Canadian jihadist plotting to behead prime minister found guilty; defense lawyer insists plot was simply "jihadi musings and fantasies"

Update to this story. "Canadian guilty in plot to behead prime minister," by Rob Gillies for AP, September 25:

A Canadian man accused of participating in military exercises and firearms training as part of a group authorities say plotted to storm Parliament and behead the prime minister was found guilty Thursday.

The man's attorney says the plot was a "jihadi fantasy" and that his client knew nothing about it.

Does this fit in the famous I-was-only-kidding jihadi line of defense?
A judge ruled Thursday that evidence of a terrorist group was "overwhelming." The man is the first person to be found guilty of a terrorist offense in Canada since the country enacted anti-terrorism laws in 2001.

The arrests of the 18 group members, known as the "Toronto 18," made headlines around the world and heightened fears in Canada, where people believe they are relatively immune from terrorist strikes.

Prosecutors said there were plans to truck-bomb nuclear power plants and a building housing Canada's spy service.

Seven of those arrested have since had their charges either withdrawn, or stayed. The trials of 10 adults, including the alleged ringleaders, have yet to begin. The young man was the first to go on trial.[...]

The defense had cast the plot as "musings and fantasies" with no possibility of being carried out.

l guess heads need to roll before they are taken seriously.

Most will "hear" these words of Bakri's: ''She was brought up properly in the Muslim faith but she is free to make her own choices in life.'

They will not "hear" 'If she has done these things she will be judged on Judgment Day. But God will forgive her anything except becoming a non-Muslim.', and wonder, exactly, what that means.

If I were her, I now do a whole lot more than change my name in an effort to protect my identity.

I have a "jihadi fantasy" of my own. It is rather dark, though.

Under Tom Tancredo's 'Jihad Prevention Act', Chand, 'jihad fantasy' would not have a leg to stand on.

.. and thank the media for crusade against a patriot: http://www.vdare.com/guzzardi/tancredo.htm
.. and Americans wonder where are the patriots in the government. Ofcourse, there are not many but the few, like Tom Tancredo, who are in oublic service, are rejected by Americans themselves. As they say, in a democracy, people get the government they deserve, and Americans deserve traitors like Bush, Condi, Carter and Clinton, not patriots like Tom Tancredo, R-Co.

Let it be known that these "fantasies" were communicated at Friday services before a throng of so called moderate Muslims. I remember seeing an interview where a Muslim said he listened to these rants for at least six months but did nothing about it. In fact, the Muslim who turned in these gangsters did so because he believed that Sharia law would one day overtake Canada and these overt Jihadists were spoiling the plans.

".....whatever the human mind can conceive and believe, it can acheive........."

Motivational Saying

His MAXIMUM possilbe sentence is 10 years in prison. 10 years, or probably a lot less, to give and receive dawa, and plot new terrorist attacks so he can be ready for action as soon as he gets out.

The sentence in every jihad-related case should include revocation of citizenship and deportation.

absolutely!

Oh, it was only jihad fantasy instead of jihad, which, as every informed person knows, as opposed to those nasty Islamophobes (you know, the type who post at Jihad Watch) is just a spritual struggle anyway. Hey, what's the big deal? Boy, the Canadian government is really a ruthless one, isn't it? I mean who doens't think of Canada and has immediately come to mind what a barbaric country it is, especially in its treatment of Muslims? Poor dears.

Everyone has a 'Dark Side'. Some people have a much smaller dark side, and some have a much larger one. Human nature is such that it make sense that cultures would be the same way. Some have smaller dark sides than others.

Islamic ideology has a large 'Dark side'. This MUST change before the violence it triggers can be reduced to a level more compatiable with the rest of the world.

Not too long until sudden jihadists, and those more deliberate, attack less famous, more easily avaiable, seemingly random targets.

Sooner, rather than later.

Be prepared, unerschrocken.

After a few musings and fantasies, I was tempted to place a few of those bullet hole stickers on my neighbor's Obama yard sign. I thought better. I live in a neighborhood full of hard left liberals and all it would take is for one of them to catch me on a security camera and my a** would be toast.
