Rabat, 3 Sept. (AKI) - An Al-Qaeda cell dismantled by Moroccan police last week had been planning a terrorist attack against United Nations' peacekeeping forces in the Western Sahara, an Arab newspaper has claimed.
According to Rabat security sources cited in the Arab daily, al-Sharq al-Awsat, members of the Fath al-Andalus cell were planning to attack soldiers from the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara based in al-Ayoun.
According to investigations, the five members of the cell had been in contact via the Internet with Arab Afghanis that had also operated in Iraq, Algeria and Lebanon and were ready to teach them long distance bombing techniques.
Security forces intercepted communication between members of Fatah al-Andalus and representatives of Al-Qaeda as they were discussing preparations for the attacks in a country defined as "very dangerous."
Three of the five members of the group were found in possession of chemicals and bomb making equipment, according to reports.
The UN mission, known as MINURSO, was deployed in September 1991 to monitor a ceasefire in the Western Sahara, a region which has been in dispute since the withdrawal of Spain in 1976.
The Fath al-Andalus translates as "Combat fo [sic] Islamic Spain" is believed to refer to the Muslim kingdoms that ruled the Iberian Peninsula in southern Spain in medieval times.

The organisation is believed to base their activities on the model established by the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, which has carried out many terror attacks in Algeria and Mauritania.

Violence, Violence, and more violence.....the immediate results of European governments (some may label as colonial powers) leaving African and other areas where they had hoped to prosper and to help the people prosper and generally this did happen...In every instance violent radicals ultimately had their way and forced the Europeans to leave..the inevitable result was that the violent radicals wanted only total control and have shown they will continue to do so until they get it...The UN missions, whereever they are, are generally doomed to be an effort in futility...as they generally are not allowed to vigorously attack the violent ones...
VIolent native natives are not always Muslims, the Prime example is Robert Mugabe, who systematically forced the white farmers to leave the land and the country causing immediate food shortages and loss of paying jobs, his military and fiscal policies have destroyed a previously prosperous county and it is getting worse...police brutality, kidnappings, rapes, false imprisonments, tortures, and random executions now prevail....
Violence begets violence...violence is the only thing violent people understand..you will have to use violence to alleviate the violence...and it will get uglier before it gets better...of course, if you refuse to use violence, you will become a victim of it.
One has to wonder why the UN continues to bleat about islam being a religion of peace.
It would be useful if, in the Spanish press, articles were to appear explaining how Spain is regarded by Muslims as a once and future Islamic "Al-Andalus" and why it is so high on the To-Do List. It might provoke a salutary chill, and also help to change both Spanish immigration policy, and Spanish attitudes toward, for example, Israel's attempts to protect itself against Jihad and America's attempts to protect the entire West from Jihad. Both efforts of self-defense, national and civilizational, have been undertaken without use of the word "Jihad" and without mention of Islamic doctrine. This lapse, whether out of ignorance or fear, or merely the result of a tongue-tied inability to figure out just how to tell certain unpleasant truths, should not continue, cannot continue, much longer.
It would make sense if Muslim immigrants to Spain (mainly from Morocco), whose true cost to Spain and to the rest of the E.U. (or Schengenland, which allows freedom of movement between members of the E.U.) far outweighs any conceivable transitory usefulness of those immigrants as
as laborers, were no longer to be taken in, and replaced by other, much less dangerous and willing immigrants, from Mexico and South America. There are already many Ecuadoreans in Spain. The Spanish government, in a spirit of viva-la-hispanidad, could enter into official arrangements with various governments in Latin America, for such vetted immigration.
Given the lower linguistic barriers (between castellano and espanol, instead of between Spanish and English), and that religious differences would not be a problem, and the menace of Muslim demographic conquest diminished, it is in the interests not only of Spain but of the entire E.U., and of the United States, and the countries of Mexico and Latin America, that this policy be promoted. Everyone benefits.
