Thailand should take note, as a peace proposal aimed at ending the jihad in that country's southern provinces also includes the implementation of Sharia law. Not only is there no guarantee that it will help end the violence in the short term, it presents a continuing spiral of problems in the long run, from the treatment of non-Muslims to the inevitable conflict of parallel legal systems in one country. In the southern Philippines, fighting between religious militias has left at least 100 dead in the past month. An attempt by the government to ease tensions by allowing the dominant Muslims to enforce Sharia law has only resulted in more violence.
In Marawi City, the "Islamic Pearl" of the Philippines, Sharia law is the only rule. This was a concession by the government to Muslims aimed at easing the tensions between their community and Christians in the southern Philippines.
The move has had the opposite effect. For the past five weeks, the conflict between the army and Muslim rebels has escalated. Religious violence in the southern Philippines has left 100 people dead and 400,000 displaced in the past month.
The government has deployed 70% of its armed forces in the zone.
Memo to the Philippines government: *do not recognise* sharia anywhere within the national boundaries of the Philippines.
Sharia law flatly contradicts, and is implacably hostile toward, every single clause of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Under sharia, there are no discernible civil rights for either women or non-Muslims.
Non-Muslims become 'dhimmis'; that is, they are aggressively reduced to dhimmitude - a state of permanent and crushing humiliation, degradation, and physical insecurity.
They are compelled to pay jizya, that is, a crippling Mafia-style 'protection' tax to Muslims; this supposedly permits them to live another day rather than be killed outright by those same Muslim Mafiosi, but Muslims historically have reserved the right to seize all kinds of flimsy excuses to accuse dhimmis of insubordination, and to unleash violent pogroms against them.
Dhimmis have absolutely no right of response to any Muslim abuse perpetrated against them, no matter how vile or cruel; they are denied the right to bear arms and to defend themselves either verbally or physically. In court, a dhimmi's testimony is automatically trumped by that of a Muslim.
What this means? X [Muslim] robs/ rapes/ bashes Y [a Dhimmi] or kidnaps or murders a member of Y's family. Y - taking his life in his hands - dares to complain. Sharia court says, 'dear Brother X, did you do this?' X says 'No I didn't!' or 'He deserved it (for dissing the prophet, whatever'). Sharia court: 'You're innocent! Case dismissed!'
Philippines government - if you do not want ghastly scenes like this, one day, to become reality in your southern provinces, you must repeal your extremely foolish concession to sharia, and instead announce your intention to enforce Filipino law across the entire region; if necessary, by the persistent employment of devastating superior force.
Please! do not condemn or suppress the Christian villagers' attempts to defend themselves against the Muslim jihadists. Instead: train them, equip them, and back them up! Swear them into the army and the police force!

Sounds like the muslims immediately began killing the Christians or tried to drive them out of the area so they could have it all to themselves. That's the name of the game with muslims; they must dominate. If 70% of the country's armed forces can't solve the problem, what's next? The rebels attack and then run away and hide so it could go on indefinitely. Unfortunately, the 100 dead are probably all Christians.
How many islamic conflicts are raging around the world now, and when will the diplomats, politicians, and other assorted leaders realize that appeasement of muslims only leads to more demands and bloodshed? Total surrender to islam also leads to more bloodshed and protracted misery for non-muslims and even some muslims, so why won't somebody take the first bold step and destroy the source of the incessant conflict---ISLAM.
If the non-islamic world is to ever enjoy peace again in their own countries, muslims must go. The U.N. should be working on a plan to relocate the world's muslims to one specific area so they cannot plague and attempt to conquer the rest of humanity. I can't think of a more crucial and imperative initiative. Then the muslims can fight and kill each other to their hearts' content. At least we won't have to contend with their predatory agenda and their perpetual jihad.

Instead of recognising sharia in any part of the Philippines, the Filipino government would do well to institute a law inspired by this Bill which Tancredo is proposing in the US.
"Tancredo’s bill, dubbed the “Jihad Prevention Act,” would bar the entry of foreign nationals who advocate Sharia law. In addition, the legislation would make the advocacy of Sharia law by radical Muslims already in the United States a deportable offense."

Europe is not yet facing a full-scale jihadist armed rebellion, as the Philippines is; but the principle involved is exactly the same; the Muslim jihad (struggle) to subdue the non-Muslim.
Islam intends to dominate, and not be dominated. This means the imposition of sharia - Muslim totalitarian despotism/ theocracy over all other human beings on the planet, the erasure or suppression of all other laws, customs, belief systems and systems of government - by hook or by crook, by fraud or by force or by both together.
Every concession anywhere to any part of sharia encourages Muslims to push for more, more, more.
It's not too late for the Philippines to rescind this idiotic concession to the Muslims.

Actually, English is an official language in the Philippines thanks to about half a century of American rule. Most Filipinos speak and understand it.

How bad *is* the level of misinformation about Islam, among non-Muslim Filipinos?
When I talked about translating things, I was thinking of how to reach people like my sister-in-law, who is Filipina, and who certainly had very little English when she first arrived here.
Also: no matter how good one's command of a second language, things always 'sink in' better if presented in the mother tongue.
Are Mr Spencer's books - even in English - finding their way into the right hands, in the Philippines?

This is nothing short of a betrayal. The government has an obligation to protect the non-Muslims who live in those areas. Allowing sharia to be implemented does just the opposite. No non-Muslim should be put at the mercy of sharia law.
Perhaps it's time to shed a few of the main islands and bring out the non-Muslim inhabitants and do another India - moving ALL (no one allowed to stay behind) Muslims to Muslim islands so that Filipinos can live in peace. The island of Mindinao cannot be allowed to deteriorate.

I'd say that generally, Filipinos have gone soft on Muslims. Most would think of the jihad in Mindanao as the uprising of impoverished Muslims who have long been ill-treated by the government and that terrorist acts are just the wayward actions of a few but violent indviduals.

Looking around casually, I've failed to find them in Manila's book stores. But they might be there. I admit that I've never made a thorough search for them.
