifes' unforgettable lessons.
Bring her to me. I will get every single scrap of evidence out of her and more.

("Muslim charity work is far different that Christian charity work.")
What's the difference between a Christian and a Muslim? A Christian willingly gives up his life so that many can live. A Muslim willingly gives up his life so that many can die.
That pretty much sums it up, don't you think??
Get them out of our universities, get them out of our country, and, while we're at it, send the nut-job lib professors with them!!
Sample Interrogation:
Day 1
Ms. Aafia Siddique - I have photoshopped an image of you having intercourse with a Jewish man, and I will be spreading it worldwide across every available media and internet outlet, in addition to your entire family, relatives and neighborhood. You see, I am not going to touch a hair on your head. Your own relatives are going to stone you to death as soon as we release you smack-dab in the middle of your own muslim neighborhood.
Also, I will let it be known that you have given up all secrets including names and whereabouts of your fellow jihadis.
It is really too bad they are such a paranoid and unforgiving sort...I'll bet they can't afford to let you live.
Day 2
Ms. Aafia Siddique - we have located some of your relatives and they are very angry with you. In fact, they are right outside this very prison, eager to have a chat with you...they are very dishonored at your behavior with that Jewish man.
Day 3
Etc., etc., etc.
- Isabella - you observed (re. the fact that this female jihadist "had...detailed information on weapons of mass destruction...in her handbag,") 'When men marvel at all the crap we women keep in our purses I'm sure they never expected anything like that.'
I must say I had the exact same thought. And it rings true, in a weird sort of way. Women *do* put everything important in their handbags. It's just that what this female thought important was rather ...different.
As for you, 'No More Ham Ed' - WTF? You seem to have completely misread what I was talking about.
When I wrote the words ' interrogation dream team' I should have said: 'these are the people I would like to see the American government involving in the interrogation'. That is: a team of people who know Islam and its texts, its history and all its manifold deceptions inside-out and back-to-front - for example, note that my list includes a set of steely-minded apostates!
What the HELL gave you the idea that *I* was fantasising about being in charge of, or taking part in, that interrogation process!!! Because that is the only assumption that explains the rest of your post.
Do you *really* believe that this female would cut any ice with, say, Wafa Sultan, if she (the jihadist) were in the hot seat and Ms Sultan was involved in the interrogation (or even if Ms Sultan were *observing* the interrogation, or videotape of same, and making notes upon it, for the interrogator's benefit?).
You shouldn't have been fantasising about Ms Siddiqui's supposed magical ability to convert *me* by a mere trifling effort of words - you should have been fantasising about her ability to thus reduce to tears, in an open conversation, sans coercion [that is, sans any power of coercion against *them*], and to abjectly convert to Islam one or more of the following: Raymond Ibrahim, Robert Spencer, Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina, Anglican Canon Patrick Sookhdeo, Wafa Sultan, Nonie Darwish, and Phyllis Chesler. Note that this list contains no less than five Apostates from Islam. I doubt she'd persuade *them* to come back 'home' in a hurry!
It is *them* (Spencer et al) - not me! - whom you should have been imagining as the inept and useless sissies who would not know how to answer Siddiqui's arguments or see through her taqiyya and kitman!
And then you start fantasising, salivating almost, about me being made to cry, and converting to Islam...NOT in a situation, say, where *I* was a prisoner in an Iranian or Pakistani dungeon and Ms Siddiqui were in charge of interrogation with drugs and torture equipment at her disposal and my family for hostages, but in an open conversation where Ms Siddiqui could *not* use force against me...do you realize what an appalling insult you are levelling at me? (Do you think she could have converted me to Islam in a conversation on an Internet forum, or in a university coffee shop? Really? When the core and centre of my life is my word sworn and given to my Lord Jesus? "No other name...").
Is it that because I'm a housewife and a mother and a 'nice person', that you're assuming I'm gutless and mentally weak?
What 'da'wa' could Ms Siddiqui offer, what arguments present (and remember: the scenario is NOT one in which *she* has me under the scimitar!) that I have not heard ad nauseam from the taqiyya artists, the Mohammedan Boggarts and Dementors who pop up over and over at this website, saying the same old same old, over and over?
I should *hope* that 33 years as a practising, praying Christian, not to mention sitting at Mr Spencer's and Mr Fitzgerald's feet for the past two-three years, and my basic awareness of the facts ( for example, of the vicious antisemitism and sheer bizarrerie of the Muslim thought-world) would anchor me sufficiently to withstand any kind of Muslim da'wa however cleverly presented, especially in any situation where I was not suffering any form of physical coercion and could walk out anytime I chose!
As has been mentioned Aafia is bright....and I don't mean that she used good quality soap.
It is indeed sad that she wanted to use her talents in this manner....does she not understand that muslims too could have been killed in any attacks
....the death of any turk in particular would have been tragic in their sick operations.... even I could be about in the vicinity doing business....it's not right!
I know that she will be given the best medical treatment that kuffar can offer...this is so that she can cough up secrets known only to her....because I love America....I hope they are successful...but ultimately whether she lives or dies will be Allah's SWT will.
Her radicalization was probably reinforced by some of her teachers in the elite schools she went to.
This should force a rethinking on the part of all those nice people who tell us that exposure to the freedom and other benefits of the West, along with interfaith dialogues to enable Muslims and Christians and Jews to get to know each other, will lessen the attraction of terrorism. This woman attended, among other institutions, a university named after the first Jewish Justice of the Supreme Court and that still has a large component of Jewish students and faculty members, whom she pretended not to hate. She lived for years in the Boston-Cambridge area, which is full of zealous multiculturalists. She doubtless enjoyed all the modern conveniences that only the West has invented. And she certainly knows all the arguments that her intended victims proffer, about the supposed roots of Islamic terrorism in poverty and ignorance. Exposure to our way of life did not have the effect that our multiculturalist neighbors predict it will have.
But will my neighbors in Massachusetts draw the obvious conclusion, that it's a waste of effort to offer empirical evidence to a Muslim and expose him to our way of life? Of course not; all extreme ideologies are impervious to reason and evidence, and that includes the ideology of multiculturalism.

Give her no medical treatment at all, let her wounds infect and fester, until she is in such agony and fear of death she will beg to tell what she knows.

hey - hindenberg - what will you do if she wakes up in the hospital with a big happy smile on her face and her eyes all lit up instead of dead and blank, and starts telling everyone that Yeshua of Nazareth stood by her bed and healed her, and she isn't a Muslim any more, and then - in order to 'show sorry' for her past wickedness - she starts singing to the Feds like a happy little canary, rattling off all the names and dates and places and confessing everything and unravelling the whole spiders' web of jihad plots in the USA and it all turns out to be accurate...hey?
Now that *would* be fun, wouldn't it?
Stranger things have happened (google 'Daniel Shayesteh', 'Exodus from Darkness' to find out more).
Nothing is impossible with YHWH the Liberator. (Whereas, all Allah the Enslaver gives people is death and darkness and pain and ignorance).
OT a bit:
Mr Fitzgerald, I am sorry my query above about 'neuroscience' may have come across as a bit flippant. I was genuinely wondering what it was, because - believe it or not - despite a quite wide and eclectic reading, I simply did not recall encountering the word 'neuroscience', in any memorable context, before reading it in this female's curriculum vitae as given in the posted article.
I did a little internet research and now know a bit more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroscience
(there seem to be lots of links to quite reputable sources, and there are links to potted biographies of the three scientists whom you mentioned)
It would be very, very interesting to find out what was the specific topic, and content, of Ms Siddiqui's PhD thesis; whether and what practical research she did, and so on.
I would be fascinated to know how she 'squared' her obvious Muslim piety, Paradise is in the Shade of Swords, and all the rest of it, with the aggressively secular tone and drift of some who work in her chosen subject, at least as described in the discussion of the subject of 'neuroethics' as linked under the main article:
'The Neuroscience Worldview'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroethics
"Neuroethics also encompasses the ethical issues raised by neuroscience as it affects our understanding of the world and of ourselves in the world.
"For example, if everything we do is physically caused by our brains, which are in turn a product of our genes and our life experiences, how can we be held responsible for our actions?
"The question of whether and how personal responsibility is compatible with neuroscience is a central one for neuroethics.
"The widely held assumption that people have a body and a soul would also appear to be incompatible with the worldview emerging from neuroscience.
"As neuroscience teaches us more about the way the brain instantiates personality, love and moral values, there is less and less reason to hypothesize any immaterial component of a person, and consequently any possibility of an immortal soul.
" Thus neuroscience calls into question some of the most deeply held religious beliefs."
On this site people have wondered, quite frequently, whether common Muslim practices such as the rote memorisation and recitation of the entire Qur'an from early childhood on (not in translation but in its archaic 'Arabic', complete gobbledygook to the average non-Arab Muslim child) and the repetitive forehead-banging of the really devout Muslims (hard enough to produce the prayer-callous or zebibah) do nasty things, at a physical level, to the electronic circuitry of Muslim brains.
I wonder whether anyone dared propose scientific investigation of *that* possibility (via MRIs and so on) to Ms Siddiqui, while she was in Brandeis?
@dda,
If she starts to sing the truth...than that is good...I'm all for it.
