Arab media around the Middle East this week reacted hysterically after learning that a Jewish professor at Haifa University is using verses from the Koran to teach Arab Muslim psychology students how to treat their future Muslim patients.Right; might make them think that "human dignity" and "kindness" are on a par with jihad and global domination.Professor Ofer Grosbard developed the Quranet course using specially chosen verses from the Muslim holy book to help students reinforce in their patients concepts like respect, responsibility, honesty, dignity and kindness.

Despite the fact that the Quranet course was developed together with 15 Muslim students and was reviewed by three Islamic clerical figures, Muslim authorities around the Middle East denounced the project because it was overseen by a Jew.
Speaking to Gulf News, Dr. Abdullah Al Mutlaq of the Senior Ulema Board in Saudi Arabia insisted that all Jews hate Islam, and that Prof. Grosbard's efforts to emphasize the Koran's few lessons in human dignity and kindness would give Muslims the wrong impression of their religion.
Dr. Manae Abdel-Halim Mahmoud, professor of Koranic sciences at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, told an Egyptian newspaper that the Israeli project "aims to tarnish the image of Islam by giving wrong interpretation of the noble Koran."Palestinian Authority officials also blasted the project, stating that the current prevalent interpretation of Islam that has led to so much regional death and destruction is the correct interpretation, and that Prof. Grosbard's kinder, gentler selection of Koranic verses is misleading.

All is well. No Muslims were "HUMILIATED(!)" by this erroneous teaching. The Arab media is "hysterical", but that's nothing new.

It's too bad that the authors of this article insisted on editorializing: "reacted hysterically" does not clarify anything except the author's bent, and the following content is similar: "the prevalent interpretation that has led to so much regional death and destruction."
Also, the authors should have included the exact quotes of Mutlaq and the PA officials. The tone of the rest leaves me in doubt as to whether the author's phrasing of those quotes accurately reflects the meaning.

Prof. Grosbard is completely distorting the Koran. He's "cherry-picking" the verses about kindness, and "taking out of context" the verses about human dignity.
Two things are at work here.
(1) The Arab media is invariably government controlled, and Arab government wants the Muslim masses angry and turbulent.
(2) So much for Western liberals trying to police the Islamic conscience from outside by backing Islamic "moderation"!
The "reform" of Islam must be accomplished by the conversion of Islamic peoples to Christianity. Islam itself is inherently violent and sanctifies the most violent and lustful impulses of the human heart. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that Islam is losing thousands of Africans every day, and that immigrants from Islamic countries in the West are leaving Islam.
It's just not right without the Death and Destruction.

Suppose the Western world said "We need to wipe Islam from the face of the earth" or "Muslims are pigs" -- they'd go ballistic. They can't even handle a cartoon.
Islam means Intolerance, Hate, Murder, Torture, Fascism. The only Muslims that think it's peaceful are either (1) not really Muslims, don't understand the Koran, don't listen to the Islamic leaders, or (2) just following the Koranic suggestions that they should appear tolerant to non-believers (everyone who's not a muslim) until they are powerful enough to smite (kill) all non-muslims.
The only "innocent" people in the world are those who haven't been exposed to the "wonders" of Islam and the so-called "miracle" of the Koran. Once an innocent is exposed to Islam, if they convert, there may be peace, but if not, they become non-believers, infidels, or worse, and can be killed without remorse by other Muslims.
What other religion imposes the death sentence on those who change their religious beliefs, catholics becoming jews, jews becoming christians, that's okay, but a Muslim becoming a Christian -- the death sentence. A Christian exposing a muslim to the bible or Christianity -- the death sentence.
Religion of Peace -- That phrase is a hoax. They are simply living in the 7th century, stuck in time, practicing a religion spread by the sword, and a religion completely intolerant to everyone who doesn't adopt it.
I believe the biggest concern here by the "Middle East Experts" is that the course book will only be about 6 pages long, and the psychology students will see how "peaceful" islam really is, and become apostates.
A student of psychology is obviously interested in human thought processes. And, anytime you have a non-muslim teaching about islam (whether teaching muslims or non-muslims) is going to point out the lack of "peacful" passages compared to the violent passages (Robert comes to mind here).
And islamic scholars that constantly preach the violence and leave out the peace keeps their "followers" in a state of frenzied hatred for infidels (thus explaining the Friday prayer seethfests). And if they teach peace and co-existance with non-believers, they lose their following (and associated contributions).
We've seen the same thing with overzealous Christian "leaders" (Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker etc etc). Once the followers no longer believe in the leader, they quit following and take their money with them.
It's all about power, wealth and control.

I find the reaction of the moslems to this far less shocking than the fact that a Jewish professor in Haifa is teaching moslems students 'moslem psychology' by using so-called non-violent parts of the KKKorag when everything in daily life in Israel LOUDLY shouts the exact opposite.
What the good professor is doing is called "Verdrängung" in Freudian terminology.
