COTABATO, Philippines, Aug 5, 2008 (AFP) - Muslim separatists traded mortar fire with troops in the southern Philippines just hours after the Supreme Court stopped a land deal between them and the government, the military said Tuesday.The mortar attack by an unknown number of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels on soldiers stationed near Midsayap town lasted for about half an hour late Monday, the military said.
The rebels had taken positions in the town's outskirts, displacing more than 300 families, in violation of a 2003 ceasefire accord, the military said.
"The MILF fired about a dozen mortars toward army positions," said regional army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Julieto Ando. "We returned mortar fire, but there were no reports of casualties."
Ando said the rebels who attacked apparently ignored commands from MILF leadership to leave the area as both sides negotiated a deal on territory....

Maybe it's just me but the vision I get when I read, "MILF jihadists attack Philippine troops..." is just comical. I think these guys need a brand manager to come up with a better acronym.

Many of the Phillipine people are sick of MILF and tired of the goverment negotiating with them.
Either the goverment or the people need to rise up and exterminate MILF, then call for laws banning the muslim religion in the Phillipines.
Now that the Courts have stopped this land exchange many islamics will be coming to the Phillipines to battle. I am sure that the boats are full right now from Indonesia and Malaysia. The Phillipine people need to see if these guys can tred water for a pro-longed time, before they reach their shores.

How are these weapons getting smuggled in? It should be a lot easier to interdict shipping to the Philippines than to the US, which has far, far more coastline to patrol.

Two points to observe.
First: treaties, truces and 'agreements' between Muslims and non-Muslims are - from the Muslim point of view - written on toilet paper in disappearing ink.
Anyone who knows that the Muslim war on non-Muslims is perpetual, that Muslim sacred texts forbid Muslims to permanently befriend or make agreement with non-Muslims, and that treaties with non-Muslims are therefore strictly tactical, i.e. that they may be made only if the Muslim side feels weaker, and will be broken at will, the moment the Muslims feel strong again and think they can get something more by attacking, was waiting for this to happen.

Really? I'd bet the MILF leadership knows all about it and tacitly approves.
Muslim entities have a tendency to appear to 'fracture', with one part supposedly 'more peaceful' while another part (with 'plausible deniability' goes right on making war/ breaking the ceasefire, etc). 'Peaceful verses' vs. 'violent verses'. Mecca/ Medina. Hamas/ Fatah (and the so-called 'splinter groups' that come off both and engage in ultraviolent terror jihad raids). Pakistan/ Taliban.
But I'm reaching the point where I see all that as so much smoke and mirrors. Group A doing 'peace talks' knows damn well what its wholly owned franchise and 'splinter group', Group B, is up to, even if it may pretend to disown B in front of the Infidels, for purposes of PR and messing with our heads.
Overwhelming force is the only thing they understand. Move any non-muslims out of the village (making sure to ID anyone leaving) and then level the place. It worked in Germany, Japan, and Georgia (Shermans March). Remove the enemy populations willingness to continue the fight.
For God's sake, fight to win the war, and worry about hearts and minds after the fact.
And you're right about the name brand Infidel, I'm never sure I want to read something about the milf without worrying about a porn pop up on my screen.

Reason 1 - what I said above. The article features a MILF spokesman lying through his teeth about the 'agreement' - "The pact is a done deal. It is binding on the contracting parties...".

Reason number 2 - a Muslim nation, Malaysia, is involved as 'mediator'.

There is NO WAY that Malaysia will be dealing fairly with the Filipino side. Malaysia will support the MILF to expand Muslim power over kafir.
Reason no.3: the Filipinos haven't got a clue what they're dealing with. From the article:

See that? 'Proportionate and justified force in defence of our troops and communities' - it's the very same trap the Israelis have fallen into, over and over, when dealing with the Jihad.
Because when you are dealing with an utterly amoral and murderously supremacist foe that acknowledges NO SUCH RESTRAINTS - that will use *disproportionate* and utterly *unjustified* force (ultraviolence, terror of every kind) whenever they feel like it - your only hope of settling the matter is to flatten them by force majeure in response, without any explanations or apologies.

You'd think a simpler people, full of simple Spanish Catholicism and who gained their independence by fighting the Japanese and Huk Communists should be able to deal with these simpleminded jihadists.. Gee, this happens just about everywhere you have Islamic representatives trying to "negotiate in good faith" for ... whatever. It seems there's always some "armed insurgent group" that the Islamists have no control over...

The Muslim negotiators gravely advise you they can't control those wild, violent "misunderstanders" of the peaceful religion, but if you'll just do more, give more, yield more, possibly the the militants will be able to put aside their "deeply-felt rage and justifiable frustration" and finally stop attacking and murdering local citizens. Not that it's a threat or anything. But if you want peace and stability in the hinterlands, well....

I think that kafir governments - such as the Filipino, the Indian and the Israeli governments - are going to have to start operating on the prudent a priori assumption that
a. pretty well all Mohammedans lie
and
b. they're all in cahoots, one way or another, and the 'peaceful' ones doing 'negotiating' and 'interfaith dialogue' etc., are merely running interference, consciously or unconsciously, for the aggressive ones doing the violent jihad.
Abd c: anything they accuse us of doing is probably what they'd like to do to us if they could; or is what they are in fact doing or planning to do.
By the way - I seem to recall a story someone posted here, once, about a situation where a Muslim emir or sultan was claiming plausible deniability about the actions of violent jihad raiders attacking non-Muslim communities. They were 'madmen'. He couldn't control them. He knew nothing about them. Etc. (These days he'd be jabbering about the 'tiny minority of extremists', 'justified grievances', and so on).
I *think* it happened in the Philippines. Anyway, the Spaniard or American or whoever it was on the Infidel side, ran out of patience; he sent a gunship that started blazing away like mad at one of the sultan's towns. When the Sultan complained and yelled 'stop him! stop him!' the European guy smiled sweetly and declared that he knew nothing about it, he couldn't stop it, and he couldn't be held accountable for the actions of a madman.
Funny: the random jihad raids dried up all of a sudden after that.

There's a point to that story that bears careful consideration - for Israelis, Thais, and Kashmiri non-Muslims as well as for the Filipinos, and their governments and militaries.

Excellent point raised, and echoed by others in the good cop/bad cop duplicity, of Mohammedan raids against infidels, where the 'peaceful' ones disown the aggressors. If all the world's governments understood this implicitly, there would be no sham negotiations with these Islamic deceivers (Mo's primitive 'war is deceit' caravan raiding ideology) and the aggressors, whether slow or fast, would be put in their place. Unfortunately, to make this work requires treating them with a heavy hand, as mentioned above. Hit them so hard they can't get up again, full KO.
The phillipine military should have immediately deployed troops the moment the ruling came out. They had to know what was going to happen. That's what's wrong in these places. they don't anticipate even when they know what's going to happen and of course the islamists look like these brutal thugs that everyone is afraid to stand up to. They should treat it as an ongoing war and stay on the offensive and wipe those sonsabitches out. After all it is on an island. What are they gonna do? Jump in the water and swim away?
