Islam-as-Race Alert. Of course, the fact that "Islamic schools are scattered across Australian cities ... [and] receive government funds" doesn't seem to matter much. After all, Australia is supposedly a part of Dar al-Islam. More on this story.
"Australian Muslims cry foul over Catholic school," from EarthTimes, September 9:
Sydney - Australian Muslims said Tuesday that racism was behind a Sydney council's decision to approve plans for a Catholic school and reject a proposal to build an Islamic school. The building projects are in the Sydney suburb of Camden, where five months ago the local council received 3,500 complaints about a plan to build an Islamic school and had to hire security guards to ensure order at meetings where the project was discussed.Camden Mayor Chris Patterson said comparisons between the two projects were invalid because "any application is site-specific. If a Catholic church had put in for the Quranic Society site, it would not have been approved, and alternatively, if the Quranic Society had put in for the Mater Dei site, and it meets the criteria, it would be approved."
Quranic Society spokesman Issam Obeid said the council was applying a "double-standard" rather than simply following zoning rules.
"No one knows anything about the Catholic school, and they say, 'Yeah, give it a tick already,'" he said. "I think racism is affecting this."
The Quranic Council is appealing the decision to reject its proposal for a 1,200-pupil school.
At rowdy meetings in May, Camden residents argued that few Muslims lived in the area and the pupils would be bused in from distant suburbs with large Muslim populations.
The Quranic Society project is not a test case: Islamic schools are scattered across Australian cities, which, like Catholic schools or Jewish schools, receive government funds.

You can whine all day long that it racism this, islamophobia that, yada yada yada. The days when that argument becomes counter effective are coming up fast. It won't matter anyway once it starts happening. Straighten up your own religion, get a life, and most of all: grow the hell up… before everyone starts playing the game you started… and most with much better toys.
"Islamic schools are scattered across Australian cities, which, like Catholic schools or Jewish schools, receive government funds."
-- from the article above
Even if such funding of Christian (Catholic) and Jewish schools is permitted, this does not mean that Islamic schools should receive government funds from a non-Muslim government, of a non-Muslim nation-state, paid for almost entirely by non-Muslim taxpayers. Islam is not only or mainly a religion. It is a politics. It is a geopolitics. It contains, it rests upon, it finds central to its ideology the division of the world between Muslim and non-Muslim, Believer and Infidel. Throughout the Qur'an, the Hadith, and the life of Muhammad, one finds constant discussion of what this division between Believer and Infidel means -- and for Infidels it means nothing good.
The people of Australia and their representatives should be discussing this openly. They should be examining those texts -- Qur'an, Hadith, Sira. They should be finding out about the important incidents in the life of Muhammad, that Perfect Man. They should be finding out what Islam teaches, with varying levels of fanaticism but with no varying level in the essential doctrine.
There is no point in any longer professing to be indifferent to this, as if it were also a given that, as the idiotic phrase has it, "all religions mean the same thing" and "everybody wants the same thing." The Total Belief-System of Islam is very different from those faiths we call "religions." It may, faute de mieux, have been called a religion by all kinds of simplifiers who had no idea as to what else it might be called, and during most of the last two centuries, when Islam was weak, and unthreatening because Muslims lacked sufficient wherewithal to threaten, that did not matter so much.
Now Muslim states have received since 1973 alone, more than eleven, and possibly even twelve, trillion dollars in oil and gas revenues (all without lifting a finger), and some of that money has been spent on campaigns of Da'wa in the Western world, on propaganda for Muslim causes, on hiring armies of Western hirelings to defend Islam, and promote its political interests, and to pay for mosques and madrasas all over the world. And tens of millions of Muslims now live in the middle of the countries of Western Europe, where they threaten -- they clearly already threaten -- the well-being, physical and mental, of the indigenous Infidels and of the non-Muslim immigrants who also suffer from, and in some cases were fleeing from, Muslim behavior toward non-Muslims.
Islamic schools need to be vigilantly monitored. It will become clear soon enough, even to the greatest appeaser, that in fact what is taught in those schools is nothing like what is taught in Christian and Jewish schools, and Islam informs not merely a separate class or two in doctrine, but the entire day, and the entire world-view,of those who attend them, and who are brainwashed in a way that outsiders can scarcely imagine - and that is why taping of everything that goes on should be insisted upon. And if the Muslim school authorities refuse? Then take away their public funding. It is not as if they don't have fellow members of the Umma, dripping with gold, to help them. And if they continue to preach hostility towards, and hatred for, non-Muslims that is central, not tangential, to Islam, that is part of its essence, close those now privately-funded schools down, as a threat to the public, and to national security.
No more pieties, no more fearful retreat into dreamy hopefulness that is based on a flight from reality. No. A different, a sober, determined, relentless campaign to prevent Islam in Australia from being...Islam. And if Muslims object? On what grounds? That they have a divine right to preach and spread hostility toward non-Muslims, including murderous hatred at times? No. They don't.
End of story. In Australia, and everywhere else in the put-upon Bilad al-kufr, the under-siege Lands of the Infidels.
In a recent Compass program on ABC TV, a choruse of sweet, veiled Muslim schoolgirls from one of the taxpayer funded Islamic schools all chorused on cue
"Islamic values are exactly the same as Australian values.'
NO, THEY'RE NOT.
If they were, what need for Islamic schools?
Australians do not sanction:
gender inequality/apartheid
the inferior status of women (less intelligent;dependent 'men are in charge of women')
the inferior status of women- (half the legal weight as witness in a sharia court/ half the inheritances)
the beating of women as commanded in Qur'an
the splitting of the world into Muslim US and non-Muslim 'them'
the mutilating atrocities of sharia punishments
the sexual assault and grievous bodily harm of gential mutilation
the veiling of women's hair and bodies
supremicist ideologies of any kind
doctrinally sanctioned hatred of Jews
and that's just for starters....
The Mayor and town council need to receive a flood of encouraging letters, phone calls and emails, primarily from Australian jihadwatchers, but also from overseas - from the USA, Europe and Canada.
Send them copies of some of the many articles that have appeared here, especially in recent years, concerning the appalling things that are openly taught in Muslim schools, both within the Muslim lands (Egypt, Saudi Arabia) and in non-Muslim lands (the UK, Canada, the USA [many recent examples, hot off the press] and...Australia [I recall an example that appeared right here at jihadwatch some years ago]).
Send them Nonie Darwish's and Tawfiq Hamid's accounts of what *they* were taught, as a matter of course, in perfectly standard schools in Egypt. Hamid recalled seeing movies about jihad, and reading Hadith that told him to treat Christians with hostility and contempt. Nonie Darwish talks about the routine and venomous antisemitism to which she was exposed by her Egyptian education in the 1950s.
A point that might profitably be made, backed up by samples of some of the more ugly and aggressive anti-Jewish and kafir-hating texts from the Qur'an (since the proposed Islamic School was to be set up by a 'Quranic Society'), is this:
during World War II, would any Australian city have permitted Nazi sympathisers to establish a school whose students would memorise large sections of 'Mein Kampf'?
During the Cold War, would we have permitted Russian emigres of dubious character, suspected of Communist ties, to set up a school in which children would learn Russian language and learn by heart, uncritically, the writings of Lenin? Would we, even today, permit the establishment of a school - with teachers, perhaps, provided by communist China - in which children would spend large amounts of time engaged in uncritical and indeed adulatory study and memorisation of Mao's Little Red Book?
Excluding an Islamic School is not racist, since Islam is not a race but an ideology.
Excluding an Islamic School is not 'intolerant' or 'bigoted', since classical Qur'an-Sira-Hadith Islam is itself virulently and aggressively intolerant and supremacist. Preventing the perpetuation of such destructive teachings is an act of simple prudence.
One might particularly direct the Council's attention to the reality of mainstream Muslim antisemitism, past and present, as laid bare, in exhaustive detail, by Andrew Bostom in "The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism".
