Improperly dressed

"She had shown them pictures depicting the Prophet Mohammed improperly dressed."

The mind reels. But in any case, one hopes that the Bahraini authorities will be hearing from the State Department forthwith about this, and the charges against this woman will be dropped. One hopes.

"Bahrain teacher 'insulted Islam,'" from the Gulf Daily News, September 12:

MANAMA: An American woman was referred to the court yesterday by the Public Prosecution after being charged with insulting the Prophet Mohammed.

The woman, who works as a teacher at a private university in Bahrain, was said to have been reported to the university management by a student, who claimed that she had shown them pictures depicting the Prophet Mohammed improperly dressed.

"The teacher was made to apologise to the students but was told to have insulted the girl who had reported her to the management instead," said a Public Prosecution spokesman.

Improperly dressed? For cryin' out loud, how low do the zombies have to take their "elevate" their zombie prophet to a status above their moon-god?

Was he (in the picture) nake? Did it show his itsy-bitsy private parts? Was his beard no dyed in the henna color?

These people are incredible. And why do have the USN 5th Fleet harbored there?

Oh boy, just like the teddy bear incident. Lesson not learned. It is a shame. I wonder before they go to Islamic countries are they informed of the laws and such, or are they completely naive.

The mind boggles.
I can see what is behind it though.
As well as religious discrimination (I am presuming the lady isn't muslim) there is the other 800lb gorilla of racism that is more than present in the arab world.
This from a relatively "liberal" country like Bahrain. I have been to Bahrain several times and at least you can get a beer there as most of the hotels have bars and there are a few bars around Manama.
Well that's the theory anyway, as I remember waiting over 25 minutes to get served in the Holiday Inn as it was 9 deep at the bar with Saudi's (you know, our pious friends from the land where islam was born).
Total hypocrites, all of them.

"Improperly dressed"?

They're saying this about a guy who married Aisha when she was 6 years old and then consummated the marriage when she was nine.

I wonder: is there anything improper about that? I guess not. I get it now.

Idiot American. Despite her 6 figure income she never understood that she has no rights under Islam.

But thats the price you pay for not researching the foreign country you are going to make a living in and thinking your contractor will bail you out.

If the US government pays farmers not to farm, why doesn't it as well (or instead of) pay teachers not to teach in the rat holes of Islam? No more well-trained US teachers at their schools. Send them instead to places with people who want to learn

"Improperly dressed?" I doubt it was this image:

although it might have been appropriate.

Can you believe this happened at a *University*, a supposed bastion of free inquery. My guess is that the image is most likely one of the classical images of Muhammed--perhaps Mughal Indian, Persian, or Ottoman--and depicted the "Prophet" Mohammed with an uncovered face.

Shades of "Mohammed teddy bear". It is not worthwhile for Infidels--especially women--to try to enlighten the benighted masses of Islam. The hazards are not worth it. I hope the US authorities step up--but given their lukewarm responses to American citizens imprisoned in Iran, I'm not sure I'd hold my breath.

if you lay down with snakes you must know that your gonna get bit. no sympathizes for her.

In the words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is, as stupid does."

Anyone know what the actual picture was?

Articles such as this are important talking points to remember the next time some liberal imbecile tries to bring up the Inquisition as some sort of half-witted attempt to realativize Modern Shariaa Jurisprudence with the Inquisition. It would be important to note to them the legitimacy of their historical knowledge on the subject, but that the western world ended the Inquisition (technically speaking) in 1860. Then inform them about the contemporary relevance of Blasphemy laws currently practiced in the M.E, and the current "soft" Blasphemy laws being imposed in the E.U. Heck you could even cite 2 recent arrests and link funny a video here for Seppo Lehto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO_gQmKt8kMIf, so they can see how he is paying the price for your freedom with silly youtube clips and then link http://transatlanticconservative.blogspot.com/2008/02/jailed-for-printing-islamic-cartoons.html. and when you are having a great yuk over all of that you could sing a song with your liberal friend as their freedom dies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmyGZ64J9yg and then after a good drink or 5 and a lovely night you can clap them on the back, and smile, because you know inside they think you are the crazy radical, and creeping Shariaa is the new social norm most have relegated themselves to, as blindness is easier than the ugly reality of it all anyways.

Islam is a mental illness (virus) that infects our society and will kill it if we don't stand up for it.

It is not about xenophobia, racism or anything else but a true defence of our borders and our way of life. This is our new enemy and we must defeat it – NOW!!!

Links didn’t work on the first on. Hope this works.

Another comical story....as if Mo needs pea brained muslims to defend him. How can anyone respect someone of this cult.

Here's an idea, why doesn't Bahrain get it's teachers from Somolia, maybe even get a deal of 200 to 1 (American) ratio in teachers salaries?

Bahrain needs a reminder that if it was NOT for the Americans, Sadam would have crossed their borders too.

Just a reminder that the USA should just go Imperial on that whole region?

Bahrain is 'sold' to the west as a moderate Islamic country even inviting Jews back, I think only one took up the offer.

People are too ready to go with their feelings and not with the facts.

The teacher was made to apologise to the students but was told to have insulted the girl who had reported her to the management instead," said a Public Prosecution spokesman

SO ITS MORE BECAUSE SHE INSULTED A MUSLIM AND I BELIEVE UNDER SHARIA A CHRISTIAN IS IN DEEP SH-T IF THEY DO THAT

I have one serious question. What DOESN'T insult these people? And believe me, I am struggling to call them people.

What an idiot! Thank God she's not teaching Americans!

Upon reflection, however, ethoman might be right about her being a useful idiot, whenever the Inquisition is flung at jihadwatchers.

Before we all beat up on the teacher, maybe she would be in the running for an award that Robert sponsors every year. OK so she went to an Islamic country to teach, then shows them some hard lesson they don't want to see. When told to apologize, instead she "insulted the girl who had reported her to management".

Maybe she has principles, and is willing to march into the Lion's den for those principles.

Maybe not - there's not enough information here, would be nice to both see the picture, AND learn what she said in her apology.

Either very foolish, or very brave, easy enough for us to pass judgement from behind a keyboard. I'd like to believe she has more guts than me, and our government doesn't forget her.

If nothing else, it certainly hurts Bahrain's efforts to show itself as a liberal nation - and that can't be a bad thing.
