Ramadan "fast-a-thons" raise awareness about Islam among college students

Infidels showing solidarity with Muslims

And whatever the appeal, "it's all the rage" with college students. CAIR explains why: "The fear is still there, but people are looking for answers, especially the youth. There is a genuine interest to understand, and they don't see the world the same way as the older generation. They're not as uptight."

"Ramadan fast-a-thons raise awareness about Islam among college students," by Jessica Meyers for the Dallas Morning News, September 19:

RICHARDSON – In a banquet room above the student union's bopping pingpong balls and blaring arcade games, the groan of empty stomachs met the hum of Arabic prayer.

Tables of 20-somethings at the University of Texas at Dallas drooled over plates of hummus as their Muslim counterparts concluded their pre-dinner supplications for Ramadan. Then everyone ate for the first time since dawn. "Why do they put that in front of us to stare at?" whined 19-year-old Sara Arnold before she got permission to rip a hunk of pita bread and dunk it into the chickpea dip.

The Muslim Students Association's fast-a-thon – a riff on religious doctrine – draws hundreds of non-Muslim students who choose to fast for one day with their Muslim peers and attend the daily iftar banquet in the evening to break it.

They now share in the age-old custom of spiritual and physical cleansing tied to the holiday, which runs through September this year.

Participation numbers have more than doubled in the last several years, a factor religious scholars and students attribute to an outreach by the Muslim community, solidarity on the part of those who have become fascinated by the Islamic faith, and a curiosity about the spiritual act of fasting itself.

"A lot of people know what Ramadan is now," said Ayaham Nahhas, the president of the Muslim Students Association at UTD, who says the fast-a-thon – which drew about 120 people – is the biggest activity his organization holds. "Islam has been getting more attention in the media, and people just want to know what we are all about."

So Muslims are "all about" fasting, nothing more? What about tawhid? How about the shehada -- asserting that "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah"? What about jihad fi sabil Allah, warfare against all non-Muslims? Sharia law? Learning what Muslims are "all about" is definitely important, but let's keep it comprehensive, shall we?
More than 240 Muslim Students Associations host fast-a-thons – groups at Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University are among them – and have raised more than $50,000 for charity. Local businesses donate at least a dollar for each non-Muslim who participates.

[...]

All area groups are reporting increased attendance and are donating money to an orphan drive organized by the nonprofit Islamic Relief.

No one's quite sure why attendance has increased so dramatically recently, seven years after 9/11.

"Maybe it's a political empathy post-9/11, a wanting to stand alongside and experience something like this for the first time," said Edina Lekovic of the Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.-based Muslim Public Affairs Counsel.

She said she's noticed more non-Muslims across the country fasting in solidarity with their Muslim friends this year than ever before. "Whatever it is, it's all the rage."

Part of the heightened awareness comes from Muslim outreach efforts, especially fast-breaking celebrations hosted by area mosques that incorporate lessons about Ramadan.

But these interfaith actions are most obvious among college students, said Mustafaa Carroll, the executive director of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

"The fear is still there, but people are looking for answers, especially the youth," he said. "There is a genuine interest to understand, and they don't see the world the same way as the older generation. They're not as uptight."...

This can't be good. If I were participating to raise money for an Islamic organization, I'd be a little wary what with the myriad Islamic charities that have been closed due to supporting terrorism the Holy Land Foundation comes to mind.

Part of the problem as I see it is that many college students are a-religious having been raised in secular homes. I have a college age students and they are surprised at how few of their classmates have ever belonged to a church or synagogue.

Their parents, who are "uptight", and are generally my age and older, were for the most part raised in Christian homes (Catholic or denominational Protestant) nominal or not. If they were my age...the tail end of the baby boom... or older they also saw the Jesus Movement of the 1970s.

from article: There is a genuine interest to understand, and they don't see the world the same way as the older generation. They're not as uptight."

Most of them are not uptight, they are just stuck on stupid.
When they give up smoking pot and read the Quran, and hadith, visit JW a few times, read some Hersi Ali or Spencer, or Bostom etc, and then listen to what 'really good' muslims say, and see what they do...then they will get uptight.

What Muslims are all about:

Here's another chapter of the Muslim Students Association; this one from the University of Southern California (one often cited here at JW/DW).

Main site:

Ten Misconceptions about Islam: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/notislam/misconceptions.html

From the 'Ten Misconceptions' page:

Islam is the name of a way of life which the Creator wants us to follow. We avoid the word religion because in many non-Islamic societies, there is a separation of "religion and state." This separation is not recognized at all in Islam: the Creator is very much concerned with all that we do, including the political, social, economic, and other aspects of our society. Hence, Islam is a complete way of life.

Does Eric Duffy (the fellow in the photo) know what Islam, and the Muslimah he's sitting with, really think of him and his family?

Yes, it's a lot more than just fasting.

Also...This: There is a genuine interest to understand

The last thing Islam want's these kufrs to do (other than convert) is to 'understand Islam'.

'Understanding' Islam brings instant rejection from those endowed with a brain.

That's why they have these taqiyya sit ins with brainless kuffars.

The manipulators want you to know about Islam, but not understand it. To 'understand' it is to reject it...

These young college students are among the most vulnerable and are there to be open to learn, but to learn is to understand the truth.

How many of these students have, or will actually take the time to read the Qur’an and see what it says? They might be surprised at what they find. we wish it weren’t so, but it is an absolute myth to believe that Islam is a peaceful, and tolerant religion.

This is of course the kind of propaganda and recruitment campaign that Muslims succcessfully use to draw non Muslims into their web of deceit (taquiya) and half truths (kitman). ---Never minding what Surah 3:28-”The believers should not take the unbelievers as friends or helpers".

And here are just a few of the hundreds of Violent and Intolerant Qur’an surahs' that are directed towards non Muslims

2:89-”Therefore, the curse of Allah is upon the unbelievers!”

2:97-”Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and messengers, to Gabriel and Michael, lo! Allah is an enemy of the unbelievers.”

2:191-”Kill them (unbelievers) wherever you find them. Drive them out of the places from which they drove you, for persecution is worse than slaughter…. Such is the reward of those who reject faith.”

2:193-”Fight against them (unbelievers) until there is no dissension, and the religion is for Allah.”
Fight until no other religion exists but Islam.

3:28-”The believers should not take the unbelievers as friends or helpers in preference to the believers. He who does this does not belong to Allah in anything, unless you have a fear of them.”

3:110-”You are the best nation ever to be brought forth for people. You order honor and forbid dishonor, and you believe in Allah. Had the people of the book believed, it would have surely been better for them. Some of them are believers, but most of them are evildoers.”
Most Jews and Christians are wrongdoers.

3:151-”We will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve.”

5:51-”O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them in friendship is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.”

5:64-”They [the Jews] are cursed for what they said!… As often as they light a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it. Their effort is for corruption in the land, and Allah loveth not corrupters.”

8:12, 14-”I shall cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. Strike them above the necks, smite their finger tips…. the punishment of the fire is for the unbelievers.”

8:39-”Fight them (unbelievers) until persecution is no more and the religion of Allah reigns supreme.”

9:14-”Fight them (unbelievers), Allah will punish them with your hands and degrade them. He will grant you victory over them and heal the chests of a believing nation.”

9:29-”Fight those who neither believe in Allah nor the last day, who do not forbid what Allah and his messenger have forbidden, and do not embrace the religion of the truth, being among those who have been given the book (Bible and the Torah), until they pay tribute out of hand and have been humiliated (or feel themselves subdued).”

9:49-”Hell shall encompass the unbelievers.”

9:73-”O Prophet, struggle with the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh with them. Their abode is Hell, an evil refuge indeed.”

47:4-”Therefore, when you meet the unbelievers smite their necks, then, when you have killed many of them, tie the bonds…. As for those who are killed in the Way of Allah, he will not let their works to go astray.”
More commands to violence and praise for violent martyrs.

47:8-”But the unbelievers shall be the destroyed losers. He will bring their deeds to nothing.”

98:6-”The unbelievers among the People of the Book and the idolaters shall be for ever in the fire of gehenna (hell). They are the worst of all creatures.”

Dawa is Dawa no matter how you put lipstick on that pig.

And the thing about college students is that they are the most vulnerable to manipulation and is why cults see college campuses as prime recruiting grounds.

The moonies, Hare Krishna, the Oshoites have agents on many campuses - especially those which are known to attract students from wealthy families. Heck Ranjeesh made a specialty out of recruiting these gullible kids and almost turned them into potential mass murderers.

But what is quite worrisome is that most college campuses would erupt in violence if say the Greek Orthodox or Coptic Church were try put on the same recruiting shindig that the Muslims did.

I watched it happen up close in a Kansas university town. Muslims courting young hip non-Muslims at a coffee shop hang-out and I even saw the moment at the end of the semester when they gave their friends the fat green and gold covered Korans as gifts. I saw the two 'marks' sitting in my favorite coffee place thumbing through the Korans with lost, slightly nauseous looks on their faces. The brutal, simplistic fundamentalist cruelty of it all must have penetrated their political correctness. For all the Muslim hype - reading the Koran makes Guideposts magazine seem positively New Age.

Something very similar have taken place in Cologne today and yesterday. The dhimmi mayor Schramma calld all left radicals into his city to hunt for citizens who don't want the DITIB-mosque to be built.

The German paper RP online writes, that everybody, who didnt wear a leftist sign was considered a faschist automatically:

http://www.rp-online.de/public/article/panorama/deutschland/617264/Zwischen-Currywurst-und-Krawallen.html

Wer einigermaßen bürgerlich aussah und nicht den kostenlos verteilten grünen "No go für Nazis"-Aufkleber an der Kleidung hatte, wurde vorsorglich schon mal als "Faschist" tituliert.

We really need thrue news from Germany, Austria and Switzerland in English:

http://dachnews.wordpress.com/

Just another way islam is trying to reach some of the most vulnerable individuals in our country, our youth from 16-22 years of age. Why it is so cool to hung with muslims and starve yourself? It is something diffferent and it connot hurt you right?? I cannot speak for the young folks
of our country myself but as a Father with two teenagers(boy and girl) it is quite obvious that teens moving into adulthood are attracted by all
the glitter and soft sell these muslims peddle to our UNAWARE youth and young adults on campuses across this country. This is further fostered by the left wing liberal teaching garbage that is now in control of our public schools from kindergarten all the up through college education. Peace, tolerance, a peaceful religion(thanks Pres. Bush!)Christians and Jews are wrong, if not evil.

Both our kids are being raised about the inherent damgers of ISLAM and that once you are trapped,it may cost you your life to escape. Muslim organizations on college campuses will scream of discrimination against them if the Jewish or Christian organizations schedule something at the same time or outright intimidate them altogether.
When that happens cair and the aclu will run to muslims rescue at the cost of everyone
else's freedoms. Coming soon.... a mosque on every campus. I do not think so! Speak and be vigilant. Death for true freedom or slavery under a cult washed in the blood of innocents around the world? Educate and arm yourselves with spiritual, physical and literal weapons. Mine have been loaded and ready for quite some time.

PatriotUSA-

I must say that I think you are being unfair including the ACLU. You may disagree when they defend Muslims but please remember for over twenty years they have spent MILLIONS of dollars to defend you and I against the Boys Scouts of America. Without faltering they have done everything in their power to crush and bankrupt that evil organization.

Someone quoted the Muslim Students Association --

From the 'Ten Misconceptions' page:

Islam is the name of a way of life which the Creator wants us to follow. We avoid the word religion because in many non-Islamic societies, there is a separation of "religion and state."

If Muslims avoid the word "religion", why can't we when we talk about Islam? If Islam is not a religion, then it doesn't have the protections of a religion!

I think the Jews at the University of Texas should share a Passover celebration as an interfaith outreach by the Jewish community, solidarity on the part of those who have become fascinated by the Jewish faith, and a curiosity about the spiritual act of Passover. Let’s see how many Muslims want to show up and participate. Any Jews in Texas awake? http://www.jewish-art.org/passover.html lets just see if these Islamists are for real. If they break bread as it were with Jews during Passover, then that would mean something.

With college students, the Ramadan observance is a peer-group fad. It's guaranteed to get approval from the sensitive girls (and possibly an angle with the bag-headed ones), will supply street cred with the cool professors, and will at least bemuse, if not piss off, your parents without a doubt.

Despite the MSA Allah-slaves' dreams, most (if not all) of these kids have about as much chance of reciting the Shahada as I had of passing a linear algebra course.

Idiots

DenverRodeo - Brilliant! I have read the Qur'an and feel that Islam is more of a political entity than a religion. And now Muslims are admitting it! Is anyone paying attention?

I wonder if they were able to talk about the wonderful interfaith relationship non-Muslims "enjoy" In Islamic states. I wonder if they had any "peaceful dialogue" over the Concept of an "Islamic State"

It would have been horribly xenophobic to bring this up. Possibly even Fatwa worthy.

"An Islamic state is essentially an ideological state, and is thus radically different from a national state." This statement made by Mawdudi lays the basic foundation for the political, economical, social, and religious system of all Islamic countries which impose the Islamic law. This ideological system intentionally discriminates between people according to their religious affiliations. Mawdudi, a prominent Pakistani Muslim scholar, summarizes the basic differences between Islamic and secular states as follows:

1 An Islamic state is ideological. People who reside in it are divided into Muslims, who believe in its ideology and non-Muslims who do not believe.

2 Responsibility for policy and administration of such a state "should rest primarily with those who believe in the Islamic ideology." Non-Muslims, therefore, cannot be asked to undertake or be entrusted with the responsibility of policymaking.

3 An Islamic state is bound to distinguish (i.e. discriminates) between Muslims and non-Muslims. However the Islamic law "Shari`a" guarantees to non-Muslims "certain specifically stated rights beyond which they are not permitted to meddle in the affairs of the state because they do not subscribe to its ideology." Once they embrace the Islamic faith, they "become equal participants in all matters concerning the state and the government."

The infidel could have had wonderful peaceful conversations at this nice little Ramadan affair if they weren't all sadly ignorant. Anyways read it all here.

http://www.answering-islam.org/NonMuslims/rights.htm

Does it never occur to these knuckleheads that interfaith dialogue or outreach or whatever it's called now, only ever goes in one direction?

I wonder how many gullible infidel participants in this fast are being groomed to convert?

I'm sure the brainwashed cultist zombies are plying these airheads with all the sweetest of Da'wa as taught by the MSA and CAIR.

The photo accompanying this article makes me want to puke.

You stupid 70 IQ "college" students.

I bet they will recite the shahada, though, even if this is a fad (as mentioned in an earlier comment).

This is more of the softening-up process -- as is all multiculturalism.

I think Mustafaa Carroll's comment must have been cut off. It probably read:

"They're not as uptight...about women not having rights and Jewish and homosexual people breathing, and once the conversions start in full, we intend to correct all that."

I need to "islamic relief" myself.. brechhh....

Oh I wanted to mention that Adolf Hitler used to say the following in some of his speeches:

"We may not have you. But we have your children."

Since the ACLU has been so diligent about rooting out the Boy Scouts where does American youth have to turn..?

"islamic relief" my ™ss.

so when Lent rolls around next year will the Muslim students as a sign of solidarity participate? During Passover will they participate in a seder?

I'm we are all people of the book aren't we?

poetcomic1:
Sorry, I LIKE AND SUPPORT the BSA, always have and always will. I have watched the aclu since I was much younger and observed how this "noble"
organization has continually tried to strip us of our freedoms and liberties. My Mom, who was very liberal and a big supporter of the aclu for many, many years finally turned against them in her later years. Why, their "stand" against things like the pledge of alligance etc (just one example). If you do not like it, you do not have to recite it, but be respectful to the rest of us. I have watched here, in Pacific Northwest where I live, the aclu constantly aligns itself and supports those "causes" of the far left to the extent that it becomes a loss for all of us.

You have your opinion and that is fine, as I have mine. The aclu and cair are equal in my book, and they are at the bottom of my list of bottom feeders that constantly try to erode what is so precious to many of us, FREEDOM and I have a big problem with organizations like that.

Oh bother. Come share an Orthodox Christian lent and then you might know what deprivation feels like.

PatriotUSA-
Whoa! Man you are IRONY proof. I was JOKING!

I might be reaching a bit here, but did anyone notice that the article above this one featured a teacher being fired for visiting a web site that is not supportive of Islam, and that this article shows students being actively recruited by Islamics in a school setting? Granted, one setting is in the UK, and I think elementary level; the other in the US at college level.

Sorry poetcomic1!
I live in an area of the country that is awash in liberal lies, failed policies, bias and bad politics from the left and the aclu runs amuck in this state.. I am in CENTRAL Oregon which used to be almost exclisively pretty conservative. The last few years has witnessed a swing to the left with the "peace and tolerance at all cost" crowd coming out of the woods, from under rocks, mushrooms you get the pictures. Oregon, the land of freaks, fairies, earth muffins and tree huggers and socialist public servants! Can make a person a bit grumpy. Thanks for commenting back. otherwise I would not have known. Be well!

You guys, I think you are worried for nothing. The brain surgeon in the yellow t-shirt has little more on his mind than how to get into the hijabbed-one's bed. And once he finds out that the fast includes a permanent commitment to stay away from alcohol, he won't even be thinking about that anymore either.

She on the other hand may never be heard from again once she gets back home, having been photographed with a male whom she is clearly not related to.

Well, it isnt all that bad. With all the fat folks, a little fasting isn't such a bad idea.

Fasting my ass!
As has been pointed out here on many occasions, it's only skipping lunch. Who among us has not done that? When I worked in the corporate world, I missed lunch any number of times, simply because I was too tied up in my work to even notice it was lunch time.

I agree with Isabella - the guy in the yellow t-shirt is just trying to get into the muslima's pants.

Last time I checked Facebook, there were some new ways to "Superpoke" your friends:

"Fast with"
"Read the Qu'ran with"
"Observe Ramadan with"

These are listed under the "Holiday" tab, with the crescent / star icon of Islam. That would be consistent with Ramadan being "all the rage" on campus.

I agree with Isabellathecrusader that the young man in the yellow shirt seems to be figuiring out what he needs to do to get into the young girl's panties.

Once the majority of students realize they will have to forego keg parties and BBQ ribs (not to mention DATING) most will have the sense to say sayonara to this crap.

Unfortunately, a guillible few, such as the singer formerly known as Cat Stevens, will fall into this malarkey and will be flushed into the toilet bowl of islam.

Once they try to digest the Koran, its violent intolerance will make these naive "yoots" puke.

Showing solidarity with minority moslems practicing fasting during ramadhan is dumb stupid.
Why? In Indonesia, where they are the majority, they behave violently against infidels who don't practice fasting in public. Attacks against restaurant open in daylight is common. They say "Respect us who are fasting!" in threatening tone.

On the other hand, ramadhan is more a month of party, because they tend to cook excessive and luxury foods for dinner. Government must be aware of national food stock on the advent of ramadhan.

Sharing fast and iftar? Before they know it, the non-Muslims will also be asked to share the "magic words" that make them Muslims!

Students, beware!

Did I read this right? There are Muslim groups operating in METHODIST colleges???

They're just kids and statistics indicate that even the most left wing college students eventually move to the right. Once they graduate and begin their careers, their priorities will drastically change, as will their environment and the people they associate with. A few might remain dedicated to left wing activism but most will not. Within ten years, their college days will be ancient history along with their radical ideas and causes.

People tend to become more selfish and realistic when they're paying their own bills and have families to take care of. Very few well- adjusted, normal American college students will convert to islam and throw away their lives. First of all, American youth is too selfish, spoiled, and materialistic to make the sacrifices required by islam. They're not going to give up their music, their beer, and their sex for muhammad and allah. Never happen. When they realize just how alien muslims are, their empathy will evaporate and they'll avoid them like the plague.
