NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AP) -- Al-Qaida's North Africa branch purportedly claimed responsibility Wednesday for ambushing an army patrol in Mauritania and kidnapping 12 soldiers whom officials initially reported had been killed.
Authorities first said the soldiers had been shot dead in Monday's attack, but the bodies were not found when army reinforcements swept the area. Government officials said some traces of blood were found, but they could only classify the soldiers as missing.
"This jihadist operation targeted the allies of the Americans, the crusaders on Islamic Mauritanian territory occupied by infidels,'' said the Internet statement attributed to al-Qaida.
Al-Qaeda has branded the regime that took power in a last month's coup an "infidel regime," and the product of a Western conspiracy.
The statement was published on several Web sites known to be close to extremist Islamic movements and at least one that has published previous statements attributed to the terrorist group.
Posted on an Arabic Web site Wednesday and dated a day earlier, the statement warned the attack "will not be the last.''
It said the attackers seized three vehicles, arms and ammunition, and "valiant holy warriors took 12 soldiers prisoner, among them a captain who led the patrol.''

It is a stark reminder that we are indeed at war. The problem is, we do not seem to be taking the war to the enemy. Are we afraid of upsetting 'moderate muslim' governments? We shouldn't be! They are either with us or against us. This is war for God's sake, let's win it!
When I read this article and put it in context with the thousands and thousands of other Muslim armed attacks on Western interests, I ponder these questions:
-Where are our news people?
-Is this not important news?
-Could we have prevailed against the Nazis if we did not have news of Nazi atrocities?
-Yes, Hitler was evil but Nazism was peacful?
-Liberating the world from Hitler good but Nazism was peaceful and should be accepted?
We have dangerously weak western leaders these days. We have dangerously corrupt news organizations today. After all, whos side are these people really on? I don't believe they even know.
People today have been brainwashed by these media organizations into accepting their bilge. Fortunately, there is a growing number of people who refuse to be brainwashed by the media and come to JW and other websites to get the important news of the day.

Regarding Muslims, that is true.
Regarding violence in general, it is not true. If you look at any city in the USA, the criminal violence inflicted upon on another has nothing to do with God. The same can be said of most western cities.
The Mao communists inflicted violence and death to 20-60 million people in China and this had nothing to do with God.
The Stalin communists inflicted violence and death to 20 - 60 million people in Soviet Union and this had nothing to do with God.

Its important to keep incidents such as this in mind when discussing these issues with others. Often people will say "the muslims just want us out of their territory/the muslims just want us to stop interfering in their countries". That may be true, but there's a critical distinction between what the Islamists mean and what we mean by the phrase "muslim lands".
