DHAKA (AFP) - Ten men with links to an Islamic radical group have been arrested in western Bangladesh on suspicion of promoting militancy in the country, a policeman said Friday.
Police officer Abbdus Sattar told AFP the men were arrested late Thursday after they were found to be distributing Islamic extremist literature in the western city of Rajshahi.
"We arrested them on suspicion of encouraging militancy in the country and we are investigating their activities," he said.
"They were provoking unrest in the name of religion. They were encouraging people, in the name of Islam, to overthrow the government and establish khilafat here."
He said the men belonged to the Bangladeshi chapter of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a global group that wants to combine all Muslim countries in a unitary Islamic state or "khilafat."
Muslim-majority Bangladesh has been hit by a series of attacks by Islamic terror groups in recent years -- including 400 blasts on just one day in August 2005 by the banned Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
And this is odd - isn't Bangladesh already an Islamic country? Maybe they aren't as Muslim as they could be................
Fromm what I have heard, the Islamists think that the reason that Israelis arrived back in their homeland, that the west prospered, that Islam was subject to colonialism was not that they were backward Islamics, but that they had neglected the tenets of their religion, mainly Jihad looting and murder.
Does anyone wonder why despotic tyrannies fester like maggots in these regions? Yet when all other systems of governance are tried they seem to collapse quickly and violently. Could there be a certain “Cultural Dimension”? Anyone out there have an ideas?

Well, that's a surprise. Muslim's, in the name of Islam, a religion, encouraging people to overthrow the government and establish a caliphate. Have they been reading the holy books, or paying attention at the Friday mosque?.
Any government that doesn't pay close attention to Mohammad's holy warriors in their midst is, at some time, going to have to deal with this "overthrow" problem. And people are going to die in the process.
Already Bangladeesh has gone back a couple centuries since it was established. What is the need to bring on a khilafat u r already back in time. Where ever ISLAM the piggist religion of peace takes presidence the country is doomed to the times of mohammad. Allah is truely great "Allah hu akbar" he gives them poverty, depravation, lots of killings, babies(womb bombs) and the country is truely a part of kilafat.
I find it very ironic that the people wanting to unify Islam sow most of chaos within it.

has anyone looked to see how prosperous and peaceful the countries that have 100% Muslim population are?...
Islamic countries are marching towards reverse diversification...They neither want nor encourage other people from across the globe to bring new talent and skills to their Muslim controlled lands..
Muslims are interested only in Muslim dominance...most often distributed by the barrell of a warm gun or the swift stroke of the beheaders sword...
The only time Muslim governments arrest terrorists is when the terrorists pose a threat to those very same governments.
If these ten "terrorists" had been planning attacks in India or against Western targets, the government would have turned a blind eye.
The Saudis are Exhibit A. They promote unrest everywhere but clamp down on it at home. People are free to wage jihad anywhere BUT Saudi Arabia.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is STILL legal in the UK.
By doing nothing, the UK government and European governments - are actually helping them, indirectly funding them and apologizing for them.
The UK deserves to become an Islamic state - and IS becoming one.
