Opening soon in the North West Frontier Province
The Taliban soldiers on in the North West Frontier Province, defying the ban that was just put on the group. They don't like barber shops because men run the risk of coming out of them clean-shaven, or with beards at least trimmed. All the schools of Islamic jurisprudence teach that shaving one's beard is unlawful, except for the Shafi'is. The Imam Shafi'i wrote two treatises about the issue, saying in one that shaving the beard was unlawful, but in another that it was merely offensive.
In any case, when the Taliban notes that something is forbidden in Islam, they mean to enforce the prohibition. And the same thing could happen anywhere that Sharia is the highest law of the land, and those in power wish to bring the society fully into compliance with it.

MARDAN: A barber shop was destroyed in a bomb blast early on Monday. The blast also caused partial damage to several other buildings, including a private school. The local Taliban have been targeting barber shops, cinemas and music shops in the NWFP. They have also destroyed dozens of girls’ schools.
Including another one yesterday.
One of the reasons (there are so many) why Islam will eventually fail is because it produces believers in large numbers who make themselves look as though they could be doing a skit on Saturday Night Live or The Comedy Channel. But they're not doing a skit. They're doing the real thing and thus telegraphing to the world on a regular basis that Islam is for buffoons.

And why would they do this? Because they want to return to their most fundmental, i.e. 1300 A.D. period appearance. They believe this adds credibility to their cause, at least in dress, because they would be returning to the roots of the time of muhammed.
It would be like us returning to bear skins and caves.

Are they allowed to cut their hair? They have to grow beards, but I'm not sure about hair. Maybe too many shaves were offered, or the barber shop was playing infidel music.

Seems to me, that after a few years, you'd have a gawd ugly mat of hair down to your butt crack. But I guess this is perfectly acceptable.

But they're clean-shaven in the West. They must need a barbershop here and there, for when their passport photos are issued. Can't fly to Europe or America with scraggly beards. You give yourself away.
How does Islam, at least the one that thinks pictures are terrible, deal with the idea of photo id?

It's not ok to cut your hair or shave, see a movie or listen to music because these are "modern" western types of behavior? But it is ok to use western inventions like computers and cell phones (not to mention explosives and firearms)to kill people with? Why isn't the Taliban and Al Qaeda fighting us with spears and swords? Blasphemers.
