GAZA, Sept 26 (Reuters) - A pro-al Qaeda Palestinian group vowed on Friday to avenge the deaths of nine of its members in clashes with Hamas police earlier this month, unless the Islamist group declares an Islamic state in the Gaza Strip.As if Hamas does not want to implement sharia. Unlike the brash upstart Jaysh al-Islam, Hamas is simply biding its time till the right moment.Jaysh al-Islam, or the Army of Islam, said nine members were killed in clashes with Hamas policemen on Sept. 16 when the Islamist rulers of the Gaza Strip raided the compound of the militant Doghmosh clan.
"Revenge is a right that must be fulfilled," the Army of Islam said in a statement.
The group said it would forgive the Hamas security men who took part in the raid if Hamas implemented Islamic law in the Gaza Strip and declared an Islamic state there, giving Gaza's rulers a three-day ultimatum to meet its demands.
It urged Hamas to stop targeting its followers.For now.Hamas is an Islamist group that distances itself from al Qaeda.
While many Gazans have become more outwardly religious under its rule, Hamas has not formally imposed Islamic law on the coastal territory, which it seized a year ago after routing Fatah forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri brushed aside the threats and said the raid was in response to the killing of a policeman by members of the Doghmosh clan.
"They want to impose extreme ideas on our people and we do not accept that," Abu Zuhri said.

Not all that many years ago. The Gaza Strip under Israeli Occupation before 2000. Israeli and other tourists swarming Gaza's bazaars and beaches, a booming economy, joint 'peace projects' of all sorts to help the Palestinians and money pouring in from around the world. Access to state of the art Israeli medical care, educational programs. An elaborate Israeli system of informers and spies with an outstanding track record of nipping terror in the bud (which always worked so well because there were so many sub groups clans and families fighting one another and willing to use the Israelis for revenge). And now.

So Jaish al-Islam consists of "extremists" with "extreme ideas." Obvious conclusion by members of the government and the press: Hamas must now have changed, must now be "moderate." As the Fast Jihadists of Hamas make the Slow Jihadists of Fatah seem, by comparison, "moderate" (and hence, respectable, and hence, supportable, and hence, worthy of being sent billions in aid, and every kind of comfort), so now, we will be told, Jaish al-Islam (really, nothing more than Doghmosh clan members, who are simply a powerful local mafia) are the "extremists" and, it necessarily follows, the former "extremists" of Hamas are to be seen in a new light as "moderates" which must now make Fatah seem not merely "moderate" but positively peace-loving and practically Israel's best friend.

In my opinion the islamists would be killing each other if Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc., were not conveniently available targets for muslim rage.

You are right - if everybody in the world converted to Islam, one would see other types of violence - all of it takfir, and all of it claiming that the others weren't Islamic enough. Note that while a lot of people in the West use qualifier labels to delimit the number of Mohammedans being described, Islamic countries or organizations themselves never describe themselves as Wahabi, Salafi, Deobandi, et al: all they do is describe themselves as Islamic. Reason for this should be obvious: if somebody or some org claims to be Islamic, who in the ummah could 'reasonably' object? But once such an org declares itself Shia, or Ahmadiya, or Sufi, or Wahabi, they automatically risk the ire of other ummah members not in their sect, and given what the Sunnah authorizes, the consequences of that is obvious to everyone.

Not logical. As an infidel, under Islamic law you have no rights to revenge. Under our law, revenge is out. So you have no recourse but to accept what ever they dish out. (sarc)

Cleric accused of sexual assault
Some 150 school-age girls and their relatives staged a protest Friday at an Islamic boarding school in Surabaya, demanding justice against a senior cleric for allegedly sexually abusing 25 female students.
Protesters thronged the school's compound from 8:30 a.m., preventing local Muslims from performing Friday prayers at the school's Nurullah grand mosque. The mosque was sealed off two months ago at the request of residents of Kedung Rukem IV subdistrict, south of the city, following an uproar over a sexual harassment case centered on Kyai As'ad Syukur Fauzanni.
Friday's demonstration was staged after students' relatives learned the mosque would be reopened with a fast-breaking gathering and the distribution of Idul Fitri gifts to students.
"This mosque must be closed permanently. No one should be allowed to pray in an obscenely infected mosque where several children were raped. The indecent cleric must be punished harshly," one protester shouted.
Dozens of riot police were on guard outside the mosque.
Roni, a local resident, said the protesters would not allow the mosque to be reopened while a police investigation into the claims of rape was not yet started.
The protesters dispersed after a dialogue with police.
Maisaroh (not her real name), an 11-year-old student, said she had been fondled and kissed by As'ad on several occasions during her two years at the boarding school.
"I was embraced tightly and kissed, and it happened many times between July 2007 and March 2008," she told The Jakarta Post.
She said she only told her parents after learning that other students had also been sexually assaulted by As'ad, a highly respected cleric. In June this year, the victims' parents filed a complaint with the police.
The police declined to comment on the case, which is being closely monitored by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).
As'ad has been declared a suspect in the case, and is currently being held at Medaeng Prison. He has reportedly threatened to file a lawsuit against the KPAI, which accuses him of raping his students.
"Our father will file a lawsuit against the KPAI, following its recent letter of protest accusing him of abusing the students' human rights," said Dedik Oktanto, As'ad's son-in-law.
