Arab citizens of Israel continue to pose a threat to their "nation." "Israeli Arab Members Of Islamic Jihad Cell Plotted To Target Air Force Pilots & Scientists," from Infolive, August 28:
Two Israeli Arabs suspected of setting up an Islamic Jihad cell near Ramallah and plotted to assassinate air force pilots and scientists were arrested this month by the Shin Bet.Details released for publication on Thursday revealed that Anis Zfori,a twenty year old student of the Bir Zeit University near Ramallag and Hussam Halili, a 19 year old who studies in Jordan come from the western Galilee town of Shfaram. According to the Shin Bet both admitted to contacting Islamic Jihad headquarters in Damascus and raising funds to purchase weapons.
The pair confessed to contacting Islamic Jihad's headquarters in Syria and to raising funds to buy weapons. Cell members underwent weapons training and aside from plotting to assassinate prominent Israeli air force pilots and senior university professors, also planned to perpetrate a shooting attack on an IDF post outside of Ramallah.
Zfori said that after moving to Ramallah two years ago, he became friendly with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and also befriended reporters who work at Hizbullah’s Al Manar television station. Zfori recruited Halili who he intended to use to transfer funds from Jordan to Israel. According to the Shin Bet Halili told investigators he was aware of Zfori’s plans to perpetrate terror attacks.
The two are due to appear in court next week.

Sadly even living in a country where they enjoy the right to vote, health care, equal rights for women, public education for their children (all the way through college) Israeli Arabs cannot (will not?) get past the one thing that ultimately renders them traitors: THEIR RELIGION. Islam is a sick cult whose presence in any country (particularly those providing for universal suffrage and civil rights...even for...God forbid..women!) ultimately ruins any chance of Muslims being good and loyal citizens. Their religious cult and a democratic, pluralistic society built on basic human rights, are simply inherently incompatible and no amount of education, opportunity or freedom will ever change that...It is (sadly) just the way it is.
Of course the jihadists would want to assassinate Israeli scientists. It's no coincidence that Israel is a leader in research and development of those sciences and technologies that benefit all humanity. See a recent report:

Israel leads OECD in R&D
Civilian R&D investment reached 4.7% of GDP in 2007. Israel tops the OECD in terms of civilian R&D expenditure as a proportion of GDP, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. Israel spent NIS 31.5 billion on civilian R&D expenditure, 4.7% of GDP. The OECD average was 1.7% of GDP; Japan and South Korea each spent 3.2% of GDP on R&D, and the US spent 2.2%.
Israel's civilian R&D expenditure was 4.6% in 2006. In fixed prices, Israel's expenditure on civilian R&D rose by 7.2% in 2007, over the year before, after rising by 3.3% in 2006 and 4.5% in 2005.
Most of the increase in R&D spending was by high-tech and life sciences companies, including biotechnology firms, in which spending in 2007 was 13% higher than in 2006. R&D spending by software services companies rose by 10%, R&D spending by manufacturers rose by 4.3%, and R&D spending in NPOs rose by 4.8%. However, R&D spending in universities fell a further 0.4% in 2007 after falling by 1.4% in 2006.

And this at a time when an inordinate proportion of Israel's GDP must pay for defense. Some of that does of course benefit from the R&D. But Israel would devote much more to peaceful research and education if its neighbors allowed it to.

I think we all know why Hezbollah and their bankroller, Iran, would want to eliminate Israel's top pilots.
What's the point, they'll be letting them out in a few years in some silly deal for a corpse or two.
