BAGHDAD - Iraqi police publicly questioned a teenage girl after she was allegedly caught wearing an explosives belt, parading her in front of reporters and pressing her to confess she was planning a suicide bombing. [...]The girl gave her first name as Rania and said she was born in 1993. She appeared confused in the questioning, giving conflicting answers about whether she knew two women who put the vest packed with 33 pounds of explosives on her.
In the video of the arrest, a policeman standing next to the teenager could be heard saying that when she was picked up, she was initially unable to talk because she had been given drugs.
She denied under questioning that she planned to carry out an attack, saying she had been instructed to remove the vest when she got home.
The arrest heightened concern about a rise in suicide bombings by women. The number of female bombers has more than tripled from eight in 2007 to 29 this year, according to U.S. military officials. [...]
In the interrogation, she gives conflicting answers about whether she knew the women who gave her the vest.
"I swear to Allah that I do not know them. They were strangers," she is heard saying initially. But later she says "one of the women's names was maybe Fadhila and the other was called Widad."
When pressed about whether she knew the woman she then replied: "Yes." [...]
An Iraqi police officer said the girl came from a family of al-Qaida in Iraq supporters in Baqouba and that her father had carried out a suicide bombing. The officer said a relative is suspected of having recruited her. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information. [...]
Many Iraqi women wear long robes, ideal for covering bulky suicide vests, and Iraqi policemen hesitate to pat them down at checkpoints because of cultural taboos....
Yeah, that would create a problem. But the article goes on to say that the Daughters of Iraq are helping out.

I'm glad this article had detail about the possibilities of her recruitment, that she might have been drugged, maybe wasn't even aware of waht she was wearing, etc. The way her responses to questioning were described, I wonder if she might even be mentally retarded or handicapped. This tells us as much about her "leaders" as it does about her.
What a brave way to fight - strap explosives to a drugged and/or retarded teenage girl and turn her loose.
This also tells about the devaluation of life in general in the Islamic mind, and especially about the expendability of feminine life. Animals.

What can I say?
My own eldest daughter was born in 1993, and baptised into the Christian faith, and reared within a stable, loving, Christian family. She sings, she plays, she MSNs, she writes poetry and songs, she reads books, she goes to school, she experiments with pretty clothes and makeup, she stays up on a weekend night giggling with her friends. Her dad's eyes lit up like stars the day she was born, with that special light that all normal and sane fathers keep for their daughters; and he would, I think, protect her with his life if he had to. He would never, never lay a finger upon her in anger.
She's pretty, and happy, and loved, and cared for.
Meanwhile, little girls the age of her younger sister (born 1998) are being legally raped under cover of 'marriage' by sadistic domineering Dirty Old Men in Saudi Arabia and Yemen and Afghanistan; and girls her own age in Iraq - and, in the past, from among the 'Palestinian' Arab Muslims - are being strapped up with explosives and sent off to commit suicide whilst murdering others.
I hate, hate, hate what Islam does to human beings. I particularly detest and despise what it does to women and girls.
I've just been reading "From Cairo to Damascus" by 'John Roy Carlson' (highly recommended!).
Among other things, he tagged along with a bunch of jihadists for some time during the Arab-Israeli War in 1948. Many of them were 'high' on hashish. While in Lebanon, shortly before he completed his travels, Carlson - in a spirit of scientific curiosity - took hashish just once, to see what its effects actually were, as perceived by the user. Huge energy boost followed by massive let-down.
Carlson concluded: "I knew now why the miserable fellaheen consumed it. Hashish first made gods of them, then it enslaved and destroyed them". (Not a bad metaphor for the effects of Islam.).
One does wonder just how widespread drug-taking is and has been, always, in jihadist circles - possibly more so among the 'foot soldiers' than amongst those who use them as cannon fodder in combat; though from various of Carlson's observations it seems that the wealthy in the 'Arab world', or in the wider Islamosphere, use hashish and other substances freely for 'recreational' purposes, off the battlefield.

I am reaching the point where I am coming to suspect that there is absolutely no depth of depravity, no bizarre refinement of spiritual and physical, moral and political perversion and cruelty, that is not freely practised somewhere within the Islamosphere, without ever being condemned by the religion, indeed, tacitly or actively condoned, and without anyone showing the smallest awareness that normal, sane, healthy non-Muslim human beings might regard such practices as Evil.

But apparently, no cultural taboos about strapping on a bomb belt and blowing yourself to bits while killing scores of innocent bystanders.
Your religion really sucks when the best thing it can do for you is to stap a bomb on you and tell you to go find someone to kill..preferably someone not of your religion...
The stories about hashish turning people into crazed assassins are suspect. I've smoked hash, and all it did was make me laid back, relaxed and giggly. Later effects included killer munchies! It certainly didn't give me a "huge energy boost followed by massive let-down." That sounds more like the effects of cocaine or amphetamines. Hash certainly did not make me a god, or a slave; nor did it destroy me.
Maybe they were indulging in heroin, not hash.

Imnodhimmi - all I know is that Carlson calls it 'hasheesh'. He does mention eating a lot, which sounds like your 'killer munchies'. But the energy boost and the crash, are from his description.
Maybe it WAS heroin. It was imbibed by smoking. He made his little experiment in Lebanon. I do know that they grow poppies and make heroin in the Bekaa valley, today.

It's quite sad indeed. It does appear that she was manipulated into meeting other "family members" by her husband. (note: she's only 15)
At this "family" meeting, she was drugged and then forced to wear this vest. Other women claiming to be family members placed it on to her.
The killers probably intended to murder her and others after she reached the market.
