These and other comments came in response to the attack on Monday in the northwestern Chinese region of Xinjiang, which killed 16 policemen.
The attack came four days ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games due to begin in the Chinese capital, Beijing later this week.
"At this moment, China is not a country at war with us. If there are attacks against Muslims, these hit the dispossessed that must leave those lands and move to Islamic countries."
"Bothersome actions like these are not foreseen by (Islamic) Sharia law or good sense."
"What interest do we have in turning China against Muslims at the moment?" al-Asnam asked....
"At this moment, holy warriors (mujahadeen) do not need to open a new front with China," said al-Asif al-Harashi in a comment discussing Monday's attack in Xinjiang.
"We must be very careful and have patience. We do not need to rush and shout 'God is great!' or justify this type of action. For all I know, I have never heard any of the al-Qaeda leaders threaten China."...

My guess is that this sudden AQ tap-dance is because the Chinese brutally killed some Muslims close to AQ and sent the bodies a/o parts to them as/with a not so subtle warning.

Interesting to read, and I had been asking myself the same question.
I had not been expecting much to happen in China, and certainly not during the Olympics, as I had thought that the Jihadis were in general agreement that London 2012 was going to be "the big one".
Compared to Beijing, London has much to offer. For example:
many of them live there anyway, so they can walk or take a bus or tube,
greater Jihadist penetration of police and government departments will loophole
security defences,
the BBC coverage will be more sympathetic,
the national government, especially if Labour is still in power, will be more likely to reward an attack with major concessions than with a bullet in the back of the head.
Al-Asnam's worry suggests that the TIP are working in relative isolation, and are thus
missing this bigger picture.
China would, imho, rather divert the TIP's energies into attacking the West in some way,
probably in Afghanistan, but what if the TIP were able to carry out a major and humiliating attack inside China ? Might China then decide to actually hurt the wider Jihad ?
One possible quick and easy target might be the government of the Sudan, which China could change so as to give China greater control Sudan's oil and also make it harder for Jihadis to find any refuge there. And if China got a taste for that kind of action, who knows where it might end ?

Not while we have press waiting to win a Pulitzer and show the US practicing summary executions without giving them "a fair trial", and then mutilating the bodies for good measure. How do you spell "war crime"? Remember their glee at Abu Ghraib and the US military "torturing" prisoners? We couldn't even put underwear on their heads without MPs going to the stockade.
Sure the kids were stupid and took all those pictures but MSNBC and all the rest didn't have to wallow in it the way they did. Chris Matthews spent half an hour running through the same slide show for weeks on end, and he wasn't the only one.
Our press will never let the military handle terrorist attacks like the Soviets did, unless maybe it's done in an Obama administration. We can't keep a secret. Someone will blab. Even an attack on terrorists is called a war crime if it kills innocents or hits the wrong car.

China may be off the radar, but I wonder if the olympics are. The Olympics are the quintessential celebration of western Civilization and values. Combine that with the dense media coverage, they make a tempting target. Hope the planners are factoring all this in.

Just how much say so, do M.I muslims, Al-Qaeda or otherwise, have with Muslim Uighurs? Did they check with the Uighurs first? Maybe the Uighurs have no intention of 'letting China be', for the moment'. Maybe the moment for them is now. It's certainly going to be 'now' for any of the perpetrators that China catches. For most of them, 'now' won't last very long.
If China handles this 'delicately', it will be out of character for them, and will invite more attacks. If China comes on too strong, it may cause Al-Qaeda to change its mind and make China a priority.

China, because of its stupid one child policy, now has 100 million more males than females. Many of these young men are approaching adulthood without any prospects of marriage.
Because of this, some bloggers are advocating that China use Muslim terrorism as an excuse to invade Afghanistan and Pakistan, exterminate the Muslim men and liberate millions of women to marry Chinese men, simultaneously freeing these women from both poverty and Islamic backwardness.
China is "not a priority" because of how, as Muslims know, China will react. So what's the best way to make any Infidel country -- say, the United States -- "not a priority"? It's to make Muslims fear that they, and Islam, will be made to suffer as they would be made to suffer were China to be attacked.
There's a moral there somewhere.
