Chicago-area official won't apologize for anti-Sharia email

Windy City anti-dhimmitude: "The e-mail's basic message was that people coming to this country should adapt." And that ain't "hate." An update on this story. "Frankfort Township Assessor Paul Ruff stands by e-mail on Islam, immigrants: Official does not apologize for distributing missive in June," by Mary Owen for the Chicago Tribune, August 20 (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):

Despite outrage from the local Muslim community, a Frankfort Township official did not apologize Wednesday for circulating an e-mail with anti-Islamic sentiments.

"The e-mail's basic message was that people coming to this country should adapt," Township Assessor Paul Ruff said in a statement. "This wasn't a hateful e-mail, but one that touched upon a sentiment in this country and around the world that immigrants have to adapt to their new homes."

Statements in the e-mail were attributed to former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who a few years ago ignited controversy with criticism of Islam and statements asserting that immigrants need to adapt to their new country.

Actually Howard did not say the things attributed to him in the email.

Ruff said he did not write the content of the e-mail, and its origins were unknown.

The flap has drawn the ire of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Chicago and members of a mosque in Frankfort, prompting residents and religious leaders to hold a town hall meeting last week to discuss discrimination against Muslims. Ruff did not attend the meeting.

"It's kind of a shock," Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the council, said Wednesday. "Clearly this is offensive behavior on behalf of a public official."

It's kind of a shock to me that a spokesman for a group that has been named an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror funding case, and that has had several of its officials arrested and convicted on various terror-related charges, and has had several of its officials make statements about wanting Islamic government in the U.S., is taken seriously as a moderate group by the Chicago Tribune.

Ruff held a news conference at the township hall to defend himself against critics of the e-mail, which he acknowledges forwarding in June to people he knew.

Two Will County sheriff's deputies were present at the township hall in case of a disturbance. Before Ruff spoke, officials distributed copies of letters to the editor from a local newspaper and played audio recordings of voice-mail messages from people who agree with Ruff.

Among the voice-mail messages were statements such as: "Thank you for standing up for our way of life" and "It's about time someone had the you-know-what to speak up."

Rehab criticized Ruff's use of the township hall for his news conference and was frustrated by the distribution of letters to the editor.

"If we were unhappy with his behavior before, this is even worse," he said. "He can't keep hiding behind somebody else's name and passing out material that is hateful to support his perspective."

Ruff said he is not a bigot or a racist, noting he has black and Hispanic neighbors. However, he did reiterate sentiments in the e-mail that denounced Islam and said the religion "institutionalizes discrimination against women and non-Muslims."

Hmmm, now there's a phrase that sounds familiar: I used it here and will again below. Might Mr. Ruff drop in to Jihad Watch on occasion? If so, welcome, sir, and bravo!

Tariq Khan, a board trustee for the American Islamic Association, which operates the Frankfort mosque, said he believes Ruff's response will further strain relations with the Muslim community.

"It's unfortunate that he's been so stubborn in not apologizing," said Khan, who arrived at the township hall moments after the news conference ended. "It's time to move on. He is a fine public servant, but I feel he made an error in judgment."...

Rehab and Khan are playing a dangerous game in demanding that Ruff apologize. If it is "hate" now to say that Muslims who want Islamic law should leave the country, then the claims of moderation that CAIR and other Muslim groups have made for years are shown to be hollow. On the one hand we are supposed to believe that every Muslim in the United States completely accepts American pluralism and Constitutional rule, and has no intention of imposing Sharia here at any time in the future. If you don't believe that, you're a venomous "Islamophobe."

And yet if that were true, shouldn't Rehab and Khan be saying that they agree with this email, and will aggressively resist any agitation among Muslims to replace American Constitutional government with Sharia? By labeling this email "hate," aren't they admitting that many, if not most, American Muslims do want Sharia here? And isn't the presence of a large group that wants to destroy the ideas of the equality of all people before the law and the freedom of speech, and replace them with a legal system that institutionalizes discrimination against women and non-Muslims, something that Americans should be concerned about?

Is it really "hate" to want to defend republican pluralism and resist a totalitarian and draconian system that establishes an elite class and relegates others to permanent inferior status?

"It's kind of a shock," Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the council, said

That someone dares to say you should adapt certainly is a shock, Mr Rehab.

Last week many of us sent e-mails of support to Mr. Ruff, and received a reply from him in return. Here's his reply:

"I just wanted to take a moment to extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to everyone who has contacted me over the last several weeks to express their support. The phone calls, e-mails and letters have been overwhelmingly positive.

As most of you know, the media coverage has been much less positive, and in consideration of this I will be holding a press conference at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 20th.

The press conference will be held at the Township Building, 11008 W. Lincoln Highway, Frankfort, in the meeting room available to all residents.

I will have a Will County sheriff’s department deputy available to make sure there will no demonstrations. Please, feel free to join me as I need your support, if you can’t come I understand about this short notice.

Thanks again for your continued support and, as always, you can contact me at any time by e-mail, paulruff@msn.com or through my web site www.paulruff.org

Warmest regards,

Paul

PS, You Must read this Sundays Southtown-Star on Page A-10; you will not be disappointed.

One thing I said, and I'm sure many others did too, was "Don't apologize!" And he's not! So far, anyway. Stand firm, Mr. Ruff!

"The phone calls, e-mails and letters have been overwhelmingly positive." --Paul Ruff

I love that sentence!

Wow! There was more anti-dhimmitude at work here than I first realized. A news conference with officials distributing supportive letters and the audio of suppoprtive phone calls? As well as an upfront and accurate acknowledgement that islam "institutionalizes discrimination against women and non-Muslim" . . .!

Congratulations, Mr. Ruff!

"It's unfortunate that he's been so stubborn in not apologizing," said Khan

Usually our bullying tactics work.

Paul Ruff still needs our support. Here's his link:

This occasion, and all such occasions, should be used as a Teaching Moment. What is it that Islam inculcates? What is the duty of Jihad? What does the Shari'a say about the treatment of women and non-Muslims? Now is the time for those who support Ruff's right to make what should be seen as utterly unremarkable remarks, and to defend him from an organization, CAIR, in up to its neck in all kinds of unseemly things, and disturbing associations (spell it all out, in speeches at public meetings and phone calls to talkshows and letters to the editor) to go beyond that and to quote chapter and verse from Qur'an, stories from the Hadith, and of course details from the life of the Perfect Man (uswa hasana, al-insan al-kamil) Muhammad, beginning with the delight he took in the decapitation of hundreds of bound prisoners of the Banu Qurayza, his attack on the inoffensive farmers of the Khaybar Oasis, his pleasure on hearing of the murder of Asma bint Marwan, and so much more -- and of course including his "betrothal" to little Aisha when she was six, playing with her toys, and his "marriage" (and consummation of that "marriage") to her when she was nine (the very age that Ayatollah Khomeini made legal when he came, as a good Muslim and learned theologian, to power).

Give much better than you get. Be informed, and keep informing others.

Let CAIR and others learn how all occasions will inform against them.

I say:
Not a shock to me. It's Obama's home territory. Very, VERY liberal. And let's face it, liberals in general are not exactly friendly to Christians, or those with Judeo-Christian values. So of course the (liberal) media will side with and pander to any group that is against Christianity. Including CAIR, "a group that has been named an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror funding case, and that has had several of its officials arrested and convicted on various terror-related charges, and has had several of its officials make statements about wanting Islamic government in the U.S."

"It's kind of a shock," Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the council[CAIR-Chicago], said Wednesday. "Clearly this is offensive behavior on behalf of a public official."

Well, I've seen much more offensive behavior, and heard much more offensive language from national politicians. Just listen to all their lies about how Islam is the ROP, and how any danger comes only from a tiny minority of Moslems.
Ruff for Congress!

While I fully support Paul Ruff, I think he needs to clarify the remark in the email.

Muslims who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Jews who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Christians who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Atheists who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Buddhists who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Hindus who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Whore politicians who want Shari'ah should leave the country.
Anybody who wants Shari'ah should leave the country.

It's a simple, inoffensive concept, Rehab, Khan. By demanding he apologize, you have clearly identified yourselves as wanting Shari'ah. Get the #$@% out!!!

Go Ruff!!! Ruff, Ruff, Ruff, ....

I believe PR did visit the JW article about him! Those same words are too coincidental.

Visit and learn, Mr. Ruff. Visit and learn A LOT, esp. since now you've got a public altercation going with loud and aggressive Mohammedans. You need all the intellectual ammunition about Islam you can get.

Get the #$@% out!!!

Go Ruff!!! Ruff, Ruff, Ruff, ....

Really. We have Barbarians demanding apologies from us in the 21st century? What the hell happened for that utter travesty to exist?

Please - do not apologize, Mr. Ruff.

Ruff held a news conference at the township hall to defend himself against critics of the e-mail, which he acknowledges forwarding in June to people he knew.

Forwarded to people he knew . . .or thought he knew . . . like (?)-

"To make these kind of comments against a group of people who are so loving, and so caring – I was very, very offended by that," said Jan Shaulis, Christian co-chair of the Southwestern Interfaith Team.

Jan Shaulis needs to acquaint herself with the doctrine of these 'loving people' and recognize that their doctrinal 'love' doesn't extend to the Jan Shaulis' of this world.

Bravo Mr. Ruff. More please.

The pro (those who want) sharia list posted by Concerned Citizen above really only applies to the first listed, muslims. Hindus and Wiccans may want sharia law, but they wont fight to implement it, but muslims will.

Muslims are not going to assimilate.

It is difficult for any immigrant to assimilate.
Humans are more comfortable being around people more like themselves. 'Birds of a feather flock together'.
Thats why there are, in the US, large area's of ethnic people. This is natural and understandable,
but it has its dark side.

The darkside of Islam is that it will fight tooth and nail to be dominant and impose its laws.

Dominant over what? Everyone on the list, who collectively are dar al-harb.

Every immigrant brings with them to our shores, dar al-harb, except muslims who bring with them dar al Islam.

Dar al harb can assimilate with dar al-harb, but dar al-Islam cannot.

It must fight harb until all submit and worship Allah.

So warfare is what muslims bring with them. Not always violent, but always warfare.

Allah wills it. Its in his book...

Stop muslim immigration...

Thanks for the link to Mr. Ruff's site. I called the number attempting to leave a supportive message and he answered.

This guy gets it. He knows all about sharia law.

More people should support his message. He said he's being hammered now.

His website will be updated later today to show these news conferences in detail, not just the media soundbites that are being played.

Absolutely! Time to rally around and lend support. Who know, maybe some of the fence squatters will wake up and take notice?

Duh,

Of course, the point was to recenter the discussion on Shari'ah. The deliberately obfuscating charges of bigotry relate to the use of the term 'Muslim', attempting to reframe the debate so as to appeal to the politically correct forces of 'religious tolerance', 'anti-racism', 'multiculturalism', etc.

This is NOT a Muslim issue, and should not be allowed to be reframed as such. Some (Muslims Against Shariah) would say it is not even an Islamic issue (a debate for another thread).

This is a non-negotiable human rights issue.

This is the unabashed declaration of the moral superiority of Western legal codes.

This is our shouting our proud allegiance to our defining national documents and system of government.

This is a demand for minimum personal ideological requirements for citizenship, now and forever.

AND IF THEY CAN'T BE AMERICAN BY THE ABOVE STANDARDS, THEN THEY SHOULD GET OUT!!!

And no American should ever be impuned for saying so. Such a statement is the most basic, natural expression of patriotic pride in our country in response to a call for crass barbarism.

You're welcome, CapGig! Wow, you actually spoke to Mr. Ruff. Bravo!

Easy to use, takes PayPal.

I'm really not sure why CAIR would choose to focus on an Assessor in Frankfort, IL, but that was the first time I felt compelled to make a political donation in 2008. Let's help this man win.

dm60462,

Thanks for the youtube link.

Darcy:

Yes, I actually spoke with Paul Ruff. He asked me if I was a reporter!

I told him that Jihad Watch had the story online, which was a mistake since it is actually on the Dhimmi Watch side. Hope he finds it.

Concerned Citizen:

I understood your point. Anyone wanting to make inroads into our society with their own system of laws protected by a fig leaf "religion" should be deported. We have a constitution and should not tolerate or allow these mini-caliphates to begin dotting the American landscape.

Hi, best wishes to Mr Ruff and why indeed should he apologise?

Thanks for clarifying that former Aussie PM John Howard DID NOT say the things attributed to him in the email.

A few months ago a friend sent me an email about a certain situation and asked me to pass it on; which I did. Another friend to whom I'd sent this onto, emailed me back and berated me for doing so - he had checked the background and found it to be a hoax. Now I check things and do not just blindly accept what is sent/what I'm told.
