This story is yet another illustration of why no responsible American public figure would ever compare any individual or group to the Taliban. There is no Taliban of American politics, and saying that Sarah Palin or Pat Robertson or anyone else is "just like the Taliban" manifests a monumental willful ignorance and moral myopia. Taliban gunmen have shot dead the most high-profile female police officer in Afghanistan as she left her home to go to work, officials and the militia have said.The attackers were waiting outside the home of Malalai Kakar, head of the city of Kandahar's department of crimes against women, and opened fire on her car, Kandahar government spokesman Zalmay Ayoobi said.
Her son was said to be wounded in the attack.
"Today between 7 am and 8 am (local time) when she was [in her car] outside her house and going to her job, some gunmen attacked," Mr Ayoobi said.
"Malalai Kakar died in front of her house. Her son was wounded."
A doctor in the city's main hospital said Ms Kakar, in her late 30s, had been shot in the head.
A spokesman for the extremist Taliban movement, which targets government officials as part of an growing insurgency, said that the assassins were from his group.
"We killed Malalai Kakar," spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi said.
"She was our target, and we successfully eliminated our target."
Ms Kakar, a mother of six, was regularly profiled in international media and was known for her courage in one of Afghanistan's most conservative provinces....
These cowards who killed the real brave police women in Afganistan only prove how islamists follow the koran "killing by ambush".
Can't be letting some uppity woman become a police officer, now can they?

Why are we in Afghanistan again? The only way to really change these Islamic countries is to pull a Japan on them, do a complete occupation and remake them as true Western democracies, by way of jailing and/or killing any opposition.
Of course, that's far too barbaric for Western mores today. We'd rather just let things go on as they are, prop up governments based on sharia law, and let these Islamic nations bleed to death over the course of decades through seemingly endless mundane atrocities like this one. Then pull out after thousands of lives lost with absolutely nothing accomplished that couldn't have been done cheaper in the wake of 9/11 through some serious carpet bombing and in-out commando raids.
God bless Malalai Kakar. I've read a number of profiles of her. She was a strong, brave woman who deserved much, much better support from the Western troops who are supposed to be helping stabilize and modernize Afghanistan.
